We all know the rumor mill is garbage but the rumor is United upped their bid for FdJ from 60 mil + 20 mil in incentives to 65 mil + 20.

Barca wants 75 mil up front.

And if any of that is true it's just another sign that United are completely clueless.

Barca is broke and want to (really need to) move him for cash. Tell them the deadline is tomorrow and be willing to walk away. Thats the rub. We are never able to walk away from the table.

Should tell Barca to include Dest if they want $75M cash upfront.

I don't mind if they don't walk away from the table if they actually then pay the price.

It's really simple but for some reason they can't grasp this. Set a max price that you are willing to pay for a player that is based on the market, where the player fits in the market, your budget, etc. If Barca has set a price higher than that, then do a quick analysis to see if the gap is something you want to cover. If it is, pay it. If it's not, walk away.

It takes not that much time to make that decision. This effing around under the guise of "negotiation" is useless especially over 10 million EUR. Even if you "win" the negotiation in the end, it probably takes so long to do it that you actually lose.

Glazers paid themselves another nice divvy for a successful season.

United have supposedly upped the FdJ bid to 80 million EUR...not fully guaranteed but "attainable" add-ons. Which of course means this will drag on till August and we won't get him.

Eriksen is supposedly choosing between Brentford and United (God, that's depressing). If true (what happened to Spurs?) it will likely come down to living in London vs. Manchester and guaranteed time vs. sharing time with Bruno. And since neither club can offer him CL football, it's probably not looking too good for United unless ETH can turn on the charm offensive.

Fulham have offered 11 million GBP (inclusive of add-ons) for Andreas Pereira. It was looking like he was going to sign permanently in Brazil but that fell through when the club couldn't cough up the money. Would be nice to add a little money to the transfer kitty.

Read a report this morning that Barca apparently asked about throwing Maguire into the FDJ trade...which I personally would've loved, but we all know we'll have Maguire hung around our necks for at least a few more years

Reports of a "mammoth" training session at United today. It was over 2 hours long. OMG.

I'm not a massive Maguire fan but I'm sure Barca weren't pinning a high value on him and losing him without a replacement would just exacerbate our center back need even more.

Besides...can you imagine Harry on a night on in Barcelona? International incident waiting to happen.

Supposedly de Jong is in salary negotiations with United. But really who knows with this club.

And now it appears that United have agreed with Barca on the initial fee (65 million EUR) but still discussing the potential add-ons. In theory, the initial fee is the hardest part. We shall see.

Reports that United are trying to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. He was meant to sign with Lyon but United have come in late to get him. Presumably, he'd be a replacement for Telles and fight with Shaw for 1st choice LB.

What Dutch player have we not been rumored to sign? Looking forward to tomorrow's "United to sign Cruyff's Ghost to a 3 year contract" headline.

Gonna be a bad look if he chooses a contract with Lyon over United. Not an entirely surprising look but a bad look nonetheless.

I think I saw him play exactly 1 (one) game against Ajax and was impressed in a very "hey, he looks good and I don't really know what I'm talking about" sorta way. I have no idea if he will succeed at United but I do know that his profile is the type of player that United really need to target more and get right if they are going to make the slow climb towards progress. Young players playing in tier 2 leagues that may have been overlooked by the larger clubs.

Going after Lisandro Martinez from Ajax as well.

It appears that both de Jong and Malacia are imminent with only medicals left to be completed. Both players are still on holiday after playing with the Dutch national team but would join training a little before United's pre-season tour if everything is finalized.

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-united-de-jong-malacia-24348639

If it's confirmed, it will be an improvement on how recent transfer windows have gone even if you could claim it still took too long. But the MO has been to wait till mid-August so if these are both finalized in early July for reasonable sums (FdJ is rumored to be 65 million EUR and paid in installments) then...that's progress.

Both he and Anthony seem like bad choices. Not that they are bad players or would do badly...I mean they might do badly, I don't know. But more because Ajax has made it quite clear that they don't need to sell them and have slapped large price tags on them. And unlike United, they have a clear policy that they follow so the only way United gets either player is if they pay a large sum of money (Martinez valued at 45-50 million GBP and Anthony at 80 million GBP) or they the player hands in a formal transfer request and throws a big fit.

The latter doesn't seem likely to happen and the former means United spend way more than they have or want to. I know ETH wants to sign every Eredivisie/Ajax player he can but this seems like a bad choice.

Well it's being being reported that United put in a 40mm pound transfer bid for Martinez. So that's like 46mm euro.
Dre_00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, but I think I read somewhere that Ajax value him at 45 or 50 million GBP (so like 55 milllion EUR or so). Which they'll likely not budge on. Either way, it's a fair bit of coin and even more so when you figure that their entire transfer budget this offseason was supposed to be about 120 million. It's pretty much all gone if FdJ, Malacia, and Martinez come in. And I don't think selling the likes of Telles, Pereira, etc. is going to bring in much more to add back to the budget meaning those 3 players effectively ends your transfer season.

Sounds we have an agreement with Barca and are negotiating the personal terms with FdJ

Report here out of the NL is that Lisandro Martinez wants to play for United rather than Arsenal and that there will be "big developments" in the next 24-48 hours.

The nice thing about Martinez is that he's versatile. He can play as a center back or as a holding mid...though he has played mostly as the former for Ajax. But given that we are likely not going to sign a true holding mid this window, that versatility could be hugely valuable to at least give an option in that position beyond McTominay or Fred given that neither are really holding mids either (unless ETH manages to mold them into one).

Who had Malacia as the first signing on their United bingo card?
Dre_00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Malacia nearly done. FdJ less so but seemingly will be signed as well. My guess is Eriksen doesn't sign but that's just a hunch. Similarly, I'm guessing that Martinez does.

That would be 3 signings in areas of need. I believe ETH wants to get 5 players in this window. It's at least some progress.
