I'm surprised none of you guys are talking about Tyler White. He really came on last season in AAA hitting .362 and a 1.026 OPS. At 25 years old he seems ready to move up to the majors. If not at 1st base then he could compete at 3rd. I was not impressed with Valbuena.

I guess I worded that wrong. It just seems like he is getting overlooked compared to Reed.

That's true. It would be pretty cool to see them both manning the corners at some point this year.
Tyler White will be an MLB everyday regular at some point. Not sure who with though. Hit tool finds a way.

Was going to say the same thing. I don't think he starts his MLB career with us. With Reed presumably manning 1B for the future there's just no room for him. I think they end up looking elsewhere for 3B (or maybe moving Correa over once Bregman is ready but that's a whole different discussion).
He's a valuable enough prospect to include in a trade with another piece to get a quality MLB ready player.
At this rate, why not DH him if Gattis has another piss poor year?
Wouldn't shock me at all to see Reed/White as 1B/DH at some point in the year if Gattis/Singleton suck.
White and Reed are not on the 40 man roster, and this club has shown a history of treating those spots like they are pure gold. However, they expect to compete from day 1 this year, so I think they will loosen up their treatment of the 40 man.

I think White will be a decent to good MLBer, but I have a hard time thinking he can produce the numbers Gattis did last year.

I don't really see White as a power guy but more of a player that's good at getting on base. That might rule out DH.

White will be a very different hitter than Gattis. Will walk a bunch and not strike out a lot. Not much pop, but very high contact rates.

Would be nice to have another high OBP guy on the team so we don't hit 800 solo homers.
You only put guys on the 40 man roster when you intend to actually call them up or if you need to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Until then there is no need to put them on the 40 man roster. Reed and White have not been eligible for the Rule 5 draft yet so need to make that move at this time.
