Had tickets for last night's ELO show in Phoenix, bought 'em back in March when they first went on sale. Been looking forward to it since, particularly since it's supposedly their last tour ever.

Drive the roughly hour to downtown Phx for the show, have dinner somewhere with the wife, and then drive to the parking garage next to the Footprint Center for the show. When we pull up to the garage there are handwritten signs saying the show had been cancelled/postponed due to a bandmember illness. I'm assuming it's Jeff Lynne because it seems like they could get by with just about any other person being sick except him. The cancellation announcement only happened about 4-5 pm, so probably a lot of folks were already down there by the time they found out.

So effectively we drove 2 hours roundtrip, to have a salad.

Anyway the show's postponed until next Tuesday Oct 29, but I'm already going to a different show that night (Opeth), so getting refunds for the ELO tix. Blah.

I hear when it gets too intense, Sting defaults to "don't stand so close to me"

I went to the show in denver, hadn't seen staind in a long time. man he can still bring it. Some brutal screams in there.

I don't think Ben can even really do it anymore, his hired gun did all the heavy vocal stuff. overall BB vocals were way quieter than Aaron as well. A bit disappointed.
They didn't play our pavillion they played a new outdoor SRO place that only holds about 10k.

Oh yeh, also, Ben is totally looking like Eminem these days.

oh yeh and something else I meant to post on here after the show.. What in the world kinda contraption is in front of Ben? Dude needs constant supply of fresh air or what?

two sets.. I wonder if it's a Metallica 'no repeat' style!

They generally play the same set every night, maybe swapping 1 or 2 songs.

What are this thread/board's thoughts on going to see a concert alone? A lot of the music I am into is not the same as most of my friends.

I went a year or so ago to see The California Honeydrops live in Houston at a small venue and while the show was incredible, it was pretty awkward to stand alone through breaks, etc.

Did it once when we had Covid. Wife didn't feel up for it and I did, but didn't want to be around any friends. It was outdoors at white oak and I stayed away from everyone. But it sucked.

Yeah. Not a big deal. But I'll talk to anybody so I'm never really alone anywhere!

Before kids, wife always went to whatever I was going to, save for a handful of metal shows, but usually had friends at those.
But now since kids were born (10 years ago) I do 90%+ of concerts alone.

Since kids, wife has joined for alice in chains several times, soundgarden, pearl jam, candlebox (you can guess what music she listens to lol) but also blue october, muse, metallica in 2017, wife and kids are doing Metallica next summer.

But I've done a few dozen alone in recent years. My metal friends are back in TX, so I don't have anyone here in CO to join on those. Doesn't bother me a bit.

I've done it before for Ozzfest and a few other shows. I promise you, no one who is standing near you cares or even notices you are there alone. If its someone you want to see, go see em. Everyone is too busy chatting it up or buried in their phone to care about you.

I am a 80's hair metal, LA glam metal, heavy metal fan... nearly all of my friends left these music genres 20+ years ago.

I have attended lots of shows solo... Accept, Udo Dirkschneider, Bullet Boys, Armored Saint, Dangerous Toys, LA Guns, Faster *****cat, and on and on.

I drink my beer or whiskey/whisky/bourbon at these shows and rock on.

Rock... be rocked... or step aside. zRock. \m/

It is a 2:20 game.. I know game/concert in 1 day is a lot, but just making sure that he doesn't think the timing would conflict.
I am getting there like at 7:30

Alright yall have convinced me. I'm heading out solo to WOMH tonight to check out The Dip.

I bought the tix months ago and totally forgot I had them until the Ticketmaster email reminder came yesterday. Bought 2 thinking my wife would be able to come with me but that didn't work out.

If anyone wants the extra, I can transfer it to you.

The opener, Parlor Greens, actually may have my attention more than the headliner.

I'm not in Denver, but am curious what the VIP consists of. It didn't seem to be available for the Phoenix show.

my aeg contact told me it's a private standing area in front row, unless it's fully GA, in which case it's a private promoter box area in the back corners.

In denver's case it's the promoter box.

Interesting. Yeah, there were no VIP tix available in that sense for Phx, though I guess there might be something special from the promoter for their own groups.

By chance I was able to meet Opeth in 2012 on their tour with Mastodon, and with a relatively unknown band called Ghost opening. The same Opeth lineup as the current tour other than the drummer. They were all friendly, but other than Mikael not too talkative.

Was hoping there might have been a meet and greet on this tour, but it doesn't seem they do that in general.

I don't think there was vip for this show either. I list got them from an aeg person.

Yeh most of the guys don't talk much. Just Frederick and Mikael.
I saw them in 2008; missed the 2011 Houston show, (was offshore) then they skipped Houston on the tour with ghost; they did Denver in April 2012, but we moved to Denver in June that year, so missed them then too.
Saw ghost soon after though headlining, in April 2013 at a small club.

This will be my 6th opeth show, since 2008. (With Per on keys!)

Ended up going out to Woodlands last night - breaking Ben sounded great. Caught the second half of staind's set and GD Aaron Lewis can still belt it out, even some '99 era screamgrowls

I've done it countless times. I'm not going to miss a show I want to see just because no one else can go with me.
