So what is the deal with Goodwin? He would be a great add in a position of need.

I mean, we have a lot of young OTs, but wouldn't mind having another solid option at that position.

We have IOL coming out of our butts.

Someone posted that he played in 12 games this year.

He's a two year starter for them.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of attention to the OL in the portal.

There is a IOL that we may sign that has a ton of experience at C but only if school is more important than playing.

Yeah, I just don't get continuing to (possibly) stack up on IOL when we have so few experienced options at OT.

With Grimes, we still need to add depth at CB.
I would rather recruit some of our guys in the portal than anyone else but don't know if that is an option.

Adarious Jones in the portal. He wasn't in 2 deep for DT on the depth chart, right?

ETA: I also wish we could pull some back from the portal.

So according to the national media our #1 recruiting class from last year is gone, or at least in shambles.

Here is the best I can come up with (feel free to fix any errors in the data). We will potentially lose close to 20% of the class (6 of 31), and 25% of the 5 stars (2 of 8). Losing a total of 6 players after their first year seems about normal due to either academics, character issues, transferring for various reasons, or giving up football for various reasons. Losing two five stars hurts, but recruiting eight softens the blow.

Looks like another -17 net-new adds from portal or 23 recruiting class. Is that correct? The portal LB's are moving quickly and Fisher was pursuing several including Goodlow, Grier, and Bentley. I'm assuming that the portal "commits" are non-binding until they submit the scholarship paperwork.

Not sure why you quoted that post but we only have 14 spots left with really only 2 or 3 positions of need with LB being the questionable one. We could add an experienced guy but it's not mandatory. CB/S is only needed because of NB. The other is WR but we aren't sure what exactly we need there. It could be a quality starter and depth or all depth.

The Agiye Hall portal entry from Texas will be an interesting phenomenon to watch. Not that he went to Texas, but that he is at this point a talented player with dependability issues. I predict he will be one that doesn't find a new home. He will be the poster child for the downside of the portal. The talented player that could have grown up in four years under the old model. Instead, he will be probably cast aside.

Added FSU high 4-Star (47th ranked player) out of 2022 class appeared that McCall is in a similar situation to some of our youngsters (MGK, Smoke) in that he couldn't crack the two deep.

While we didn't see it coming I am not surprised by this. If I recall he was one of those players that was rumored to be gone to the portal early on.

Updated for all the latest on targets.

One thing of note: There are LESS PLAYERS IN THE PORTAL than have reported entering the portal. In another thread earlier today that compared us an Arkansas, it shows "24" for Texas A&M. Including what I believe to be scholarship and non-scholarship players most sites are showing we have a total of 29 players in the portal. If you remove the non-scholarship players that leaves us at 26. I believe they must not be counting Donnell Harris (Medical) and Dallas Walker (not on roster). But, that is just a guess.

I really hope that we are trying to bring in JP Richardson from OSU. Vander may know more on that front but I really want him here at A&M for obvious reasons.

FYI Catalon is definitely in play for us.

We are after him but the thought is TCU is the leader.


We are actually after several WR. Also don't be surprised to see names commit that you never heard we were after.

Who or if we are seriously trying to grab one is not as obvious. I wouldn't mind one that can challenge to start because we only have 3 experienced and the other 3 are true freshman.

I kind of expect us to bring in some no-name receivers. Not that they aren't talented just that we haven't heard of them because they play in some smaller conference.

I'm also interested to see who TCU tries to bring in to the WR room. Earle is already coming and im sure there are others coming to FW. Idk how much production they are losing from their WR room but it could allow for us to have a little bit of a chance for JP.

I think we may land a big time receiver. My comment was more about how McCall commited out of the blue. His name wasn't on our radar and then boom. Apparently our interest isn't making it out to the general public which is a good thing.

Do we really have anything to offer those guys at Safety? I think that is one of our biggest strengths.

Matthews, Anderson and Kerr all looked really good.

Maybe if you are considering Anderson and Kerr more FS/DB?

Or do you think they look at a guy like Catalon maybe at a Weak LB?

I'm a little shocked by going after him as well. He would definitely start at safety but is he really needed. As for LB I have no idea. He's been injury prone his entire career.

Catalon would be a huge get. Someone cut a check please.
