Has anyone read what will happen if Iran does not participate? Are there teams on the bubble they just rotate in?

I don't think anyone truly knows. FIFA is probably hoping this all ends and they don't have to do anything. The appropriate thing I guess would be to promote Iraq into that spot since they were the first Asian Fed. team out, but they may qualify next week anyways if they beat Bolivia. Next AFC up would be United Arab Emirates I think.

I did find it funny that Iran said their players can't go to places that are hostile to Iran, but then Iran is also killing its own citizens by the thousands (regardless of the US-Iran conflict).

relevant to me at least, FIFA just released the first look at Volunteer uniforms (I'm volunteering in KC)

It will include the following:

• 3 tshirts
• pants
• shorts
• a light jacket
• a hat
• Crossbody bag
• Adidas shoes
• 3 pairs of socks
• 3 host city velcro patches for the the different layers and bag

You just have accept that FIFA is corrupt and will try and make as much money as possible no matter what they have to do.

To get that uniform, they request volunteers work 8 shifts (6-8 hours each) over the course of the tournament. That uniform is peanuts compared to what they save in labor costs.

Should FIFA be paying people to work the games? Absolutely. But I'm not going to complain as I knew what I was getting into when I signed up. They also have additional merch that you get as you complete shifts. It's an incentive to keep people coming back after getting their uniforms.

Like I said before, I wanted to blame FIFA for going cheap here, but I like the idea of volunteers here in the US. Around the world, you could make a safe bet that event staff would have decent soccer knowledge/appreciation… here in the US? Not so much, unless FIFA also wanted to invest time/money in screening applicants. Volunteering fixes that and ensures people who love soccer will be working the events.

That being said, I am glad y'all get an impressive amount of swag.

2 new WC rules of competition.

1. Covering your mouth when confronting another player or official can get you a red card. Can't keep those lip readers out of a job forever!

2. Walking off the pitch to protest a call is an auto red. Thanks Senegal and ANC. It used to be that forfeit meant "we quit". Now it means "give us a minute we might be back". So they had to close that loophole. Now you walk and everyone gets carded out below the minimum. Can't come back from that now can you Senegal?
