Ohio state also loaded him up his last 2 years. So 6 straight years of very heavy work, inconsistent dedication to taking care of his body, and a physical running style. Perfect storm for a quick falloff

Moore is Jerry's new Jason Garrett.
My thoughts, exactly. Would be a big blessing if someone hired Moore, but I doubt we'll get such a blessing.

Kellen Moore just got fired.

The Cowboys are not far off from the very top of the NFL if they can nail their draft.

They need to improve at CB, LB, WR, TB and DE.

Never thought Moore was really a part of the problem.

Zeke got paid and decided to coast, getting paid $14,000 per rushing yard.

Dak keeps throwing the ball to the other team (terrible decision making, not play calling)

I don't think he ever understood that he needed to run the hell outta the ball with Dak at QB. The more you have Dak throw the more he's going to turn it over.

Well someone had to go and it certainly wasn't going to be Dak.

Maybe Tony Romo needs to be named GM....

Dak has to be better but if you follow some of the film nerds online, Moore didn't do a whole lot to make the offense more QB friendly for Dak.

Scheme and route combos were very iffy.

So Kliff or Leftwich?

Good question. I haven't looked closely at who all is available. Frankly, I've never been particularly impressed w Kliff from a scheme standpoint.

DMN saying McCarthy will call plays.

Looking like McCarthy will call plays. I suspect he will have an "OC" for meetings and game planning.

Agree. Someone will get named OC and Schottenheimer is a good guess

I will say, Moore and Nussmier being gone is the last of the Garrett era. Dak is def going to get some new messengers. I think this will be a good thing.

If Moore was such a problem to McCarthy, why didn't he override his play calls? If he did override them several times, then this is not much of a change.

Seems obvious that McCarthy said he was going to start calling plays and Moore didn't want to go along with that. It might be better but I have my doubts.

Meanwhile, Dallas seems to be ignoring the fact that Dak is still Jekyll and Hyde. After all these years as a starter does anyone feel confident in him driving the field to win a game? You can get a different mediocre QB for a lot cheaper than Dak.

He's been jekyl and hyde with 1 OC. That's precisely why it's time to change it up

You should add "to win a playoff game or to go to the Super Bowl" because that would probably be a no for most of us. Either way, he's your QB next year so why not change it up after his worse season by far. If he continues to turn the ball over, you go into his last contract year knowing you won't resign him and go extremely hard at the draft. You could probably draft a QB this year too.

I don't disagree but my point is whether you can trust him to do it consistently. Can you honestly say that you'd trust him like a Mahomes or even Burrow? He shows flashes of being great but can't seem to sustain it. Great players show up big in big games, and after six seasons as a starter I don't think he's great yet. Will he ever be? Maybe.

Mahomes and Burrow are the two best QBs in the game. No one has ever said Dak is that.

Dak is damn sure better than two of the other QBs that were in the final 4 though.

Burrow sure showed up yesterday with the game on the line. That game winning drive he had yesterday was a thing of beauty.

That 70 passer rating he had in the game yesterday and those two interceptions can't certainly ever be replicated by Dak Prescott.

Im glad Kellen Moore is gone. The network broadcast always made him out to be some sort of offensive savant.....and I just didn't see it.

The 49ers have totally shut down this offense in two consecutive playoff games. Its time for a new voice.

is he really better than Hurts? passing ability wise and "at his best" sure, but you have to include decision making, don't you?

personally, i'd take Dak. But also can see why some would not.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, he is. Everyone needs to remember that Dak had one of the lowest INT rates in the league before this year.

This year, per Peter King, had 7 INTs that hit receivers in the hands and his WRs have the lowest separation rate in the league. Dead last. Also, he broke his thumb this year. Go look at his career stats and you will see that this year is an outlier.

I think Dak did try to force some things this year but I think it's a bit strong to say he is a bad decision maker.
BMX Bandit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i don't think he is a bad decision maker over all, but you cannot dispute he has a knack for making terrible decisions at really inopportune times.
Macarthur
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Note, how many throws Hurts makes with receivers running wide open. Outside of maybe KC & SF, he plays in a system that is schemed very well to his strengths. It also helps to have two first round WRs and an outstanding TE to go with one of the top 2 or 3 OLs in the league. Hurts, without question, plays with the best roster in football.

If you are talking a bout this year, yeah, he had some tough moments. I think the reasons discussed above contributed quite a bit to that.

I would encourage everyone to go back and look at Dak's playoff numbers. I would be willing to bet his numbers are better than you thought they were. And compare them to some other top 10ish QBs. I would be willing to bet he's been better than you remember.

Hurts does play on perhaps the best roster in the NFL, but I would take Hurts over Dak going into next year. A ton of the Eagle's success is predicated on Hurts running the ball and throwing it deep. He is an elite runner and throws a tremendous deep ball, and it's glaringly obvious that he's still batting his shoulder injury. I do think Dak throwing a ton of picks is out of the norm for him, but he does make some very questionable throws in key situations, and he has throughout his career.

I would also take Hurts for the primary reason of his work ethic and preparation. My understanding is he prepares almost as well as Brady. Does all the things Brady does in the off-season etc to be physically and mentally ready to be his best.

So many talented QBs could do so much more if they did this but very few do. I assume Dak doesn't bc of his inconsistent play and mental mistakes.

How many NFL quarterbacks do you hang out with in the off season?
Do you train with a number of pro athletes?

What would give you the arrogance to state something like the bolded?

I mean damn.....you make it sound like anyone and their mom can go 12-5 in the NFL in consecutive seasons.

12-5 is pretty F"N good yall. The Cowboys beat 2 of the 4 teams playing yesterday. They are not that far off from the ultimate prize if they can nail their draft.

I think it's kinda silly to say Dak doesn't prepare well enough. The guy is clearly one of the top 10 best QBs in the league, and he was a 4th round pick. Everywhere he's been raves about his character.

This is one of the problems with being a fan of a the Cowboys. We have a tendency (all fans do) to over analyze our guys.
