I think corners on the roster now are Chappel, Deuce Harmon, Marquis Groves-Killebrew, and Bobby Taylor. Incoming freshman are Bravion Rogers 4* (7th best corner in class) and Jayvon Thomas 4* (11th Best Corner in class). It would be nice to add a Corner opposite of Chappel in the portal

I thought Smoke would have announced a while ago so not a shocker. How thin we are at DB now he would have played.

When Nick Williams announced his departure I knew that meant that Smoke would be following him.
At what point should we start hearing about portal commitments? If we can't get land some top CB and LB portal talent with our current depth, then I begin to think there is something systemically wrong with the program (propaganda or not).
Don't forget about Freshman Jarred Kerr. He got a good amount of playing time later in the season.

Jimbos tenure here is oddly starting to resemble that of Mack and his last few seasons at Texas. Recruits not panning out and the game seemingly passing by him. He's not adapting to the game, similar to complaints about Mack towards the end at Texas. Jimbo is either not evaluating talent well enough or not developing talent at efficient enough pace. Biggest difference is Mack won NC at Texas and competed for another before the game passed him. The game passed by Jimbo at another school and we gave him a bad contact after the fact.

You'll probably know in the next season or so. Elite coaches typically don't have 5-7 seasons, but some really great coaches have had some stinker seasons. Happened to Harbaugh, Gary Patterson, Dantonio, James Franklin, Mack, etc…if this season wasn't a massive wake up call to Jimbo, and you see the same dull offensive ideas, same misevaluations, and losses to teams beneath us (Miss St, Arkansas, SC) then you'll know it's passed him by and we're in a pickle.

I think he means perception to potential coaching candidates. It's a leading indicator of your program's health.

having difficulty hiring coordinators was also a troubling sign at the end of the Slocum and Sumlin eras as well

Sure wish we'd target some upperclass O line talent. Specifically, OT. We've got interior lineman coming out of our pores.
I think we are looking for the sure thing here. Not a super high priority considering the position we are in with the three other positions.

Well, the good news is, these kids probably aren't very good because they didn't get much playing time. Our coaching staff is VERY GOOD at playing the right players...as long as the wrong players that were starting in front of them get hurt.

Assuming we lose those three, and no other retirements/draft picks/transfers, that would put us at 53
We currently have 13 commits in the 2023 class, which puts us at 66

sips went 5-7 and didn't burb on the recruiting trail. I think the bigger issue is lost faith in Jimbo as a leader. Not playing CW most of the year certainly didn't help matters. If we can avoid injuries we could still have a decent year next year, but depth is going to be a huge issue. Context matters. Texas went 5-7 with a 1st year coach. Jimbo went 5-7 in his 5th year.
