The idea that anyone thinks you can completely take religion discussion out of politics is absurd.

Ones personal beliefs are the basis for which chose how they'll advocate for society decision making.

I never knew why some people (a small minority), even here on TA think that their religion is "true" and other's religions are "false". A terribly brainwashed and hare-brained view of things.

There was one time when someone came to my door to "spread the word" and basically convert me. It was a slow Saturday afternoon and I was in the mood for a conversation. So I engaged him. He told me his religion brings world peace. I said really? He said yes, it is in this book. I asked him when? He said it is not written. I told him humans have been fighting from forever and they will continue forever. Nothing has ever changed humans. I don't see any signs either. Then he changed tack. He claimed his religion will bring me peace. I said show me. He had no proper proof. I said I would convert to his religion if he could prove something to me, not just make claims. Dude got nothing. Then I told him, I looked at religion like this. You are in a suburb, you want to get downtown. You can drive, take the tollway or not, take a train or not, there are many ways. You take your way, I take my way. We both reach downtown. What is bad in that?

So this "my religion is better than yours" is the most dumbest argument I have heard. No one can prove it without resorting to lies and propaganda (which itself is non-divine). The only barometer is to see how the adherents behave.

Both men looked bad in this fracas, but Trump was slightly more mature among the two. Elon was atrocious, he was trying his best to provoke Trump with his dumb tweets. He could have called up Trump and talked to him, why insult him in public? What a doofus. I would be pissed off if someone did that to me. Trump said yesterday he wished Elon the best and did not want to talk about him anymore.

I think among the two, Trump looked better. Elon looked like a petulant child.

The bill does come with some spending cuts, but they come with a gaping asterisk… they're scheduled to occur several election cycles from now, during which time it's not only plausible but likely that a Dem-controlled Congress will have the opportunity to cancel them. And they' amount to just $1.8T over a 10 year period.

This isn't a strategic error. Rather, the folks voting for this bill simply don't care if it happens or not because that's a problem for another Congress and they'd rather claim a win than do the work.

On the flip side, the $5T debt ceiling increases in the bill are scheduled to occur immediately. And they're sized to be large enough that we wouldn't need another debt ceiling increase maybe until Trump leaves office. It's an HUGE amount. And we all know what happens when you give government a long spending leash.

So Congress is borrowing from the future and giving it an IOU that it very likely can't redeem.

Musk, Massie, Paul would like to see us at least go back to pre COVId spending levels. This bill can't even get us there and 90% of the establishment is attacking them for making things difficult.

If 90% of the establishment is fighting them on it (and I think that's probably even a little bit low), all that does is prove that no budget bill would pass with cuts. If they don't pass at least renew the tax cuts, republicans are toast in upcoming elections. The solution is renew the current tax levels and include spending that will pass. It's not ideal. However, it is how politics works. Elon is viewing this as a business where the executive is just in charge. But Trump isn't the CEO. The bill actually does have to pass.

Trump was the MORE mature one (as compared to Musk) in all of this. Trump should have completely ignored Musk but to his credit he did not escalate beyond a point.

One of the most impresses things (to me) about Elon is how quickly he is willing to give up on bad ideas or reverse course when he gets new information. This is pretty obvious with all the harebrained ideas SpaceX has abandoned. I was in Hawthorne during a launch and Elon sat in the seat next to me and talked with his lead engineer for 2 hours about trying to recover their fairings. I think that may have been their last attempt with the catcher's mitt atop one of their ships.
