I bet Neo is really himself and he created a copy of Trinity, but they are both freaking out because she's not really a human. Pinocchio in tight black leather.

I could see it being something like Neo had somehow managed to store Trinity's data in himself and was able to recreate her.

My main question is how Neo survived.

Actually, maybe it was Neo's data which was stored in the Source once he wiped himself off the system.

And this Neo is actually a different real world human (so maybe 30-40 years later), but he eventually gets his original Neo data re-uploaded. (Ie his memory is restored.)

I think Neo and Trinity are both digital, both in the Matrix. I don't think either will still be alive in the real world. The Matrix/machines simply copied/saved their code, and Neo/Trinity have "aged" appropriately in the computer world since the last movie. That's my guess.

As soon as I posted that last post, it occured to me the "digital" Neo might have been uploaded into a different body altogether in the real world. (Maybe one of the new younger cast?)

The most obvious reason to need Agent Smith (who was supposedly totally wiped from the system) is because they want to figure out how a program untethered itself from the system and developed its own agency. Agents don't have literal bodies, it's all electrical signals, so I don't think there's any need for dead characters to inhabit host bodies (unless they are infiltrating the real world a la Smith in Matrix 2).

So Neo could be recreating these people from his own memories, they are kind of real but they are ultimately unsatisfying copies. Philosophically it would borrow a lot from Doug Hofstadter (author of Goedel, Escher, Bach; I am a Strange Loop; and Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies).

The title was apparently featured on an official crew gift she received at the end of production, seen in one of her Instagram pics, which she has since taken down. The title could always change, but all things considered, it seems like it was the real deal.

So apparently there was a test screening this week and this thing sounds weird and wild as hell...

- Title confirmed as "The Matrix Resurrections"

- Set 50 years after the original trilogy.

- Movie is apparently "very meta" and "ambitious to a fault," but also "surprisingly funny."

- At one point Keanu's Neo goes to a movie theater where The Matrix is playing? And "Warner Brothers" is even mentioned at one point?

Weirdly enough, that last point fits somewhat with what we heard way back when, about casting teens as characters who are potentially playing a Matrix video game *in* the movie.

I'm wondering if all of this means that in whatever new computer world the machines have created, they've basically made the events of the first three movies canon/part of popular culture *within* the Matrix, if that makes sense. Which... might be kind of cool? In a crazy, Wachowski kind of way? Who knows...

Oh, and it sounds like we could be getting the first trailer as early as next week with F9, so we should have a better idea of all of this then.

Hey TCTTS - I've been scouring recent posts and guess I just missed it somewhere - is there an updated release date ? I did see one mention of Memorial Day weekend - 2022 I guess ?

December 16, 2021.

As of now, both in theaters and on HBO Max same-day, though I've heard by then the HBO Max of it all might be off the table, and it'll be in theaters only.

Either way, six months from yesterday, hence the first trailer likely dropping soon.

One of these days I need to learn what "meta" means.

The way I originally learned in English classes, was basically meta commentary. Basically a work referring to itself, or commenting on itself.

There are a lot of other meanings now, but they are all basically a version of that.
