I waited for one week post sign up. They took my call in about 5 minutes and placed me in a new plan while on the line. Started the new plan the next day

Give them a call. I think they are suffering growing pains. If you call them I bet it will speed things up.

We uploaded a copy of her most recent Reliant bill ($.129/kWh!) when going through their online setup. She's out of contract so that shouldn't be an issue either. She's in Katy so I'm assuming she falls under Centerpoint's service area so maybe that's the holdup, but the two posts above on 5.13.16 about similar delays and non response make me think that maybe something else is going on. I'd like my brother and uncle to also sign up but will wait to see how my mom's issue gets resolved first.

Nothing else going on. As someone suspected, they are simply small and working through growing pains.

I did email the president after my last post and he got right back to me. They are still working on automating systems completely. There are still some things that require some manual batch type work. He said they hoped to be rolling out these automatons over the next few weeks. And that they should help to eliminate these initial delays.

Reassuring to hear absolute.

I sent them my info Wednesday but have some time (two weeks) before my contract expires

Did a little more investigating and got a some clarification on what should be expected timewise.

Here is a very general process timeline model regarding initial signup. Communication is primarily designed to be through email for the basic process (though obviously you can and should call and talk to someone if needed.)

1. You sign up at the website portal.
2. You get your welcoming email.
3. *Important* you send in a copy of your current bill.
4. 2 - 4 business days they form plan of action for the best provider option for you. In my case, they recommended early cancellation so they contacted me.

Couple points.

Make sure you check your email filters, spam, and junk folders if you don't see the welcome email come in. Things can end up there.

If nothing is found there and that 2 - 4 business day window has passed, DEFINITELY call or email EO. As discussed earlier Energy Ogre is growing and developing these systems. We all know nothing is perfect and things can go wrong or slip sometimes. Reach out to EO if you feel that has happened.

When I signed up, before I became an authorized rep, my process worked pretty seamlessly as described above and everything was complete in 2 or 3 days.

*edited to make some corrections

If you dont get those confirmations, something is definitely wrong.

When I did it last week I was never asked to approve the option. How I knew I was enrolled was I got an email from Pennywise, welcoming me.

I also don't think a notification was sent saying they received my bill I uploaded. Since the upload never said confirmed, I also emailed it. Then I followed that up with a phone call the following day. They didn't respond to the email until after I'd been registered with Pennywise.

I love this service but I hate the fact that the market is so convoluted that I need this service

Just FYI - I am only 2 months in and happy so far, but I never received anything to "approve." I was simply switched from my previous provider to a new one.

Yes it seems that they just switch you. Which to me is not a problem since that's what I'm paying for, to get the lowest price and not have to worry about it.

I guess I was different because I had to approve paying an early cancelation penalty with my then current provider. Sorry.

You did get the welcome email though, correct?

I first submitted my information on May 9, and I've only received the Welcome email, and a support survey regarding the issue of not hearing back from them that I submitted May 17. I went to submit the survey saying my issue hadn't been addressed yet, but upon clicking I was informed my issue had been closed. Not a good impression so far.

My new deal with Startex (under Ogre) below. The savings come from the bill credits. 2000 kwh will cost me $118 including credits.

Average Price: 5.9 cents per kWh, based on 2000 kWh, includes the following:

Product Name: 6 Month Usage Bill Credit
Energy Charge: 4.2 /kWh
CNP Surcharge(s):
Distribution Charges: 3.8779 /kWh
Monthly Charges: 5.47 $/Month
Term: 6
Early Termination Fee: $50.00
Document Language Preference: English
A Minimum Usage Fee of $ 0.00 will apply if usage is less than or equal to 999 KWh in a billing period.
A Bill Credit for usage greater than or equal to 1000 kWh in a billing period: 35.00$
An additional Bill Credit for usage greater than or equal to 2000 kWh in a billing period: 15.00$

I signed up for the same plan but it's not $118. You have to pay a line fee since oncor owns the power lines. Its around 3.06 cents per kWh. Therefore your total is 2000 * (.059+.0306) = $179.20. Now if you use more than 2000 kWh you get the rebate so that will subtract.

Still a good deal IMHO.

For 2000 kwh I calculate:

$.042 c / kwh energy charge
$.038779 c / kWh TDU delivery charge

=$161.558
+
$5.47 fixed TDU delivery charge per month
=$167.028
- $35.00 (1000 kwh) credit
- $15.00 (2000 kwh) additional credit
=$117.03

Divided by 2000 kwh, this amount matches the rate Ogre has calculated ($.059). There are no other charges listed anywhere else so hopefully there are none.

Bumping to give my experience. I was quoted $1000+ savings during the signup process back in April. I joined and went ahead and paid the full $120. When the real offers were sent to me the savings were almost exactly what my cancellation fees would have been on my old account ($150 - $200 savings). I waited until today to get a new offer but nothing came through. I called and cancelled the account and was told to expect the full refund to my card in a few days.

I am disappointed in the offers but am pleased with the customer service received. I will give the Ogre's a chance again when I am no longer under contract.

From what I can tell, if you have a good idea of your electricity usage, understand the energy fact sheets on powertochoose, and are diligent in looking for the best plan, Energy Ogre may not save you any money. However, if that does not describe you, they can save you a considerable amount by doing the homework for you.

I'm not dissatisfied yet. If I break even and don't have to do the powertochoose work that's good enough for me. I'll continue to monitor.

Yep. It's a service. I hate shopping plans and reading through every single TOS sheet and facts sheet.
