Yeah, he would probably get raked over the coals if he was the cowboys QB. I think Herbert is leagues better than Dak, but you absolutely cannot lose that game. I expect this to be the first time Herbert takes some of the blame.

Why do you think this? And what does "leagues better" mean? A lot better?

Daks career passer rating is higher, BTW.
I'm generally a fan of Prescott. I think he is an above average quarterback that is capable of leading the Cowboys to a Super Bowl. He is not perfect, but I think you can win with him.

In regards to Herbert vs Dak. This is a great, and very interesting comparison of two very different (but both effective) quarterbacks.

I went to last years Cowboys-Chargers game in Los Angeles. I got to watch Herbert and Dak compete in a very close game that came down to the last play of the game.

Justin Herbert is without a doubt a 5 star football talent. Dak would be a 4 star in terms of strictly talent. Herbert was making throws that were incredible to watch in person. He was making a bunch of throws that Dak could not make.
I'm not sure if the TV really gives the viewers the perspective of how far and long Herbert can throw a football at a very high velocity.

So that means Herbert is "Worlds" better than Dak...right? Not quite.

You can have all the arm strength and talent in the world, but if the other quarterback is a better decision maker, better leader, and better clutch player then which quarterback do you really want?
There is no wrong answer.....its a matter of personal preference.

Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning are more talented than Tom Brady, but he counters that with all the intangibles.

That's how I see Dak vs Herbert. For all the arm talent that Herbert had, he still made a bunch of mistakes in the red zone.
He was only able to lead the Chargers to 17 points against the Cowboys.
Dak made the clutch throws and the clutch plays. He led his team to a tough road victory.

I think Cincinnati and Buffalo can as well because of how they can sling the ball around and what weapons they have. The 49ers defense is much more average to below average in the secondary/pass coverage. They are built to stop the run, rush the passer and tackle, not cover in space. The issue is that you have got to give your QB some time.

I agree with your overall point and it really is just a matter of preference for some. I think you discredit Tom Brady a bit, because I view Payton Manning as the precise decision maker without all the physical tools (he is 6'5" though) and Tom as the more traditional big, tall, strong armed QB.

If I had to come up with a reference for it, I would say Payton Manning likely never topped out more than 94 mph and was throwing "80 poo" by the end of his career, whereas Tom in his prime could throw ~98+ mph cheese and is now probably about 93-94. Good post though.

Dak feasts on bad teams.
I think that Dak Prescott is an above average quarterback that is capable of leading the Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

I've always felt that Prescott was better than Tony Romo, but he has to win in the post season to validate that assertion.
I lost faith in Tony Romo after he blew the 2012 Washington game (and the playoffs) with that late interception.
Romo had a pretty average game against the Redskins in that game for the NFC East crown.

That was Romo's 6th year as a starter. At that point in his career he was 1-3 in the post season.
Dak is at the exact same point in his career. Six years in, and also 1-3 in the playoffs.
The Cowboys have to win tomorrow (or lose scoring 35 plus points) for me to continue to believe in Dak.

Here are Dak's positives and negatives.

Pros:
-A true franchise quarterback. Any team with Dak leading it is always going to be competitive.
-No losing seasons as Cowboys QB (13-3, 9-7, 10-6, 2-3, 12-5, 12-5)
-The last 5 games not withstanding he usually is a very good decision maker with the football
-Has led the #1 offense in the NFL (2021)
-I don't have time to look up the stats, but the Cowboys have scored a ton of points the last two seasons when he starts
-Good on 3rd down
-Clutch, Has led a high amount of 4th quarter comebacks
-Pretty good on his feet as a runner. Especially before the 2020 injury.
-Has dominated the NFC East

Negatives:
-Average arm talent. In terms of arm talent he probably ranks between 12-20 in the NFL. There is a reason he was a 4th round draft pick

-Needs high level pieces around him to win. I don't really consider this a negative. This is true for 95% of all quarterbacks.
Its only the Brady's, Rodgers and Manning's of the world that can consistently win 11-13 games a season with average talent. Dak can win 8-10 games a year with average talent....which is pretty good.

-The last few years he has rarely beaten the elite quarterbacks or teams
-2022 decision making has been below average. Way too many interceptions

I agree.

There is no question Herbert passes the eyeball test. Probably more so than any QB in the league. As a passer, he's prob what you would draw up in a lab.

I like him a lot. However, he does have a tendency to make poor decisions and doesn't quite have the clutch gene, yet. That could change.

Yeah....Im not sure if that was the best comparison. I've always been a Brady guy. I remember when Manning vs Brady was a serious debate.

Manning backers always pulled out the stats. Brady backers always countered with the intangibles. Brady had less offensive talent and played outdoors in the cold, as opposed to indoors in Indy.

Both have tremendous arm talent and accuracy....but Manning is on a whole different level. There are only about 4-5 quarterbacks in the history of the game that can throw a ball like Peyton Manning.....and Brady aint one of them.

I'm guessing Justin Herbert is 6-6 and 245.
That God given size and strength is something that Dak will never have. That additional size that Herbert has translates into superior arm strength and velocity on the throws.
I'm still not sure if Herbert has the ability to be clutch. Or to command his team to victory when things are not going their way.
It is certainly easy to say that after last nights choke against the Jaguars.

The offense that scored 3 points in 2H gets plenty of blame also.

It's a team loss. Up 27 -0 they threw the ball 27 and ran it 8. (Can't remember the exact numbers but those are close).

They went Sumlin UCLA in the 2nd half. I would be ****-canning the coach today. He's one of those guys who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room when in reality it couldn't be further from the truth.

Bosa also completely imploded and cost his team big time with that unsportsmanlike penalty. Not sure how that clown is a team captain if this is how he carries himself.

Way over the top but the tackle false started and he was held.

Yeah I mean I don't blame him for being upset but you gotta keep your composure. Would love to know what he said to the ref.

The helmet was plenty reason enough by itself per the rulebook. Dumbass move

Bosa should have had his temper tantrum on his sideline.

Doing it on the field and getting the penalty cost his team the game. Typical Chargers.

I saw a replay of him getting a flag for talking to the official and saw him slamming his helmet. We're they the same penalty?

NY up on MN... damn Vikings are going to blow this game and send us to SF on a short week (assuming we don't also wet the bed against a sub .500 playoff team).

I'd rather play in San Francisco, barring the weather. We play terrible in the cold for the most part, and the Eagles have considerably better home field advantage.

Not scared of the Eagles at all. Would rather take on the Eagles first, SF in NFC if it came to that.*

Much rather play the Eagles (a team we're familiar with) than SF. Hurts is not 100% and they've not been very good the last few weeks.

Josh Allen had three turnovers today and almost single handedly gave the Dolphins the game.

Turns out really good QBs can do that. Huh.

He also threw some absolute bombs, passed for 352, and drove his team down to get a critical three points with under a minute before the half. Not a perfect day by any means, but he was still really damn good.
