This got announced today. The inaugural Big As Texas Music and Food Festival in Montgomery County in Conroe. I'm pretty amazed they will be having a three day festival in that area featuring the likes of one Billy Strings, along with Dierks Bentley, Dwight Yoakam, and many others. I'll for sure be there. .

Based on the Fyre Fest vibe in the supplemental packages (lol at $3,800 for a glamping tent or $15,000 for a private cabana), this could turn out to be a complete **** show.

after perusing the list of people playing, I realized a few things;

*Today's country appears to be dominated by solo acts. 75% of that list is a solo act, only 3 of them are 4+ people. has it always been like that? (I'm not a country person). After a quick thought, I guess I can't think of many country bands, but can def. spout off country singers.

*Most of the female solo acts have a sultry/sexy pose. Makes me question if they are selling sex or good music.

*The Heels, what happened there. Must be a childhood friend lol.

anyone ever seen TSO? As a metalhead dad, it might be cool to have my kids first concert experience be one that not only mom won't forbid, but will have fire, loud guitars and lights and whatnot.

I thought it was 1 band.. is it just a licensed name now? They have multiple shows on same days in different cities.

oh and in case you didn't know, Fort Worth TX is also known as Dallas lol.

Highly, highly recommend seeing TSO if you get the chance! Seen them 5 or 6 times and would go every year if they came through town.

As long as I can remember they've always run two tours at a time, basically TSO East and TSO West running the same show. Seen both (in different years) and unless you know the actual personnel you won't notice a difference.

My family went last year. It was just ok. It is a lot and seem to go on forever. The spectacle was cool for a little while, then they went into this section with a story that was really corny. Once that was over I thought it was done but it went on for another hour. We were all very ready to leave by the time it was done. It felt very repetitive to me.

Not saying it wasn't worth trying, but no way I would go back.

Fun pointless fact:

Blas Elias, formerly of Slaughter, and before that formerly of a Houston band called Silk, was a touring drummer with TSO for awhile.

Or was it Blue Man Group?

Or both?

This is a good point. Familiarize yourself with their debut album Christmas Eve and Other Stories because the first half of the show is basically the album cover to cover while the second half is the rest of their "hits" (Wizards in Winter, their take on Flight of the Bumblebee, etc.). That album has been a staple in my family for 25 years so I love the first act, but can see how it would be hit or miss for others.

even then.. they are doing two shows a day, consecutive days for a month..

I guess the crew/stage set up must be in two pairs... no way they can tear down all that, get to another city and set up for 3pm show.

Definitely possible. They know they've got limited time each year and can't tour year round, so I'd imagine they're willing to do whatever needed to pack in as many shows as they possibly can.

If they are renting the backline in each city it makes for less stuff to haul and setup

Did not see that insanity. On the bright side at least there is plenty of regular civilization surrounding the event should anything go awry.

Got an email this morning about a date at Moody in Austin as well just announced for Friday, February 2nd with Steely Dan opening. Will have to add that one to the calendar.

I wouldn't think backline accounts for much of the work when you have that massive stage with trusses, moving parts, lighting, pryo, etc.

Metallica's current tour takes like 2-3 days to rig up.

Found this before I hit post.

so yeh 24 hour step up, assuming that or maybe slightly less tear down, they def. have at LEAST two crews for west and 2 for east.

Nov 24 - Spokane, WA - Spokane Arena - 7:00 PM
Nov 25 - Worcester, MA - DCU Center - 3:00 PM & 8:00 PM
Nov 25 - Seattle, WA - Climate Pledge Arena - 3:00 PM & 7:30 PM
Nov 26 - Uncasville, CT - Mohegan Sun Arena - 3:00 PM & 8:00 PM
Nov 26 - Portland, OR - Moda Center - 3:00 PM & 7:30 PM

Looking at that.. the spokane show over at 10pm, tear down takes say 15 hours, that's the 25th at 1pm. Drive to portland that's 6 hours, 7pm on the 25th, then they have a show 26th at 3pm.

maybe the same stage/gear, but gotta be a different crew. 6 hours of sleep followed by 20+ working hours doesn't seem realistic.
So maybe 2 stage sets and 4 crews for each 'band' (east coast and west coast)

That's impressive.

I saw TSO several years ago and it's awesome. Waiting for my kids to get a little older so it will be worth the cost

I think there's a logical time to use "The" and a logical time not to, based on the context.

Caught The Church on Friday night in Phoenix. I've been a fan of this band for close to 40 years now, but this was the first time seeing them live. Probably my favorite show of the year, they put on an amazing show.

They're mostly known for "Under the Milky Way", but have cranked out album after album since then that are just as good. Well worth seeing if you're able to. They'll be in TX at the end of October.

Heads up for anyone interested - The Church is in Houston tonight at the Heights Theater, and tomorrow night in Dallas at the Kessler.
