I went down a Matrix rabbit hole yesterday (pun intended), trying to figure out where they could be going with this. Any thoughts?

I heard one theory that Neo and Trinity's "code" remained in the Matrix, where they could remain alive without bodies in the real world. (ie. cached) I wouldn't hate that. In fact, you could run with the theme of whether or not they're still human, or just simulations of humans.

Or, what if they've been turned into "agents" for the machines? (Using their old bodies, and maybe even with Neo's abilities, but maybe as agents for the machines this time.)

In any case, it's Trinity that's really throwing me for a loop. Neo can be fairly easily explained, given that he was the One, became part of The Source, etc. Trinity was just a regular human who physically died in the real world.

The machines can't reproduce consciousnesses, at least not in the first 3 movies. Perhaps since the Merovingian is in this one, maybe he has some way to catch their "soul" or consciousness as it leaves the matrix when they die in the Matrix.

Ever since the first set pics a couple weeks ago with Neo and Trinity in the real world, I figured they had to be digital remnants of some kind, as opposed to somehow being resurrected in the real world. So yeah, I think it'll be something along the lines of their "code" or digital selves are still "alive" in the Matrix, which I think is a cool way to go. I think Trinity can easily be explained as either being "cached" somehow from previous builds, or maybe Neo somehow brought her back best he could, from memory. I can see Neo's actual consciousness having melded with the Matrix somehow while Trinity could be more of a 95% facsimile copy or program - something along those lines. Either way, I definitely do not want either of them to still be alive in the real world, which was my initial worry before we started seeing all these pics.

Other than that, I seriously have no idea what this movie is about. Like, absolutely no clue.

Rumors persist that Yahya Abdul-Mateen is playing a young Morpheus, but I hope that's not the case. Based on his Instagram, he's currently in San Fransisco as well...

...so hopefully whatever he's filming is in the same computer/Matrix world timeline as the older Neo and Trinity we keep seeing on the streets of SF, as opposed to some past, pre-first movie timeline.
