Has anyone actually experienced EO changing their plan before a contract was up?

This is what sold me, until they signed me up for a 12 month plan and I was able to find a better one within 5 minutes of searching. Whenever I called to ask them, they still couldnt find that plan. So I canceled, called Gexa, and signed up for the plan myself.

Just a reminder, if you are on EO, you should still do your own homework. It's nice to have someone to handle all the contracts and stuff, but I wouldnt 100% count on them to find the best plan for you.

Rule Number 32 send me your name and let me look up your account. I offered that a couple of weeks ago and you didn't respond. Text it to 713-208-8702. We will give all your money back if what you say is accurate.

I just got done switching my providers in a matter of 20-30min. I used texaspowerguide.com & awesomepowertexas.com to input my historical data and both sites spit out the same best plan for me.

I'm not dogging the Energy Orge product, but just know that there are FREE options out there for looking up better plans in a very efficient manner. I have zero affiliations with anyone in the industry, I just prefer to keep an extra $120/yr in my pocket if I can.

Just got signed up with Pioneer for a 12 month plan but it doesn't seem like a good plan for me. Have a few questions about it.

I may be doing the same. I will wait to see what EO does for me. Contract ends in late June and there are some very attractive 3-6 month plans out there. Hope EO doesn't put me in a 12 month.

We have 3-5 days to reject their enrollment choice, correct?

Meng,

I am not interested in trying to get my money back. I'm not mad about EO, just want other people to be aware that it is not the end-all-be-all of energy solutions. Everyone should be double checking to make sure it makes sense to spend $120 a year on it. There were quite a few of us on here with the same exact story about being signed up for a 12 month plan that made no sense for our usage. It wasnt just me.

For the others, yes, you have about 3 days to quit out of any program that EO signs you up for. I was more upset that they signed me up for a plan without asking if I liked it than anything else. All you have to do is call EO and they will connect you to the power company to cancel the plan you were signed up for.

since it sounds like there are aggies involved with EO, i'll chime in with my unsolicited opinion.

I use EO and like it, they've found rates for me I haven't been able to pull up. I also hate investigating energy companies mainly because I know their sole purpose is for billing and thus, confusing customers is profitable. The real energy providers are centerpoint and such and all these other companies simply tack on a fee and send people invoices... anyways, i'm obviously a good candidate for a customer for a service like EO.

That being said, a monthly service that signs you up for a 12 month contract sounds lazy. It would probably be better if they signed people up for the same rate but a shorter contract. People want to know their monthly subscription is for the company to do something more than once a year.

it's like a paying a pest control company quarterly when they only come out once a year even though the product may be good enough for an annual application.

This. I'm lazy as heck which is why this service is so dang appealing...but I'm not going to pay monthly forever for them to do a day's work (if that) and give me a 12 month contract.

Ags,

In response to several of your posts please review the updated market brief on why Energy Ogre is putting you in a 12 month plan. Pricing are on the rise and it looks like its here to stay. Be happy Energy Ogre is locking you into a 12 month plan.

But (honest question), what are they supposed to do if they truly believe that the 12 month plan will be best for you (shorter plans are more expensive, they believe rates are going to increase, etc)?

As some others have stated, I was put in a 12 month plan. On the surface that seems counter to the idea of EO. Mostly because of posts here, I was watching for this and took a quick look around when I got the notice, utilizing the common resources online. I found nothing as good as what EO put me into. Could there be something out there that is better? Sure. Am I interested in searching for it? No.

I have confirmed the savings I had last year with EO. It was substantial. I am willing to assume they know more than me about the energy rate trends. As their process is automated, I am willing to assume they are not putting me into a 12 month plan because they are lazy, but because the algorithm suggests it is the best plan for now.

I am satisfied and not going to cancel. If you are willing to do more legwork and truly found something better, more power to you. But EO works for me and my checks so far.

Perhaps a 12-month plan might be appropriate if the market was expected to rise faster than the discount you get from successive 3-month plans. But EIA's projections for a 3% rise in 2017 (i.e. ~+0.2 c/kWh total) wouldn't seem to outweigh the >1.0 c/kWh discount commonly available with 3-month plans.

And even if a 12-month term did turn out to be best, I don't understand why Energy Ogre didn't put MrjonMan on one of the cheaper 12-month plans then available via PowerToChoose (see previous page of posts).

Mengland, since it sounds like you work for EO, can you please help clarify if there's something I'm overlooking? (Thanks!)

Energy Ogre digests all of the rates that are on Power to Choose daily. We scrub each one to see if it is constructed properly. By law each provider has to provide a document of how they constructed the rate. Many of them are bogus and not feasible for us to move into our system.

You are not buying a rate. You are buying a rate curve. Your ultimate rate depends on your usage. Which is why we pull your demand curve off your smartmeter. We mathematically find the appropriate supply curve to match your demand curve. Every demand curve is a little different.

90% in Texas overpay and either cant find the lowest rate or don't want to spend the time. Look at the end of the day we are a service to help the consumer. It's counterproductive for us to misrepresent the consumer. We saved 21.6 million for our customers last year. I am willing to help anyone on this board that I can.

Get me a cheaper plan! Ha

As stated above they did put me in a 12 month and after Z kindly ran the numbers for me, there seemed to be cheaper plans, nothing drastic though.

Sadly, with a wife 2wks away from giving birth, I let this sleep past my 3 day grace period and so that was that.

Between myself, my neighbor, and one of my good friends we have cumulatively saved 4-6,000 in 2 years. Ogre is also handling my churches contracts now and we are projected to save 10k this year. Glancing over this thread I'd say people that have signed up since I started this thread every together is easily pushing 100k saved so far

Yeah my second go round was with the same deal the spreadsheet gave me. It's a 12 month deal, but for the ease with of typing in a spreadsheet on an honor system $10, vs $10/mo perpetually, I may need to reconsider.

Meh, I've already proven to myself that I won't diligently pursue the lower rates on my own. Haven't done it for over two years knowing that I was paying too much.. The Ogre was a no-brainer for me.

Received a disconnect warning from Pioneer today for non-payment. Credit card on file is definitely good....so Energy Ogre apparently effed something up. This has happened before as well. Have a few weeks before they actually cut my power so will see if they get it cleaned up...but getting more and more annoyed at the level of service. Thought the point of this was so I didn't have to deal with this kind of stuff at all.

I liked the concept, but I checked with EO and they said they could maybe save me $50 over the next year. Sounds like I haven't done too bad using Power to choose, and the $120/year isn't really worth it right now
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have been using powertochoose for over 2 years now and I am coming up on my renew at end of this month but power to choose has all 9-36 month contracts now...there is one 3 month at 7.1 cents in my area. I guess that is why Energy Ogre is giving people the 12 month contracts because no one is offering 3-6 month anymore.
