The House investigations better keep going before the 30 days after up and the judge considers whatever new deal is struck.

Depends on what Devon Archer says. He's the lynchpin.

Wickr was pretty early on the encrypted app, delete, no trace, and no screenshot game. You registered, supposedly the comm was encrypted to a high level, messages disappeared after reading (recall you could set how long they would last), and if you took a screenshot it would immediately send a note to the other user you had done so, breaking the trust.

Absolutely no reason to use such an app other than to hide comms. None, no reason. Setup like that for doing nefarious things.

But do they really completely go away? No cloud storage? No NSA?

Likely yes.

I would have to go back but it would be highly unlikely any retrievable info remained. Encrypted, expiring, point to point… it was actually well rated for doing what it was intended to do.

However, apps like that are no fun if there is no record. I would suspect, just like with Al Capone, someone has a ledger.

Isn't he giving an interview rather than sworn testimony? Not that it matters in America today.

Are these messages on wickr or a secure app on the laptop?

How pathetic/predictable is it that a non-profit group with a public copy of the laptop hard drive had to announce this information, instead of our intrepid FBI/DoJ?

Quote:

But the non-profit group Marco Polo, which has a site with all the laptop photos and video, has discovered something new after an analysis of the hard drive that Hunter Biden used at least 16 private messaging apps, many of which were encrypted, which could have had even more sensitive communications if what was on the open drive wasn't already shocking enough.

Among the apps were Signal, the Chinese messaging app WeChat, and Wickr, an app termed as "favored in the criminal underworld" and liked by the U.S. military.

According to a person familiar with the research, "We know he downloaded the app Wickr. The app downloaded 226 times from his iCloud account from 2012 onward." The person speculated, "I think that's where you're going to find the Joe Biden conversations."

"There is no trace of Wickr on the iPhone or the laptop, which means he was very secure with it," the source said.

The Wickr app did not appear on the iPhone backup included in the laptop but had previously been downloaded onto the phone from iCloud. So, it may have been installed and then subsequently deleted, according to the source.

But he has multiple emails that mention the use of Wickr, where he's talking about communicating with others on it.

I think I saw one of the republican stooges tell one of the Fox stooges Archer is giving a a transcribed interview Monday. Not sure what that actually is.

Was supposed to be sworn testimony but yesterday DOJ sent a letter to the judge overseeing Devon Archer's prior bond case to order his surrender date, since he lost an appeal of conviction last week.

So DOJ is putting pressure on Archer.

Might be a stupid question, but is Archer's conviction for something that Biden could theoretically pardon? It's just hard for me to imagine a scenario in which one of Hunter's closest business partners "flips". It's unusual for anyone to wake up one day and suddenly develop a sense of ethics, "find religion", what have you. Especially knowing how bad he could potentially make both the Bidens AND the DOJ look if he spills the beans.

Not stupid at all. And yes he was convicted of federal securities law violations arising out of a separate bond deal. (Note, Hunter could arguably have been charged in that case.) So a pardon might be in play.

OTOH, he made restitution and has only been sentenced to a year and a day of prison time and for white collar, that would be in Club Fed most likely.

But here is where it might get a little sticky. My understanding is that Devon's legal troubles started around 2015 with his conviction in 2017. So how much contact did he have with Hunter and businesses in the meantime? Could he be in potential legal jeopardy for any of that? Now in theory, Congress can offer him immunity but after the Oliver North issue wherein his convictions were thrown out for lack of parallel construction, Congressional immunity is usually much more limited now, if even offered.

So we'll see what happens tomorrow. Does he show? Does he testify or take the 5th out of an abundance of caution? Even either of those happen, I'd wager there is a pardon possibility floating around.

Sounds like Mr. Archer enthusiastically supports the idea of him reporting to prison.

thats kina wild.

But it's 2023 so who knows what the story is.

But I would recommend putting in an IT work ticket to double check the cameras in an around his cell.

No. He needs to be livestreaming with multiple cameras/feeds and a crowd around him, imho, preferably from a ground floor, with a plan for a brief walk to the Capitol tomorrow morning, cameras in tow, and a very high priced security detail.

Just a few years ago, I'd have only joked/mocked such a suggestion. I fully expect to wake up to a dawn FBI swat team raid Oliver Stone style on his residence and arrest/murder.

Is there a law on the books that prevents a non-dependent relative of a politician from making money from lobbying or any other service that they likely would not get if their relative was not a politician? If so, what is the law?

Sort of. But House employees and Senate employees oversee that. So in fact, no.

His license is suspended for non payment of his bar fees in Connecticut. Not a huge lie but still a misrepresentation. Better way to answer that would be to say he is currently inactive in Connecticut.
