In the voice of Dave Chappelle, that was the gayest thing I've ever seen in my life!! Nowhere in the game did this love affair happen.

Had high hopes. Call me homophobic. Whatever, I don't care. I should have known HBO/Hollywood would manage to **** this up. At least let us get to Last of Us 2 when we can debate whether Abby is a ****** or not.

I bet the other thread is going nuts because Joel flat out spoiled they are going to West to find Tommy. He didn't give a spoiler warning or anything.

Great episode, though. Never would have thought a gay love story about a prepper in the middle of a zombie apocalypse would work so well.
It didn't work well. Who the **** needs 40 minutes of that? Okay, Bill is gay (which was news to me and not necessarily relevant). Let's put a bow on it after a couple of minutes of air time and not devote the entire ****ing episode to it.

I'm so deflated. In the midst of a global outbreak I don't need that much character building and gay sex and I don't even care if it's Ellie licking the other girl's hairy armpits.

That was simply awful. How could one even take Ron Swanson seriously in this role either? I get that Nick Offerman is a great actor but ***** So forced and so bad.

The story of Bill and Frank is 100% from the game, except the story is told through letters and you find Frank's body so obviously they don't go out together. This has nothing to do with HBO/Hollywood...

Major deviation from the game but dang it was good. If they were gonna deviate from anything in the game this was the place to do it and glad they did.

Man that was incredible!!
If they were going to deviate from the game then I'm so glad they made it a love story that nobody that has ever played the game gives a flying **** about.

Unbelievable comment.

Really? Because I don't remember it at all but fair enough if that's part of the story and background.

Was it worth devoting an entire episode to though? I don't even remember Frank and his letters and I've played LOU 1 twice. That's how much of a mark Frank left on me and one would assume most others that just want a GD show without all the bullsh.

That episode was trash. Flame away.

You have to read between the lines in the game. It doesn't flat out say they were gay, but Bill refers to Frank as his partner. Also, Ellie finds a gay porno mag at Bill's house.

No, that was absolutely not part of the game and it's pretty odd to use an entire episode to tell that story just to give the main characters a working vehicle. Gotta throw gay in your face somehow. It was extremely well acted though.

So why the hell is the prepper guy standing straight up in the middle of the street firing at the raiders with a hunting rifle? For a prepper his tactics are terrible.

The raiders were perfectly silhouetted against the gas fires so all you would need to do is find a prone position in the dark and pop them off one by one. Standing up in the middle of the street exposing yourself to fire is the dumbest thing he could have done

Yeah, I thought that was pretty dumb, especially since after he gets shot he says to leave the gas on and it'll take care of them. If that's the case, why did you even go out there?

He is playing on easy just to get through the story. It would've taken more time in the episode to go with hard or survival mode

I played the game and loved this episode but I'm not triggered by the mere existence of gay people so YMMV.

They literally give you the reason for the episode in a letter that is read aloud and some of you still can't make the connection. Wow.

Game spoilers below....

Don't you find out in the game that Frank kills himself cause he can no longer put up with Bill? Bill was much crazier in the game
If I remember correctly, that is only part of Frank's ending. A FEDRA convey rolled into the town and got overrun by infected (much more infected in town in the game than show.) Frank wants to run away from Bill so he goes to the convoy location to find a truck battery. Gets bit by an infected and decides to off himself. So you are left with thinking yes that Frank was tired of Bill but getting bit is what caused Frank to do what he did.

It was an amazing episode, gay or not. A beautiful love story told in the very darkest of times.

I'm glad they deviated from the game because Frank's letter was pretty brutal in the game and there wasn't a lot to go off of. Were they the perfect match? Nowhere close. But they loved each other nonetheless

Game-wise, the letter, the context clues, the actual muted-but-devastated reaction from Bill, Joel doing the Joel thing of being empathetic-but-bad-at-being-empathetic after he realizes what Frank was to Bill. All great storytelling in the game without much to go off of. I'm glad they went HAM on a full ass episode for this to flesh out the characters and the universe, just like I was glad about how they did the same thing with the cold opens for the first two episode.

I'm not flaming because your perception and reaction are your own, and there's no right or wrong.

But I couldn't disagree more profusely, and I'm usually one of the people rolling eyes and turning stuff off when it's pure agenda and as a result detracts or distracts from the storytelling.

That episode was so masterfully done taking us through 20 years of two people still building meaningful and love-filled lives against overwhelming odds, and exploring how our lives given meaning by our relationships with others. Almost all the world had gone to hell, but because these two people had each other, they not only survived, they triumphed, given the circumstances.

Frank's insistence on caring for the properties, the joy/gratitude over a mere strawberry, and Bill finding purpose in his life after Armageddon simply because he had someone to love, care for and protect. The story wasn't about gay sex, it was about basic humanity.

at the pace they're going....my guess is the climax for that part will be episode 6 (with those 2 characters being introduced in episode 5)....which means that it's seeming more and more likely that this season is going to end with joel rescuing ellie from the cannibals that go after them after the hospital attack in pittsburg (or i think it was pittsburg)
