A few ppl on twitter have said regarding that sequence that the shooter doesn't have the primary fastbreak/transition responsibility. Don't get me wrong, Westrbook rubs me the wrong way and definitely stays with his arm up like a chump for way too long but I'm just curious if there's any truth to that explanation.

Anyone more experienced than me in organized basketball care to chime in?

It's the whole team not just Westbrook. But he's as guilty as the next guy on plays where he finished the possession at the top of the arc. This highlights why it makes so much more sense for Leonard to guard him.

It depends how Donovan teaches his transition D, but there are two general rules that are taught. One is that the PG is always the first person back on defense. The second is that the highest person when the shot goes up is the first one back. Considering Russ is the PG and shoots the ball from the top of the 3 point arc, he falls under bother categories.

And, as has already been pointed out, even if his job is to hit the offensive boards, he doesn't do that either. Just stands there bricking a 3 with his hand in the air not crashing the glass or getting back on defense. He's guilty no matter how you slice it.

I'm not sure what Russ' responsibility is on transition D but I am gonna guess it's not to be first man back because he's a fantastic rebounding guard (obviously not in this instance).

Literally anything else would have been a better choice than standing at the top of the key with his hand in the air.

Everything about that play suggests that he was supposed to be the first or second one back on a fast break, but scheme doesn't really matter when you see a runner leak out without a trailing defender. You run him down no matter what your position is or where you are on the court. .. but especially if you're the deepest player, a point guard, the guy who was covering you is the one taking off, and you're just standing there watching your shot clank off the side of the rim anyway.

I take it you didn't learn anything about Karma and curses from the Hornets in 6 comment in the bracket challenge thread?

If the Thunder win game 2, this was the post that changed the series.

Texags karma curses are that strong.

End of season / round 1 consisted of (at times) our sloppiest play all season, but now we are starting to roll like 2014!

Happy (Green) learned how to putt.

Timmy was pushed in the back on the one layup, so we can excuse that. With that said, the rest of the close shots and layups are way the F off. We look tight and scared to start this game.
