Tesla finally announced the Model Y L today. I have a family of 6, so may eventually be interested in this one.

Has anyone on here tinted the glass roof? I've had my side windows tinted from the start and recently had the windshield tinted with 70% ceramic and it's made a huge difference. I have a sun shade on the roof now that really helps vs without but I was thinking about taking that off and just tinting it.

This is more for when I'm in the car vs parked. I live in Colorado and the sun can be brutal even when it's not hot out.

I bought a Model S earlier this year and had all windows tinted, sides, rear and windshield. I asked about doing the roof and the guy at the shop told me it is already tinted and some have cracked that had added tint on the roof. Don't know if that is true but l left it as is.

My Model S should be coming in this week. Mind if I ask what that ran you?

It would be interesting to know how much improvement in range, comfort, etc. Teslas would have with no sunroof or just a normal size one. It's so aggravating you have to accept something you don't want on most higher end vehicles

I really wish those weren't so ugly. I can't talk my wife into even looking at one for her work commute.

I have our MX and MY tinted throughout. Helps but still warm in the texas heat. I put in shades on both cars with the thought on keeping the shades only during the hottest 4 months. Either lazy or just doesn't matter to me and kept the shades on.

Tinting the roof on both cars are expensive. Do it if you plan on not having shades. If you leave shades on, save the money.

The Model YL is going to be a hit. I would trade in my MY for the YL if Tsla allowed me to transfer my FSD. Would be great if they allow it in the next 2-3 yrs with the HW5 upgrade.

Looks is so subjective because I really like the look and minimialist interior.

I believe the tinting and ceramic coating was $1,200. Euroluxe in Tomball, did a good job.

Well guess I'm joining the club ordered the YL will be a couple of months or more. Only question was whether to get the 19inch wheels or 20? Thinking 19 makes more sense for Texas roads and better range and ride. My wife loved the Y and the YL should be an ideal size for our family
Medaggie

I always get the 19 just for better range. Other than looks, I see little advantage to 20 inch wheels.

Yesterday I drove to SA and back in my Model Y and most of the ride home I was on my phone doing something other than paying attention. For a small part of the drive I actually had my laptop with my phone hotspotted and working. It's the first time I completely checked out and the car didn't gripe and me to pay attention. Thought that was interesting. I don't recall them announcing the driver no longer has to be actively pretending to watch the road.

Soon to be new Tesla owner…for those in Texas any recommendations on insurance? I know they have an option but seems expensive. I generally max out my limits for liability plus have an umbrella on top of that. Thanks

Not an expert/endorsement but I saw something that their 'non-long range' (or rather cheaper) models are and have been getting the better/newer LFP chemistry CATL batteries (which hold up better long term for value) vs. the top end models. Again, I am not asserting this as true just found it interesting for those looking at buying/leasing these.

If HW3 with FSD 14 is 90% as good as HW4 that would make a very compelling case for a used tesla. They are so cheap.

I got v14 Lite last night. About to commute across Houston on it.

Yeah, for sure. My parents got a 2026 Y with HW4 and love it. I still have my 2018 M3P and plan to just run it into the ground, but would get a used Y if something happened to this.

But HW3 cars are stupid cheap and a really great value, especially when gas is so expensive.

33mi drive

Mostly in 60mph zone.

Chill wanted to be at 67. Standard at 72. Fast at 75-77.

Two phantom brakes for no reason but both were minor. No overpass

Two nags. One for no reason, the other for looking at my phone.

The right steering wheel control does not change max speed anymore, it only adjust the profile whether going up and down or left and right.
dallasattnyag

what do you consider phantom breaking? Like a small tap on the brake or something bigger that is really jarring
?
Guitarsoup
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It didn't slow it down much, but it was jarring and had no feasible reason. I was on chill for both and not near anyone else

FSD mode were you using? I've heard chill doesn't nag as much as Mad max.

Skeptical or will resolve it, but worth a shot. I've seen a couple of posts suggesting recalibration.

I didnt expect to see this, but if we have any engineers here with manufacturing experience, Im tasked with hiring some engineers for a new plant in brookshire (an hour south of CS). We dont make the cars (but we do use model Y parts).

Anyhow, if anyone have 5 or more years of experience in manufacturing and wants to work for Tesla, my email is my user name @gmail.

I will reply to any serious inquiried with my Tesla email and make sure you bypass the AI filters if you are a fit.

Im not a recruiter by the way, Im an engineer, this is just one fo my side tasks, and I take it seriously, and I want as many aggies and as few california transplants as possible.

If any engineers want to apply to work for Tesla, we need engineers in Brookshire Texas.

Shameless I know, but I want fewer california transpants and more aggies.

My gmail is my forum name @ gmail. Ill reply to serious replies with my company email.

Need people with manufaturing experience. If you like the model y or hate it, we have some of the guts here, but we do not do automotive.

Didn't read all the thread but a brief scenario question:
I drive from Galveston to San Antonio to relatives house. How/where do I charge the car for drive home?
hph6203
How long do you want to ignore this user?
This tool will give you an idea. When you own the car you put in your destination and it will route you to chargers. Typically if I'm doing a round trip to a place without chargers I'll put in the destination and return to make sure it's going to hit the correct chargers. With San Antonio/Galveston as the end points you don't really need to worry much about arriving with enough energy to get back to another charger.

There are like 20 superchargers between Galveston and San Antonio. So take your pick.

Maybe stop at Bucees in Katy or Bucees in Luling. When you put in your destination in the car, it will tell you when and where you need to stop and how long you will need to charge.

Supercharging at Bucees usually takes about the same as a typical Bucees stop.

On roadtrips I'll normally edit the trip to have a high enough "arrival energy" to know that it can sit for a couple days and still get out of town to a charger. You can adjust that setting in the car once you plan your route.

TSLA-related cybertruck supplier lawsuit.

Somebody decided to crash into my car the other day so I am in a rental car while it is getting fixed.

Holy crap is it awful to go back to a non-Tesla.

I have to push a button to unlock the car.
I have to push a button to start the car. Then I have to remember to push the button to turn the car off.
I have to push a button to open my garage and close my garage.
I have to actually steer.
I have to remember that I need to use the brake pedal.
