Tomorrow night is a referendum on Aldridge. He has a history of no showing in big playoff games.
Is he a new man, and someone this franchise can build around? We'll know by this time tomorrow.
I can't quite decide how critical to be of Aldridge's game 5, and specifically down the stretch of that game, performance. His shot wasn't falling and that happens sometimes. Typically, I want a guy taking it to the rim and trying to draw fouls when he's cold from outside. He did that some earlier in the fourth, and then fell back into settling for midrange jumpers.
For most players, I would consider that as evidence of a passive, scared mindset. For Aldridge, the midrange game is so much his bread and butter and he's so good at it that I don't know that the same analysis applies. I would have liked to see him take it to the rim, and I would point out that in games one and two he was mixing inside and outside, but I don't know if I can fault a guy for taking midrange shots when that is his greatest asset.
I can say that it didn't look like Aldridge wanted the ball at all in the last minute or so. People have been critical of Pop/Tony for taking those shots down the stretch, but it looked to me that Tony only did it because no one else wanted it.
