I'd say not a bad draft

MaxPower said:On trading Framber now vs the deadline, one advantage now is you can get big league guys. Use the Mets as an example. Maybe we get Megill back as part of the package to fill out our rotation. Well, in August he is likely a key part of their rotation and unavailable. Similar to the Tucker trade, no way you are getting Paredes in August as part of that package. Basically in August you are looking at prospects only.Chef Elko said:I think it's wise to see how the season plays out and wait for the trade deadline with FramberFarmer1906 said:Passan: Framber Valdez "a near-lock not to be moved."

Time to table all the Framber trade talk.

I don't believe it is conceivable the Astros could win the 2025 World Series without Framber.
I also don't believe the Astros are very likely to win the World Series anytime soon, but I think we can throw our best shot the rest of the Yordan, Altuve, Hunter Brown, Yanier, Pena, Bryan Abreu, Josh Hader window. Maybe we'll get hot and lucky at the end one of these years.
I believe trading Framber now would increase our chances in 2026+, but think we need to hold on to have any shot at all in 2025.
A rotation of Hunter Brown, Spencer Arrighetti, Tylor Megill, Hayden Wesneski, Ronel Blanco is not likely going to do well in consecutive playoff series.
Framber is the best of that group and him going twice in a series gives you a far better shot.
By a team that was out of contention to another team out of contention. No team out of contention is trading for 2 months of Framber.AggiEE said:MaxPower said:On trading Framber now vs the deadline, one advantage now is you can get big league guys. Huh? Peredes was traded to the Cubs at the deadline last year.

Sources: Josh Naylor has been mentioned in trade talks between the Guardians and Mariners. He’s one of multiple names under consideration by the Mariners for an offensive upgrade at 1B.@MLBNetwork @SeattleSports

Lots of could and maybes there but that's my point. You don't need the stars to align of someone else having exactly what you need at the big league level that they are willing to trade and that team happens to be in contention.
Sources telling @feinsand and me that the #Phillies and OF Max Kepler are working on a one-year deal, pending a physical. Kepler, 31, has spent entire 10-year career with the Twins.

Outfielder Max Kepler and the Philadlephia Philies are in agreement on a one-year, $10 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal, which is pending a physical, will give the Phillies a new corner outfielder in the 31-year-old Kepler. First on the scene: @Feinsand/@ToddZolecki.

It's 'likely' that Alex Bregman and Corbin Burnes won't sign until after Christmas, per @JeffPassan pic.twitter.com/vchZmy8PL0

No chance Bregman impacts us signing someone like Kepler. I think 10 M was more than we were willing to spend regardless.
What exactly do they think will change? They are the best hitter and pitcher respectively on the market. They think an owner is gonna hit the jackpot on the lotto tickets in their stocking stuffers?EastCoastAgNc said:It's 'likely' that Alex Bregman and Corbin Burnes won't sign until after Christmas, per @JeffPassan pic.twitter.com/vchZmy8PL0

What could the @Astros do after Nolan Arenado reportedly rejected a trade to Houston from St. Louis?

Yeah, Kepler ain't worth $10MM. $6.5-7 max

It is to Bregman and Burnes' benefit to wait and allow the teams to feel pressure.
You said "what do they think will change?"
They think the pressure and anxiety will build and compel teams to pay them the contracts they are looking for.
