Is Trevor Knight available?
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

I honestly would have taken AB in a heartbeat prior to Dak getting hurt.

Still can't believe Jerry didn't do something about the WR situation. Ceedee Lamb is not a #1 WR, just a complimentary guy.

Ceedee is better than a complimentary receiver, but he does need to get his head screwed on straight. Quit going through the motions out there.

The only thing I can think of is that they know Gallup and Washington are coming back so if they could get by for a couple of games until they get back, they would be okay.

That clearly was the wrong gamble but I bet that's what they were thinking.

I agree that the front office believed and believes Gallup and Washington are going to be back sooner than later. On paper, I can't disagree with them either. Ceedee is a very talented kid who just needs to get his head right. Gallup has been absolutely fantastic (imo) when he's been on the field, and Washington is a decently talented guy who was buried in Pittsburg. Those three in your top four wide receivers make up a solid group...but two of them aren't there. The first week was not a good week for the group, but I want to see them against a more middle-of-the-road defense. Tampa might dang well be the best defense in the league.

disagree that ceedee is not a #1. if we still had cooper out there he absolutely would be. he was bracketed all night long against tampa because the rest of the WRs are practice squad caliber guys.

Jerry said Dak is not going on the IR and he believes that he can be back in 4 games. Not sure I buy that.

I dont believe a single thing Jerry says, on any subject, at this point.

its going to be rough watching all the games this season, with no real expectation of success

I'm beginning to actually believe the tank job this season was on the moment Payton stepped down in New Orleans. There's no way the front office thought this wr corps was going to be serviceable with the first games of the 2018 season still fresh in everyone's mind.

Why does tanking make sense if you presumably have to give up one of those really nice picks for Payton?

I'm a HUGE fan of Dak as a player, a person, and a rep of the team but he is wildly overpaid. I am not a fan of Zeke at all and he is wildly overpaid.

If those two were not taking up so much $$$ the overall team could be much better.

But none of that matters, with the worst GM in the NFL continuing his reign of ineptitude, nothing will change.

That piss-poor OL got the overpaid QB injured game 1. Dak was not great but was under constant duress and they couldn't run the ball well enough to slow it down. On the injury Dak's throwing hand got hit hard twice as he was following through in the same series, I actually think it was the second one that injured him.

The defense is average to good which is a starting point.

Until the Cowboys have a real GM and Jerry does not meddle in personnel decisions they will continue to suck. He is so desperate to prove he is a football guy when it is painfully obvious he is not and he will die knowing that all the credit for those Super Bowl Ws goes to Jimmy. Then his idiot son will take over and we'll see if he is smart enough to get a GM and stay out of it for the most part.

I would like to preface this by saying when I mean Jerry, I mean Jerry and the entire front office, because they also do a significant amount of work that goes into team decisions. But I don't think Jerry is the worst in the league. In fact I think he is quite good at drafting players. The issue for Jerry has been and and always will be, being too loyal to coaches and players. Jerry overpaid Dak, Zeke, Amari Cooper, maybe D Law (even though I really like him overall) Collins, and many more that I can't think of. The reason we didn't get anything in return for Amari or Collins, they are and were massively overpaid for what they are in the league. No body wanted to pay Amari 20 million a year. Jerry and the front office has got to start being okay with letting players walk.

dak is the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL. i don't think that's all that outrageous. zeke's deal is an embarrassment.

That's what I keep going back to. Gonna really suck if we have a top 10 pick and then ship it to NO.

And someone made a good point the other day... why would we trade draft picks for Payton, we already have one of those (one of those meaning a coach that had a lot of wins and 1 super bowl while having one of the greatest QBs of all time at his disposal).

I guess Payton is more respected around the league while McCarthy, perhaps unfairly, is seen as a fat sloth who was carried by Rodgers.

Glad someone else said this first. I think Payton is a great coach, but you really want to go forward with someone who is retired after a long and successful career? Find someone young with a crazy work ethic, a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.

Jerry is going to go all in on Payton so that he can say he got his man. There is no way this team should give up high end picks for him.

If we have a top five pick and decide to trade it for Sean Payton instead of drafting CJ Stroud (my personal favorite and dream), Bryce Young, Will Anderson, Jalen Carter, or Jaxson Smith-Njigba I would quit this team on the spot.

That puts him in the top 25%. There are not just 7 NFL QBs better than Dak, there are at least 10-12, he is overpaid. I get it, he is good enough, and in a QB driven league you either have a QB or you don't, but Dak was not worth the $$.

Strategic long term planning is not a strong suit of Jerry.

and when lamar jackson, burrow, tua, herbert, and hurts re-up this offseason he'll move down into that ~12 range.

QBs are rarely ever 'worth' what the market says you have to pay them. Where they screwed up was waiting to pay him. Could have had him for around $30m but they waited and it cost them $40m.

And ultimately the market is what it says it is.

The Dak contract should not cause anyone heartburn. The zeke contract was the giant turd.

The more I think about it, the more I just want them to blow the team up. Trade everyone. Get all the picks. Clear all the cap space. Start over.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't know if I am on board with blowing the WHOLE team up, as I like Micah Parsons, Diggs, and a lot of our defense. But on offense I find you opinion a lot more appealing. The other issue is that outside of Zach Martin and maybe a healthy Dak going to a bottom feeder team, I don't know what type of value/return you would get for anyone.

Hey , don't worry, Jerry says Dak will only miss 3 games now….oh wait, maybe he'll suit up Sunday?

Who else here would like a new QB, honestly? I know I would, but I am curious to see where others stand. I think Dak isn't very mobile anymore, isn't all that accurate, has a very average arm, and now is oft injured.

I don't disagree with anything you said, I just feel like Dak is the least of the evils. If you are going to get a new QB and still have fantasies that Tyron will be healthy, trot out UDFA at WR, let Kellen be the OC and think Zeke is still an all pro then that QB won't be successful anyway.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Oh, no doubt! If we were going after a new QB we would be full on rebuilding the offense. Tyron Smith would be out, and probably a whole host of others because areas like the line and receiving group need additions and or reshuffling. I just wanted to talk about Dak though, because even though he's being paid 40 per, and Jerry loves him some Dak, his contract was only for 4 years...and that time will go faster than we think.

Edit: I think the coaching staff besides maybe Dan Quinn will be getting completely thrown out the door this offseason.

As has been said, Dallas need Gallup back. Right now all of their weapons are between the hashes and short-mid range. Lamb, Zeke, Pollard & Schultz. When Rush came in most of his throws were to the outside WRs near the sidelines. Part of that might be it is harder to be intercepted but I suspect that it was also the coordinators observing that TB had way too many bodies in the middle of the field.

Gallup is a quality receiver but he shouldn't be the key to the entire offense opening up.

I look at what other teams have done on offense without spending huge money on multiple receivers and I just feel that Moore is the biggest issue. There just doesn't seem to be any adjustments to his players strengths. Dak is no Mahomes but I feel he is definitely in the 8-12 range and an OC should be able to work with that.

What teams have good offenses without the investment in WR?
(Edit to make post clearer) these teams have good offenses and good recieving talent
Vikings: Jefferson
Miami: Hill + Waddle
Eagles: Brown
Raiders: Adams
Bengals: Chase
TB: Evans, Godwin & rejuvenated JJ
Bills: Diggs
Colts: Pittman (and a dominant run game)
KC: kelce, juju, solid 3rd and 4th

On the other side
Green Bay: (looked terrible without Adams)
Dallas: Not good
Cardinals: Not good. (hopkins out and Ertz limping)
