So if my contract doesn't end until November and I sign up today, am I going to get hit with a $10 monthly fee from Energy Ogre for those two months that I'm still with my old provider?
I was in the same boat and actually signed up back in July. They basically "paused" my account until early October when I'm eligible for renewal and my year long contract begins then. So, what I'm trying to say is, wait until about 2-3 weeks prior to your end of contract before signing up.

I just got officially switched over to Gexa yesterday by Energy Ogre.

I had to check back with the customer service rep who originally contacted me when I first signed up. About a week went by without hearing from her. From the sounds of it their system didn't automatically pull my full usage data from my old provider like it was supposed to. That left my account in a state of limbo that took me calling back to get the ball rolling.

Kudos to her in that she had a complete estimate back to me while we were on the phone for 5 minutes. She then took care of the old provider cancellation and new provider sign up within a couple of hours yesterday after I emailed back my confirmation to proceed.

It's kind of ridiculous that I will pay a $250 cancelation fee to Bounce, pay for the $10 a month Energy Ogre charge, and I will still come out with a couple hundred dollars in savings in just 10-12 months.

Make sure Bounce doesn't try to fudge you over. I had a 150 ETF and they are trying to charge me $200 even after calling and confirming the 150 AND calling about the 200 bill when I first got it. If they don't respond today I think my next action is to dispute the CC charge as fraudulent.

Yeah. I have a feeling it's SOP for them and most people don't look at it.

I've been with Nueces Electric Coop for four years and have been satisfied with them. It's a variable rate plan but there is no contract and your bill is very simple: kWh X rate = bill + tax. It's been nice not having to go through the hassle of finding a new provider and I've been content with the higher rate just solely out of convenience.

A lot of people in my town use them and the common theme behind NEC is "they pay a dividend" or "the dividend is usually two months worth of electricity", etc.

I ran the math and, including the "dividend", I've paid an effective rate of $0.12 in the past year. My bill for last month was $308 for 2515 kWh.

Energy Ogre just switched me to Gexa for the next 6 months and I'll have an effective kWh rate of $0.045 for any month I use over 1,000 kWh between now and March. I wish I would've done this sooner. I'll more than pay for a years worth of EO's service in my first month of savings.

This is for our garage apartment, so low usage, but it's 3.34 cents per kWh. Our energy charge from Gexa was negative so we paid less than the CenterPoint transmission and distribution only rate.

When did you lock in that rate? We almost always use less than 1,000 kWh, and it's a bummer to see most providers charge extra for low usage.

Our contract started 6/30. We get a $25 credit if we stay under 1000 kwh.

Looked at my old bills and when compared to my actual billing rate my net savings is about $600 in 4 months.

Making the switch now to Gexa, 4.7 cents when over 1,000 kWh and 6.2 when under 1,000.

I already see that cancelling with Bounce is going to suck. I have been on the phone with them today and it looks like they are already messing around with my contract date. I signed a new one on 7/17, to take effect on 7/31. My most recent bill, running from 7/30-8/28 shows me paying the old contract price, not the new one. My new contract end date is now 8/28/16, not 7/31/16 as I was told. I have also been told 3 different amounts for my ETF from 3 different people. My energy facts label says $135, lady on the phone this morning said $200 and now a new agent is telling me $250. WOW

Cancel your auto pay. When you get your last bill pay only the amount you owe for the electricity that you don't owe anything for what you used and they won't be out any money for the energy they bought. Then once you are squared up and on a better plan start arguing with them over the ETF. I would even go as far as telling them you had to relocate suddenly for work out of state and maybe they will knock it down some.

That company is the suck. I'm stull so pissed. They KEEP calling me about 3 times a week and wont leave a message. I finally stopped answering. They are rude. And deceitful. And crooked.

I saved my EFL that was on my account. I'm really close to calling the Public Utility Commission and see what they can do. It's obvious to me that if they did it to me, and they are doing it to you, it just be SOP to charge an ETF of whatever they want and hope you don't look at your bill.
mneisch
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It seems to be SOP for them. I have already turned off auto pay so I don't have to fight it after I have paid them. I will wait until they prove all the charges are valid.

I cancelled reliant last month to take advantage of a rate of 4 cents per kW. I just got a call from an account specialist at reliant and they offered 2.7 cents per kW. I told them I just switched to another provider and under contract for 3 months. He said no problem and to call him back to request the rate and it should still be available.

I told him I tried to get reliant to match the 4 cents when I cancelled and said well the customer service personnel don't have access to the rates an account specialist has.

I am going to try in a couple of months and see if it is still available.
mneisch
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No way 2.7 is all inclusive. That's lower than Centerpoints energy charge. They would be losing money on every kWh you used.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It was not all inclusive. I asked about the center point charge and he said he wouldn't know what it is until I actually signed up but it shouldn't be more than $5-10 which also caught me by surprise. My last center point charges were $5+3.5 cents per kW which comes up around $130-150 per bill. I use around 3500 kW per month.
LostInLA07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They lied to you. The CenterPoint charge is the same regardless of provider.

I am starting to think it was ploy to have me sign back up right then. He was supposed to send me the Fact Sheet so I could look it over but have not received it. Oh well, I will wait my 2 more months and see what rates are out there.

I just got my first bill from Cirro Energy, $89...that is for 20 days since the other 10 were still with Reliant. 20 days on Cirro, $89, 10 days with Reliant $140. Crazy.

Did Energy Ogre let you guys know they had signed you up for service? I just got an email from StarTex Power saying welcome to StarTex. I didn't know if that's how it goes every time.

Seems like I got an email from cirro and an email from EO about the same time. Been a few months so I don't remember though.

Olag,
That's awesome

I think I got the Cirro e-mail first, followed by the Energy Ogre bill detailing what they did.

I think that sounds like all is well.

Here's my report.

My June bill at my old provider (don't have a July bill handy) was $234.25 for 2,448 kWh.

After I signed up with energy ogre in early August, my first bill with my new provider is $134.26 for 2,373 kWh. $100 savings on a difference of a measly 75 kWh.

Big win both in time savings and to the bottom line.

Saved another $50! puts me at $235 net savings in 5 months compared to my average billing rate. Got a letter from Cirro saying my contract is about up and they want me to re-up for 11.5. Pretty funny. I'm curious to see how smoothly the transition will be between companies and what rates EO locks me into over the next few weeks. I think my contract expires at the end of this month.

My three month contract is coming to an end on the meter read after 11/11/2015 so I started looking for other providers. I found 4Change Energy had the lowest rate as of now 4.7 cents. When I first began looking the rates started at 4.6 cents so I decided to go ahead and lock in this rate just in case it kept increasing.

After I signed up, they are offering the following if anyone wants to use the link to sign up. Not sure what the rate will be when you click the link but we both get $25 Visa gift card.

www.4changeenergy.com/4friends/f100733

Here is what it says:

quote:
Share your unique referral link and your low rate on social media, then watch the referrals roll in. You'll receive a $25 VISA gift card for each friend, family member, coworker, or complete stranger that you refer to 4Change who enrolls using your link. Even better? They'll get a $25 VISA gift card, too.
