I would imagine he is getting some strong guidance from the analytics team, but it just seems odd to go with Diaz when we have guys like Vasquez or Dubon available too. My only guess is that Alvarez has some sort or lingering injury so that's why they don't have him in the OF. Hensley had a hit last night and I think the only DH hit since the ALDS.
you don't use your second catcher vasquez as DH.

That's something I've wondered, about a number of decisions, but haven't really paid enough attention this year to know what people are saying about that. Dusty does seem a little more hands off/CEO/motivator type.
Last night I was thinking about Scrap Iron standing there with his scratch paper, bringing in one pitcher to get one batter out, trying to cobble something together. This is obviously a different era and different style of management.
At what point do we hit for Diaz in those situations.
