Carney does not have the leverage he thinks he has and Canada was already in a dire economic climate. This will crush their economy.

He's a liar.

And this is really Canadians' fault. He's still popular there and feels no political pressure over this. Enjoy the ride, canucks.

- We would like our businesses to have Tarrif free access to US Markets
- We want to keep our tariffs on US goods to protect these same businesses from having to compete with American businesses

And yet, everyone will blame Trump

I know it is not possible, but Trump should drop all tariffs to Alberta, just to piss off Carney.

Frankly, Trump should cut all his tariffs in half or to 10% whichever is lowest in the next month or so and give the economy a boost in the fall, and actually lower consumer prices. Would really help chances of wins in November so he will have a chance to get anything done his last 2 years besides impeachment battles.

He's doing this on purpose

Choosing to die on a pointless hill so he can claim to be a martyr, with the consequences of his terrible decisions being paid for by Canadian citizens

& then the next step is to take even more money from the Canadian citizens to clean up his own mess bc "socialism is best for everyone"

It's the same playbook everytime

Nah. The commentary class of Karens on the left will, of course. But most folks know this is on Canada. Further, this doesn't hurt Americans much at all.

The Canadian auto industry will cease to exist once current model production is finished. But hey, their dairy industry will remain safe!

Starting to feel like Canadian leaders are "popular" in the same way the Atatollahs are popular in Iran and Putin is popular in Russia.

May even be the same methodology that tells people we are losing to Iran, people are suffering immensely from slight increase in gas prices, and that Tyler Robinson did not act alone.

Nothing but misinformation and gaslighting.

Canada would be smart to just relax. Trump is 1 of 1 and all of this ends on Jan 20th, 2029.

The worst thing they can do is overreact.

Maybe so, but taxing Americans for things like wood products is pure stupidity - we don't allow ourselves to cut down our own trees (think of the animals) so we buy from people who gladly sell it to us. So now we are increasing the price of everything made of wood because Trump is being Trump.

And then announces more government welfare on top of the welfare already announced to offset the decision here he knows is going to screw this country.

So, IOW, the Canada they want is a far left ****hole.

Taxing Americans? The lumber tariffs may at most be a couple lattes worth of additional monthly payment on a home and vastly overshadowed by mistakes too late Powell made at the Fed.

And Trump also went to work on "cutting down our own trees" in the first 45 days of his 2nd term.

Quote:

On March 1, 2025, Trump signed the executive order "Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production." It directed the Interior and Agriculture Departments (via BLM and U.S. Forest Service) to:
Issue updated guidance facilitating higher timber production, faster delivery, and reduced supply uncertainty (using tools like Good Neighbor Authority and stewardship contracting).
Streamline permitting and reduce regulatory burdens on timber production.
Set targets for timber offered for sale from federal lands.
Address factors limiting utilization of U.S. timber resources (the order noted the U.S. has capacity to supply most of its softwood needs but has relied on imports).

Unfortunately at some point, we will start having "political refugees" flooding our northern border. The only difference will be that those of us wanting to enforce immigration laws can no longer be labelled as racist because the "political refugees" will be white Canadians

So, it is ok then to let Canada play unfairly against us just in case they go… to China and Russia?

Given all the former Hong Kong-ese that fled China, and are so happy they did, I am not sure they will be jumping up and down to see Canada embrace China.

Our Forestry Industries are thriving now in the U.S. We have four timber mills within a 30 mile radius of our little town. They are running at full capacity. It is that way across all of the timber areas in our region.

China has been dumping into Canada for a while. Problem is that Canada is buying a crapload of Chinese inputs, but there's been minimal reciprocity. The only thing Canada has that China wants is oil and it's too damn expensive for them to get it from Canada vs Russia and the ME.

What's your source about the price of lattes? If the price increase is that small, why have our wood imports from Canada dropped significantly? A small increase would imply a small reduction. We have increased our production a bit, and guess what? We've replaced Canadian imports with an increase in European imports.

this seems to be lost on most everyone because of TDS. I have yet to see anyone justify why we should be unfavorable to any country in tariffs. If Canada wants a no tariff agreement , then make it fully reciprocal- it is just common sense .

Carney is and has been a Chinese stooge. Trans-shipments are also a huge problem for us coming from Canada.

Also love Carney's economic claims when per capita GDP has only widened in recent years with the US growing 4-5x against Canada and continuing to diverge. And that's just in the last decade. Plus, their unemployment rate is 2 pts higher than ours.

Carney is a clown.

You hav to see the whole board. Katie's bf was doing all kinds of deals with China. With Trump shutting down the southern border, China is now shipping the precursors to Canada for cartel and Russian mob usage. I'm not saying roll over to Canada but that's a big border and a lot of space for our enemies to attack from.

If a latte is $7.50 you are talking about an additional $5400 over the life of a 30 yr mortgage in his scenario. You are forgetting the most important part though, numbers don't matter when defending trumps poor economic decisions.
