Lockhart -- Willie Ellison, 8 yrs in pros as RB, set one game rushing record in 1971

Interesting point: He never played for Lockhart HS. Played for the Negro high school in Lockhart (Carver High Green Hornets), integrated in 1965.

Too small at the time to have football. The first football game I watched in person from start to finish was at Kyle.

Torrey Pines HS. Played with John Lynch, was one of his offensive lineman. He was recruited as a QB to Stanford, later converted to safety.

He is in the football HOF and baseball HOF for being the Florida Marlins 1st ever draft pick as a pitcher.

Poth High School -

Thomas "Tommy" Alvin Janik, longtime resident of Poth, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the age of 69. Tommy was born September 6, 1940, the son of Alvin Janik and Edna Flieller Janik. He graduated from Poth High School, Class of 1959, and was a retired professional football player. He played defense and punted for a year with Texas A&M University before transferring to Texas A&I University, where he played the following three years. He began his professional football career with the Denver Broncos, followed by being the Buffalo Bills back-up punter for four years, after which time he joined the New England Patriots, where he helped his team out-punt their opposition. Tommy had 25 interceptions in the AFL, tying the league lead with ten at Buffalo in 1967, along with running back six for touchdowns. Tommy once intercepted a pass from Joe Namath and ran it back 100 yards for a touchdown. Tommy retired in 1970, and owned Shipley's Donuts in Bryan, Texas, from 1970-1981.

Mt. Pleasant - Chris Campbell was a linebacker that was much younger than me - played in college at Miami - was killed in a car wreck while in college. Probably the player we have with the most potential. We had another kid at OU who was in a car wreck that tore up his knee and ended his career, but I can't remember his name.

We've had several others play in college and Barry Minter went pro.

From way back in my era - Maury Buford was the punter for tceh, then played for Chicago and was in the super bowl shuffle video.

Another San Antonio John Marshall alum:

Priest Holmes (was Anthony Holmes back in high school.)

ND Kalu who had a long career in the NFL was a senior with Priest in '92, that team loss to Permain in the state championship, which was shown live on ESPN.

Brazoswood, I would have to say Troy Neel who did go to A&M but never did anything on the gridiron post high school and eventually left the program. Then played MLB for the A's for some time before disappearing for a number of years until he resurfaced wanted for failure to pay child support. What a guy.
