I asked about the Tesla insurance in this thead just before getting mine and have been using it. It's a bit mis-leading or just super variable but here are my stats currently after nearly three weeks:

Safety Score: 99.8

Self-Driving: 96.3% on 964 of 1,001 miles.

I don't have to drive a ton as a B/CS resident but have made the trip back from the Tesla Giga Factory for pick up and also a round trip to Dallas and back the next day so that added most of the mileage thus far.

I looked the other day in the app at my projected premium after a 60 day window and it estimated me to go from $181/month down to $128 because of such near flawless saftey score and using FSD all the time.

However, when I got the insurance I put in that I'd drive in the 11,000-12,000 mile rang annually. Well, because of those extra trips things changed two days ago and it is currently estimating that I will drive around 17K miles this year and now it shows my insurance not this upcoming cycle but the next to be about the same $181.

So they are essentially penalizing me for pacing ahead of how far I'd drive over a 12 month span. We'll see how that adjusts.

Last little fun fact I can't remember if I mentioned. I didn't even know I bought a 2027 until about 10 days ago. I pulled that big piece of paper out of a drawer that shows total vehicle cost and specs and all that and it said 2027. I just assumed I was buying the latest 2026 version that was available through the app. I asked Grok in the car and it checked and said sure enough I own a 2027. Score.

Shopped around and found that my current provider (Farm Bureau) gave me the best rate.

I've read about the Tesla insurance and how the mileage can impact the cost. Not sure what our miles will be as I think my wife and I will be mainly using the Tesla and leaving the other cars at home. So the mileage may be more, hence driving up the cost.

This is a huge difference.

Getting ready to place an order for Model 3 Performance....really torn on the color. I'm leaning toward Quicksilver or the Frost Blue....wifey has quicksilver on her model y though and would like a little variety.

I haven't really seen frost blue much in the wild, any thoughts?

Planning on holding this until my 10 year old drives and this will be her first car.

I like the frost blue. I got my M3P in white before quicksilver was available or I'd have gone with that. Now I think I'd do frost blue.

Frost Blue for me too. I would get it if it was available on the version I ordered. It is definitely more rare. I haven't seen one in the streets yet.

Frost Blue has only been around for less than a year and is only available on Performance models. If you want unique it's the way to go.

I bought Quicksilver with White interior for my car and my parents car when they bought a Model Y.

I had a rather hilarious/embarrassing couple of moments yesterday depending on your maturity level (mine is quite low).

A client of mine that I saw the other day asked me if I've changed the alert sound that signals the car has locked when you walk away. I didn't know that was an option. So Tuesday night I had Grok pull up the screen for the options and it was defaulted to "Fart".

I think to myself that's perfect just for a test and walk away inside my house and laughed.

Yesterday morning I go to meet a family of five for the first time that are prospective clients. As I'm getting out and walking away the car rips a big one. The people I was meeting were in two cars and were all about a foot out their car doors but I don't think they heard it but internally I was dying.

Then I went to another local establishment and had the car in FSD in a full parking lot and it parked right next to this older guy about to get on his motorcycle. He seemed a bit off but friendly and when I got out of the car he asked me enthusiastically "Hey, how are you doing?!".

I replied great thanks! How is your day going and I continued walking not even thinking about the previous encounter and the car ripped ass again, this time about a foot and a half away from the guy. I kept on walking just about to cry from laughing unintentionally.

I am going to change the setting tomorrow morning but my gosh this car is so fun.

I haven't seen that one in the wild nor did I realize it was a color option but I just searched it and think it looks killer in the photos. I might have even gone with that over the marine blue I got (which I still love) if I had the choice but alas it's not for the Y.

Best color in the lineup IMO. When I'm ready to refresh my Model S, I may wrap it in that color. It's sucks so hard they killed the S

My wife charges only at night and my schedule is much more chaotic and so I will be able to throw it on the charger whenever she isn't using it. There may be some times where I have to run to a supercharger when heading to a job, but her day generally doesn't use more than 25% charge so I don't see it being much of an issue outside of the occasional vehicle shuffle. Our charger is located so that it can reach two different vehicles when they are parked next to each other as well, so that solves a lot of the issues.

We are planning on doing that at my house. We are setting up our Tesla wall charger in a spot where it can reach both cars in our garage. My total commute is 90 miles a week so I will probably just charge to 70 or 80 twice a week unless we are going out of town and we will do the same on the other vehicle.

J/k. I put my charger in the middle in the hopes that she'll get a Tesla one day. She has to travel for work a lot more than I do. It would be perfect for her. FSD would change her life.

Sam's here, my wife will not use it, I'm about to stop paying for the subscription, just pay when we do long trips. I don't understand but she just refuses to use it.

It makes no sense. She HATES driving at night. Hates it. No matter how many times I tell her to use FSD she just won't, but that doesn't mean I don't get to hear about how much she hates it lol.

She also already wants to steal the new MY and I quickly disabused her of ok that notion because the reason I bought it was for HW4 FSD and since she has no interest in that, she doesn't get to drive it.

Picked up my Model Y this afternoon and I'm loving this car. FSD is a game changer as y'all well know.

My wife was afraid of it until our trip to Colorado last year where the car drove probably 95% of the 2200 miles we drove that week. Part way up there she told me to let the car drive because it's a better driver than I am.

Still she was uncomfortable using it until this spring when she met me in La Grange for the overnight stay during MS150. I asked her to bring the Tesla so we could use my bike rack and the plugged in cooler under the floor. She wasn't happy but did it. I taught her how to use FSD and she tried it after she got out of town and was hooked. Since then she's used it two times when we had both cars somewhere and she was concerned about having had too much to drink. She was at that "probably fine" stage but we knew I was good so we switched and she was grateful to have it.

Ours drove us to Missouri and back. Doesn't matter.

Any thoughts on model Y premium vs performance? A loaded premium is very close in price to a performance.

I would get the premium. The performance has a stiffer suspension and less range. You can go super quick, which is fun, but I would rather have the softer ride and better range. It's still going to be stupid quick.

Oh, maybe the newer ones do. The older ones definitely just had a much stiffer, sporty suspension. A lot of people removed it to get a softer suspension.

Definitely got 3% cash back when I bought the new whip with my X card. Now I'll get a loan from my credit union at 3.49% for 36 months and put that money back in my X money account and earn 6% while I pay it off.

I got the Y L but if we get another one down the road it will likely be the Model Y Premium AWD. If you get the smaller wheels (huge range difference so smaller is better) and light interior it is 51 to 53k depending on your color.

For me I'd probably get the blue and spend 52k over spending 58k on the performance, but if that 6k doesn't mean much to you then definitely get the performance and go frost blue while you are at it.

We had a performance with our 22 then went premium with our 26. The performance chewed through tires (also couldn't be rotated because of different sizes between front and rear), was uncomfortable ride wise, and noisier.
