Diet.

I'm being somewhat of a dramatic bi^ch though. I'm in the best shape I've been in a few years and have flipped a decent amount of fat lbs for muscle lbs. I drank more wine than normal last week and my dinner's weren't the best - I blame my wife.

I'm 204.5 today; I fluctuate +-5 lbs during the week and seem to hit my high point for the week on Monday's.

I walk A LOT, I ride my mountain bike on the street. I have an Indoor rower and I have started putting pieces together slowly for a CrossFit box in my garage. I try to drink five 30 oz of water or more a day. ...and Intermittent Fasting.

I have cut back on Alcohol a lot.

I am also eating less quantity and better foods, but this is where I can improve the most.

Seeing 229 this morning was a HUGE morale boost. I am going to have to refocus to get down to 219.

I also use My Fitness Pal to track food intake and have a Garmin watch and participate in frequent challenges to keep me moving.

Was stuck at 223 for most of the week, realized I was snacking a little too much. I wasn't eating anything off plan, just too much of it (particularly Larabars). Realized it, fixed it, hopefully back on the downward trend. Excited to get into the 210s this week! I have 28 weeks left to lose 23 pounds and hit my goal, should be a fun ride.

I have had the same challenges/realizations over the last couple of days. Only lost two pounds in the last ten days....at 95 lost since 12/4. Decided to really put my nose to the wheel again starting this morning. Fathers day was a bit tough. I just need to "keep on keeping on" and get back on solid track.

I'm on Day 97 of my Whole30, this is the number one thing that helped me prepare emotionally: https://whole30.com/revised-timeline/
I want to try this for July. I mentioned it to the wifey and she snarled at me like Cujo. I took it as that's a No to doing it together.

So I am just browsing the Whole 30 website and found this recipe. As an example we make this recipe a couple of times a month. Looks like a minor tweak and my recipe will pass. My question is do I need to use the coconut oil and aminos?

Some of the portions are different, but that shouldn't matter.

Ingredients: Whole 30 Version
  • 1/2 head green cabbage
  • 1 onion
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 4 green onions
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil < ?
  • 1 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 c coconut aminos < ?
  • 2 tbsp. sesame oil
  • coarse sea salt, to taste

Ingredients: My Recipe
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 6 cups coleslaw mix or shredded cabbage
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • coarse sea salt, to taste
Am I on the right path here? I can eat eggs so I should be good.

Whole 30 is really good. One of the better plans to follow and I notice almost nothing different about it when we eat W30 meals. I would buy the cookbook and just try it.

Does the pork sausage you get have sugar added? If so, no. Does the Cole slaw have sugar added? If so, no. Other than that you should be fine.

My beef with W30 is it puts so much focus on what you can't eat. It worked for me but it's certainly not for everyone. My relationship didn't survive it.

I started 9 days ago at 234.4. Am now at 226.8.

Hoping to get to 222 by the end of this month and 215 by the end of July.

Primary reason for weight gain of 20 pounds over the past 4 months resulted from a significant increase in adult beverage consumption due to job loss in February.

Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.

I've hit 228 this January -- last year I was in the same range, but I believe I was lower bodyfat.

Goal: 200; drop 20 minutes from my half marathon time to 1:55.

It's going to be tough the first half of the year -- but might get easier in the 2nd half with a more normal routine.

I figure why not one more regular reminder?

Update:
I think my weight went up in February to 230+, but when we got sent home during COVID, I was able to start running my dogs daily and change eating habits. I weighed myself in late April and was disappointed at 222, and haven't really ran since early May.

That said, my eating habit change has held (we're trying to save money, eat at home, etc. due to buying a new home and not selling the old one yet--and frozen margaritas have been hard to come by). Last week I really started to notice my clothes loosening up and got on the scale to something around 215!

Let's get the flywheel rolling! It'd be really cool to see what happens if I can start getting some workouts in!

I'm sure cutting out the beverages will help....at least I hope so. Quitting cold turkey is tough! I was also drinking 2-3 cans of sprite a day to complement the booze.

Dropped another .8 to an even 226 this morning. My question to forum members....if I stick with the changes, what is the likelihood that I could continue weight loss at an average of .75 pounds per day over the next 30 days. Its been 4-5 years since I have been at that weight level.

Your weight is going to fluctuate and 3/4 lbs a day loss requires a daily calorie deficit of 2625.

I think that would be hard to maintain. Slow and steady wins the race.

This has been posted by other people:

Do what you find enjoyable and be consistent. If you don't like your exercise regimen or your food & beverages choices you won't stick with it.

Without doing something extreme like Whole30 it would be really tough to lose that much. Hell even with Whole30 it would be hard to lose that much. I lost 23 pounds in January following Whole30 and that was starting at 296 pounds and included quite a bit of the initial water weight loss.

Switch from Sprite to flavored sparkling water and it'll help even more though. Give yourself 60 days to hit your number and cut back the booze maybe not entirely but instead switch to neat or on rocks instead of mixed drinks (Jack isn't great for you but mixing it with Coke is even worse).

Did a little research and my "beverage" intake has been 1,000 calories per day.

I would be very happy with a 2-3 lb a week weight loss.

wouldn't we all!

It's crazy to think about what food and advertising has done to our country.

I am 53 and when I was growing up we had one maybe two overweight kids in school. As in all grades on that campus.

Now look at school pictures, the skinny kids are in short supply.

I am not blaming anyone, but my elbow and mouth, for my weight.

I am learning to eat so much less and better now and miraculously surviving and having the energy to exercise my tail off.

I have to ask myself is food fuel or fun? Do I live to eat or eat to live?

I am still learning new and better behaviors and improving my decisions.

It's a struggle...

I'm cheating and using today's weigh-in as opposed to yesterdays because I was weighed in at the doctor's office with clothes on so the number won't be apples to apples.

Was a good day yesterday for my full annual physical. All of my numbers have improved and a spot on my face I was worried about is benign. My Vitamin D was really, really low last year and it's now normal with the vitamin supplement and getting in sun more this year (COVID walks).

My lung capacity seems to suck right now though. I gave out pretty quickly on my EKG/Stress test despite the fact that I've done more cardio in the last 6 months than I have in the last few years. I'm hoping that is due to me having to wear a mask and air quality sucks right now. Anyway, need to get that back to what it should be.

Whole30 Day 1:

Food is expensive. Holy Chit this Whole30 compliant food is expensive! I bought five Whole30 compliant salad dressings and the Primal Kitchen Chipotle Lime & Garlic Aioli Mayo. Got robbed at gunpoint buying the sugar free bacon. I hope it doesn't taste like chit. Enough veggies to eat over the next five days with my various dressings. Oh and four dozen eggs...

I roasted a chicken and made a large tub of chicken salad with the Chipotle Lime Mayo. Not gonna lie it's pretty kick ass. The wife wanted to know if she could take some to work tomorrow for lunch. Uh NO!

I have informed everyone at home and work what I am doing hoping that helps when I don't eat out or what they're eating. 1/2 way through day one. I am going for 31 days of July.

Today's Food:
5 oz scrambled eggs with 2 oz of Avocado slices and 1 oz of salsa
two cups of hot green tea
One roasted chicken thigh and leg
For dinner I am planning on a salad

Jogged 4.3 miles this morning

I'm disappointed that my favorite hot sauce has Guar in it! What's Guar you ask? It's a legume that is used to thicken and suspend liquids. Had to look it up. ARGH!

30 Days to go!
