The only thing that worries me about this amazing streak is that I hope it can continue through the playoffs.

I think the most impressive thing is that this is being done not by playing the veterans a ton of minutes, but with a balanced offense with basically everyone touching the ball, and nobody getting over-played.

So I know it isn't Pop's style but any chance we rest the big three against GS and set up a possible death blow Thursday against OKC? I think the spurs would still have a shot against GS even if resting the big three.

If the spurs win Thursday against okc then we can pretty much start resting everyone and still get the 1 seed. Of course with this streak perhaps more rest and rust could actually hurt.

Every player Pop intends to give minutes to in the playoffs needs to play at least 25 minutes a game from here on out, with maybe one game off for the older guys. Win, lose, doesn't matter. Everyone needs to play every game and run their playoff sets. These guys are world class athletes and in the best physical shape they could be in. Now is not the time to stop playing. This is the time keep the motor on cruise control. If we happen to win these last couple games, well that's even better.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pop played everyone against OKC, but very light minutes regardless of how the game is playing out. On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me at all for Pop to rest the big 3 and use that game to end the win streak.

So basically what I'm saying is, I have no clue what's going to happen.

From Spurs' report:

quote:
It was the latest conquest in a streak that has seen the Spurs just win 18 games, but dominate in the process. As Sports Illustrated’s Ben Golliver noted on Twitter during the game, the Spurs are leading the NBA during their streak in no fewer than 16 statistical categories:

* Points scored/100 possessions (112.5)
* Points allowed/100 (96.5)
* Net rating (plus 16.1)
* Field goals made (41.9 per game)
* Field-goal percentage (49.3)
* 3-point percentage (43.9)
* Effective field-goal percentage (55.3)
* True field-goal percentage (58.8)
* Defensive rebounds (36.2)
* Assists (28.4)
* Assist/turnovers (2.03)
* Assist percentage (67.8)
* Blocked shots (6.5)
* Points (111.2)
* Point differential (plus 16.6)
* 3-pointers allowed (5.9)

I disagree with this. We have seen the Spurs run out of gas before and the Spurs have proven over time that they respond very well to rest and extended time off. (10+ days off between playoff rounds last year etc.) This is the same song and dance for the big 3 and the Spurs and Pop should rest them whenever possible from here on out. In some respects, the first round would be the time where they can use those games to get ready for the grind of the later rounds. Nobody is going to knock out the Spurs in round 1. We have also seen players get hurt in meaningless games down the stretch (Manu broken arm). It's not worth it. The Spurs can condition in practice and use round 1 to get in better physical shape for the later rounds.

Would definitely be incredible if they can keep this going and not just win it all, but crush some teams on their way to the title. Just a bunch of unselfish guys, some of which are extremely talented, moving the ball around and making the other team look silly at times!

I agree with Sher. This isn't some crew of rookies and new free agents that are still trying to get their stuff figured out.

According to Skip Bayless this 18 game win streak is not impressive. But the Clippers are impressive because the won 16 of 18. "He needs to see more from the Spurs." Every game when they beat a good team was a "pay back" game. He just said they only have 2 good wins in the streak.

How they get slept on every year is beyond me.

That's odd because Skip is usually the biggest Spurs cheerleader on ESPN.

Skips only job is to play devils advocate. Most of the time it's more popular to over look the Spurs, so he looks like a supporter. Now that talking heads can't ignore us, he has to try and minimize what they're accomplishing.

ESPN ranked the Spurs as the top front office in the NBA. Not really a surprise here.

Top 10:
Spurs
Heat
Mavs
Pacers
Bulls
Celtics
Rockets
Thunder
Trail Blazers
Warriors

TNT with some nice words for SA during the Rockets game.

Also talking about Harden selling any contract, being a great actor.

This.

I am truly astounded by the number of people who don't grasp that about him and most of the other personalities on ESPN and other sports networks. They're playing out schticks to promote discussion, that's it.

Joey Crawford will be in the house tonight for the GSW game.

In regards to tonight's game or potentially facing them in the playoffs?

Win or lose tonight if the Spurs can somehow draw Golden State in the second round of the playoffs I would be ecstatic. They are nowhere near the team they were last season. I don't see them being able to upset anyone round 1 though.
Ulrich

The Spurs solved them last year. Not worried for a series, but they could easily jump up and win a game, especially if we don't play Green or Leonard.
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not worried one bit about the Warriors. In fact, about anyone in the west except OKC. Clippers make me a tad nervous, but not much.

Any chance Pop doesn't win COY again this year?
Ganondorf
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yes, for the same reason he's only won twice (I think). There's coaches out there with over performing teams that will win ahead of Pop even though not a single pundit will say they are a better coach.

COY is a worse award than All Star.

In the West the only team that I believe will give us a run is OKC. We've solved the other contenders. I don't think Houston contends this year primarily because of coaching and turnovers. You can't win multiple series with 16 turnovers a game. The only team worse is Philadelphia. Dallas, Portland and Memphis aren't going far.

Warriors can't sustain high percentage shooting and Clippers seem to wet the bed against us every year.

Just tonight. I don't worry about jump shooting teams over a series, but for single games, Curry and Thompson can always get hot.

Marc Stein tweeted that the Spurs will sign Damion James to a 10 day contract from the D league. Not bad for the 15th roster spot to end the year.
Ganondorf

He's 6'7" and a perpetual d-league guy who can't catch on with a team. He'll likely never see the floor and end up back with his team again.

And he's a longhorn. We have 1 too many of those already.

I mean he's the last guy on our bench on a 10 day contract. He's only playing in garbage time, which between blowout wins and Pop resting guys down the stretch, he's playing at best a couple minutes late in the game.

Another day at the office. Pop is going to be mad if they win this one too. He'll just throw the okc game and take a fine.
