Hopefully the Astros will repair my broken heart that A&M football has caused

This would be really stupid to pursue Chapman when we just acquired a legit closer, and not to mention both corner infield spots are still incredibly mediocre to put it mildly

He's legit. Only making 8.5 million next year. Shouldn't give up a whole lot for a rental though.

Chapman made $8 mil this year. Mlbtraderumors has his projected arbitration number at $12.9 mil for next year.

Would it really be that dumb?

He's cheap now with domestic issues and imagine Giles setting up for Chapman.

That's a salty back end of the BP.

Knowing Hinch, he would definitely be a manager that would rotate who he used to close, depending on who was batting.

It would certainly be salty, but we still have some bigger issues to address IMO

Hi guys. Been gone a while.

Do we have any guys in the minors that might be able to come out of the bullpen this year?

Is it March yet?

March brings us closer to football season, which I cannot handle.

  • Adam Lind isn't much of a defensive first baseman, Law writes, but for theMariners, he's still an upgrade over the recently traded Mark Trumbo. Platooning the left-handed Lind with the right-handed Jesus Montero would be a good plan, Law suggests. The Brewers, meanwhile, got three young pitchers who are possible future relievers. None of them are outstanding talents, but Milwaukee did well to get something in return for a player they didn't really need in 2016.

We should have made that trade. Low cost. Would be a top 3 hitter in our line up immediately.

My only problem with Lind is that he's awful against lefties. Who would we have platooned him with? Marwin is the only righty who could play first. Unless I'm drawing a blank on someone. Valbuena and Singleton are both bad against lefties as well. Even AJ Reed.

I don't see how anybody with any baseball knowledge at all can fault Hinch for not playing singleton more. He has never done anything that has led anyone to believe that he will be a productive big league player. Also carter did warm up late in the year and his bat had to be in the lineup
mazag08

Carter was in the worst part of his swoon when Singleton was demoted, and Singleton had just begun to string together productive games (during a time where he came to work like everyone else and had no idea if he was playing or where he would be in the batting order).

I'm willing to give Jon the first two months to show signs that he is progressing in the right direction. He's still very young and there is plenty of time for him.

If he fails, then start the Reed show.

Astros seem to be content with Singleton, Tyler White, and AJ Reed go at it for 1st base.

I am ok with this plan because I think one of those three will be productive.

If by the all-star break, 1B is still a gaping hole, add someone through a trade.

Lets hope 2/3 work out so one can DH. Gattis should not be the everyday DH.

You're giving him a lot longer leash than me. If he bats .200 again in Spring Training, I'd be considering other options. Hopefully White or Duffy can step up and perform, with Valbuena shifting across the diamond as needed. My guess is that Reed starts at AAA no matter how good he looks this spring.

I just want to say that besides the few that obsess constantly over Hinch this group of Astro fans is fairly sharp.

This lineup could use a Jeff Keppinger. Absolutely crushes lefties and could play 1B/3B. I don't know if there is one out there...

Agreed on Gattis, but I think a Gattis/Tucker platoon at DH could actually turn out to be a plus because of splits against lefthanders and righthanders.

Gattis is due some positive regression. Not sure how much if any will occur, but some of my comrades at TCB much smarter than I am thinks he has a big year in 2016.

I sure hope so. I had too high of hopes going into 2015 with respect to him.

They also put way too much stock in regression.

Maybe the rest of his career to this point was the positive part, and this is what he really is?

It would be nice if we could use Gattis as the second catcher and not have to occupy another roster spot with a poor hitting catcher. With him behind the dish, we would actually be a better offensive team.

During his two seasons with Atlanta, Gattis had a 23% caught stealing percentage, so he'd be an upgrade over Conger in that regard. And with a guy like Tucker on the roster, it mitigates the loss of Gattis due to injury.

I just think that roster spot would be better served by another bat or another bullpen arm to keep from wearing those guys down this year.

Keppinger was the man. But without looking at the stats at all, I feel like Marwin would compare pretty well with Kep at least in the second half of 2015.

How about a poll?

Favorite Astro utility man..

A. Marwin Gonzalez
B. Jeff Keppinger
C. Mike Lamb
D. Jose Vizcaino
E. Eric Bruntlett
F. Tim Bogar
G. Bill Spiers

For me it's Bogar and Vizcaino.

Spiers for me; he hit near .300 with Houston playing 5 positions regularly. I love late 90s baseball, I can sit on YouTube for hours getting caught up in these:

Jason Heyward got PAID. 8 years 184 mil with the Cubs. He had one good season in St. Louis, good for him.
