All of the LCS around my area will pay over spot for gold/silver eagles. I would call around.

Can confirm that Costco eagle tubes are the gold standard of eagle tubes.

Come with mint certified seal over tube, and an additional shrink wrap over tube and cap providing a product label. No way these come open randomly.

You can afford a damn tube of gold eagles? Or are you just saying it's the "gold standard" and you're actually talking about silver eagles?

Is anyone familiar with an outfit called US Money Reserve for selling and holding physical gold? Or does anyone have a recommendation for obtaining physical assets but not taking possession? I saw Sprott mentioned before. How do we know they are better than GLD? I've see the stuff out there about GLD.

Thanks

Silly question but why not take possession? What happens if you need it and can't get to it? The company goes out of business? It's stolen? The thought of owning precocious metals but not in my physical possession doesn't make sense to me. At that point you may as well just buy shares in a brokerage or something?

There are risks and headaches with possession too, such as having to store it securely and not having it forcibly taken from you. The risks of not having possession you mention are real too, but i don't want to start a discussion on the risks of one versus the other.

I would researcch the cost of them storing

Is it 1 percent of gold value per year if so it would be probably cheaper to have a safety deposit box
Mthe other thing I would worry about is transfer of inheritance because if government gets involved us money reserve maybe reportung transaction to the IRS

How do you know you really own a piece of gold

Lots of cons of not holding yourself

Good luck whatever you decide

1. Some bullion holders will happily take your $$$ to store but only promise to return the same amount of precious metal, not the items that made up your actual deposit.

There have been instances of people depositing American Eagles and getting back bars in the same number of oz. How frustrating would that be? You must understand this before depositing.

2. I would tour facilities before depositing anything. Ask a ton of questions.

3. I now firmly believe in the aphorism, "If you don't hold it, you don't own it."

Caveat emptor and good luck

As you may have read on this thread, I'm generally a proponent of ETFs for your precious metal portion of your portfolio, BUT, for my actual physical gold and silver, I keep it in a safe deposit box, for many of the reasons stated above.

  • It's cheaper (and likely a much more convenient location) than a purpose-built bullion storage facility
  • It may even be cheaper than buying a safe for home storage
  • It's much safer than a home safe, where a robber can forcibly remove it, or force you to do so
  • You ensure it's your metal that you retrieve, not some reasonable substitute (as noted by jagvocate above)

The main downsides are that you may have to go out of your way (compared to home storage) to deposit or withdraw holdings, and that silver is much heavier and space-consuming than gold (but a good workout when loading/unloading, if you want to look at the bright side). Gold in a safe deposit box is a no brainer. Silver, you make the call.

I've bought through Texas Metals in Shiner. I believe they offer storage options. I like they ship for free (baked into the price but still).

If a storage facility is your only option, then maybe…but I would try every other option first. I myself do not like safety deposit boxes but I would much rather do that and have access to it than it be in a storage facility where the "reassure me" they have my metals.

I do not like safety deposit boxes because I saw what the banking world went to during covid. My local big bank branch where I did most of my banking was closed for 3 months during covid. You had no access to safety deposit boxes. How is that legal? No idea. They sent everyone to the closest branch a town over for all banking needs. For that reason, I switched to a small town local bank where I still don't like the idea of safety deposit boxes, but I'm much more willing to use one with them.

The KEY to home storage is telling NOBODY you have precious metals/store them at your house. So many of the stories I've heard over the years at coin shows and whatnot of home theft ended up being family or friends that knew that person stored gold/silver.

Made the monthly DCA purchase of 20 silver...just random year sovereigns. It's all silver to me. Think I may go with a 1oz gold coin or bar next month. We'll have to see where the gold spot lands. I used SD Bullion for the first time. Not a bad experience on the purchase.
Received my order from SD Bullion today.
The shipping label was interesting.

I get it...did find it amusing.

(20) 2024 1oz Royal Arms

They are all brand new, even though I picked them up as a secondary market purchase. I was kind of hoping for a mix, but it was all the same coin. They are beautiful, minus the schmuck on the obverse.

Double Eagles slightly below spot price. This is almost certainly a pricing error so jump on it quick and hopefully they honor it!

I'm not .9675 ounces of gold in a double eagle. $90 above spot . Still a great deal in my opinion.

Well that was a quick wave down for silver today. Silver going down always seems to work in a straight line. Up and to the right is a mighty long staircase. It's still in an upward channel. I think the next wave up might be a doozy.

Hang in there stackers!

I wanted to. It's always nice to get in on those dips if/when you can. I've had to up my discipline a little bit and stick to my scheduled DCA strategy. Still doing pretty well.

I was at Costco last week waiting to get my El Tiempo gift cards from the front and there was an Indian family trying to buy five gold bars and the mom was on the phone with the bank because they wouldn't approve the transaction. I was doing work on a hotdog when they completed the purchase and casually strolled out the front with the young boy playing with the box for everyone to see. If I just bought five gold bars I would be a little less conspicuous.
