Switched me to Gexa 9 month.

Looks like it should save about $400-$500/year over my previous Reliant plan.

For those in Houston with average usage above ~1800 kWh/month that were recently put on 7.4-7.7 c/kWh plans: As of this morning, MyQuestEnergy's Power12 is posting average rates as low as 6.4 c/kWh in bulk. For MJM's usage (on p.14 of this thread), it would save him a net $99 after his $150 early termination from Pioneer. There's no compliant history for MQE posted on PowerToChoose, and last week this plan was posted for only a few hours, so no guarantees. You can check it out for your situation/usage on TPG.

My contract runs out on June 27. I looked at EO but it never asked me for my ESIID. It's projections for my usage looked to be higher than historical (>4000 in the summer months). Last 12 months below...

All readings are on the 15th of the month

May 2017 - 2550
Apr 2017 - 2062
Mar 2017 - 1635
Feb 2017 - 1640
Jan 2017 - 2031
Dec 2016 - 1856
Nov 2016 - 2471
Oct 2016 - 2651
Sep 2016 - 3156
Aug 2016 - 3252
Jul 2016 - 3118
Jun 2016 - 2730

I want to like EO but for some reason I'm not totally sold yet. Anybody persuade me one way or the other?

OLA- Since you know your usages by month, you've already done the hardest part. Just plug those numbers into the RateGrinder tool at www.TexasPowerGuide.com. If you live in DFW or Houston, My Quest Energy's "Power 12" is currently still the lowest cost option at 6.5 c/kWh, which is quite good for ~2,400 kWh/month (since the sub-6 cent teaser rates tend to dry up above ~2000 kWh/month). It'd take you about 15 minutes to sign yourself up this way, and includes rate monitoring and expiration reminders.

Shopping with any of several unbiased services will save you ~50% vs ignoring an expired plan. Whether EO's full-service model in particular works for you generally depends on how much your time is worth.

I went ahead and cancelled EO for the summer as I enrolled in a 3-month, heavy usage credit plan with StarTex for 3 months. Kind of mixed feelings. EO provided a very good service but I was concerned about being locked into another 12-month plan with an end date in mid-summer 2018. So I'm rolling the dice for the short term and seeing how it plays out.

Zidnaut - thanks for the Rate Grinder links. Very helpful.

Mengland - thanks for the constant attention to this thread and willingness to support other Ags. I'll give EO another opportunity in the fall.

I have been using powertochoose for over 2 years now and I am coming up on my renew at end of this month but power to choose has all 9-36 month contracts now...there is one 3 month at 7.1 cents in my area. I guess that is why Energy Ogre is giving people the 12 month contracts because no one is offering 3-6 month anymore.
Not sure if they are available in your area but StarTex has a couple of 3 month programs available. The bill credit program is not listed on PTC. https://signup.startexpower.constellation.com/Plan/Index

We're moving in two weeks, so I've been reviewing all the different options for an energy provider and their plans. Using Awesome Power Texas, I think I've settled on a plan, but would it be best to select a nine month or one year term? Given what others have said on this thread, renewing in the Spring (2018) may be the better option than during the summer (2018).

So after all the hype around energy ogre I decided to sign up since my contract just ended with cirro. After energy ogre did their "thang" and analyzed my bill they signed me up for a 12 month plan on reliant with an annual savings of -$14. They said they could not find me any savings. So add the $10 per month energy ogre fee and I will now be paying more for electricity. Yay!

Just cancel. Energy Ogre doesn't have contracts, and you can get out of the energy contract with no penalty for the first week or so.

Why does new construction make things any different? Only thing missing will be the 'projected savings' from EO since you won't have any historical usage.

Been using Energy ogre for over a year and been very pleased with the savings.

However, they just switched me to a GEXA 12 month plan that looked good at first but just got my first bill and it was TRIPLE what I have been paying a month for the last few months.

I looked harder and it shows that if I went over 1,000kw my price skyrockets.

I've been averaging about 750-800kw hours since we moved in my new house in November but now that it's summer I'm wondering why they put me in a plan like that being so close to that threshold knowing our usage would probably go up during the summer?

So to say the least I'm not too happy to be locked into a 12 month plan and will be calling them tomorrow to see what they can do

Not Gexa, but something similar just happened to me with a Pioneer plan they put me on.

That's frustrating. I'd be willing to bet though that even with the rate hike for a few months long term you would probably still be better off than on a different plan. But I would be calling them as well and double checking them.

They had an issue with my
autopay on amigo and I got a phone call saying I was about to be disconnected. So I hung up and called
EO to fix it for me. They did a quick turn around. Always been great customer service for me.

I cancelled Energy Ogre a few months ago after they put me on a 6 month plan. The service was beneficial when they were changing providers every 3 months but 6 months was too long to keep paying the $10 per month.

Now the 6 months is up and I am DIY-ing this go round. I plugged my usage into the RateGrinder and came up with these two plans.

I am a little skeptical of the monthly usage credit structure but I am only had two months in the last 12 to with under 1000 kWh so it could result in a significant cost savings. Also, the provider Discount Power has mixed review at best.

Any input would be appreciated.

First of all sorry, I don't have any specific input to offer, but for me, it's worth $10 a month, and really I feel comfortable in saying it's worth $120/yr, to have EO take care of this for me. Yes I could probably do the analysis, but how long would it take me, and would my analysis be accurate? If I were managing this myself, it might only take 1 month of being out of contract to be hit with a huge bill. Things come up in life, I'm forgetful, and I can't guarantee myself I could set aside the time (even once a year potentially) to really sit down and do the analysis it would take.

And maybe it's specific to my situation, but with my electricity usage my bill is typically between 70 and 150 per month. Before EO it was 200-280. Per year, that's a difference of over $1000. Based on my numbers, I see the value in EO as a service, but I definitely understand if the value is not as great for someone else based on their lesser savings potential, or whatever the case may be. In any case, good luck and sorry im not more help for your specific situation!

I appreciate both replies!

Like I said, I have seen value from Energy Ogre. I think I should have been more clear... I was specifically looking for input on Discount Power and/or plans with a minimum usage credit like the ones I linked.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've used Discount Power for 3 of the past 4 contracts with no issues. I'd take the Scorecard ratings on PowerToChoose with a grain of salt due to limitations in their method. DP was 4-stars last month, now they're 3-stars. Whatever.
Your usage is indeed right on the cusp of taking perfect advantage of those plans and their $85/month credit. If you want to be safe, however, perhaps you just set a reminder to run a space heater outside in late March and November as needed? Or you can not worry about it by paying an extra $85/year to get the cheapest plan _without_ a steep jump at 1000 kWh/mo (Gexa's "My Choice Plus 12").
I don't know which of those Energy Ogre's algorithm would recommend, but here anyway you have the informed choice.
Hope that helps.

(Note: Edited later to fix gross typos on the non-stair-stepped alternative plan.)

Thanks. Just signed up for the 24 month plan. I am pretty stingy with the electricity so it should be easy to get over 1,000 in those rare lower months.

Bout to cancel them.

Just got this form email where they didn't even fill in the provider or dates and started asking if I'd be willing to pay a deposit.

I expect a little better customer service if you're charging me 120 bucks a year.

It looks like your fixed rate contract with is about to end on, so we are in the process of switching you to the next provider. However, we have been able to do so as the providers with the best plan for you are requiring a refundable deposit to start service. If you would not consider paying a deposit, we can look into deposit waivers with your current provider's payment history and/or look at the Renewal Offers from Or Energy to lock in a fixed rate, as you will be susceptible to a variable month-to-month rate after the contract ends.

In order to do so we would need to log into your Our Energy customer portal to look at the available offers and compare them to your usage. Would you mind sharing your current login information in order to do so? You may also update them through our member portal at www.EnergyOgre.com/connect. Please advise.

Dang, all of the options EO has given me lately has been more than double my current rate. I go to PowertoChoose, and I'm getting options that all in are significantly cheaper than EO even factoring in the fees and such. Oh well.
