A 64-year-old man accidentally ejected himself from a fighter jet at 2,500 feet

An untrained old guy, not a pilot, not even an aviation buff, has exactly what to do with an elite Marine Corps aviator?

While we are discussing missing aircraft, has that gigantic passenger plane that went missing on the radar after the box thing was removed ever get found? All those people? I said at the time that the plane will be used in a future attack.

What box was removed? And if you're talking the Malaysian Airlines jet, the deranged pilot flew it into a portion of the Pacific Ocean so remote that it might as well be the back side of the moon. It crashed into the sea, and a part washed up in Africa months later.

Transponder not working on a stealthy fighter jet that was left on autopilot when the pilot ejected. No wonder they can't find it...must have went down in a very rural area or out at sea? Very weird, hope we get some answers from the Marine Corps on this.

It makes me chuckle, that it's described as a 'mishap'.

it's a cool 110 million down the drain. But just a little mishap.

Yeah that is it...... "A part"? Some might still be skeptical.

Pretty much impossible to accidently eject from an F-35. The large, bright yellow and black striped handle is quite hard to mistake for anything else.

What movie is that from? That's a pretty cool aircraft, a civilian owned C-130A, built in 1955. Used for a lot of movies, including Fast and Furious 7, where they dropped cars out the back.

Why didn't it have luneburg lenses attached while flying over the states?

Whatever. Dive a jet into the sea at 400mph and see if anything other than tiny pieces is left.

And we're not talking about some yokel who walked up and grabbed the keys. It ain't easy to become a military pilot. Usually, only the top of the class get fighters. And a new platform like the F-35, the first ones in the squadron are going to be the pilots with lots of hours in other fighters. They aren't putting a new person in a new plane.

Just an excuse... The plane is in Ukraine right now.

Maybe, maybe not. If the pilot screwed up, they may be done.

If the plane malfunctioned, the pilot will be back in the cockpit.

MCAS Beaufort only has one current F-35B squadron - VMFAT-501. The "T" stands for training. They have been providing the pilots for the entire USMC F-35B pipeline up until about a year ago. All of the rest of the squadrons at Beaufort are F/A-18C/D units (or have been placed into cadre awaiting operational F-35B deliveries). The pilot and his wingman for this F-35B flight were likely a JO trainee and a (slightly) more senior training officer.

I misplace my F-35 at least twice a week.
You know, I did as well. Then downloaded the new app on my iPhone "Where's my F-35?"

Now it's never actually "lost" but it is a ***** trying to get back in it while it's flying.

Yeah, this administration hasn't ever promoted for anything but the best. Certainly no diversity promotions in the military the last three years.

Well, that's cool, but the other poster was implying it was Chinese who were grabbing the drone...with an American-registered plane.

That's not at all what he was implying but you knew that already. If you want to argue something by playing dumb, fine, but you seem to have taken the role a little too seriously. And no, I don't think this was a Chinese op to grab the F35.

No idea on the 35. I always thought the required force on the T-6 ejection handle was too low.

Think it was like 25 lbs. always thought you needed to earn your ejection a little more than that

The clear implication was that China stole the F-35.
