When I was younger in college in my "lifted truck" stage, I'd work as much as I could to buy my truck accessories and would detail my 4-6 yr old truck every week.

Now, 6-8 yrs later I make a heck of a lot more and haven't even washed/vacuumed my '13 ram since november, priorities change drastically as you get older.

Buy an older used vehicle, and fix it up gradually, and inexpensively. You don't have to get all retarded with your upgrades to make something practical and still enjoyable.

Wanting a GMT400 reg cab short bed 4.3 5 speed to use as a daily driver.

I have **** laying around I could throw at it if I want to, otherwise just detail it and keep it nice and clean.

Welp it seems I lost the transmission...went from perfection to no forward gears or the ability to move it in neutral.

I'm first going to see if it's under warranty and maybe fix if it is or if it's relatively cheap. At least I have an extra car this go around.

If not it's time to get a trans that will hold up to a boosted 6.oh

Circle D!

Or, if you want one shipped that'll take everything you can throw at it, RPM out of Indiana. They did my TBSS trans, and since then, they've stepped up a few more levels for the old slushboxes.

No body damage, needs new corner lights, headlights, and to buff one of the parking lamps. Some Plasti-Dip got scraped off the bumper when the grille was dragged across it.

Sounds like the neighbor is covering the cost.

The top of this grille was cracked and the little pieces in the middle were also.

What I see is I'm getting a new grille and better fitting headlights out of all this haha

Nice! Just reacquired my '91 C1500 step side from HS so I have LS swap on the brain. Of course is has a ton of other stuff that needs attention as well...

You should definitely do it.

I almost bought a LQ9 last week to build for boost and swap it in, but I'm just going to build up the 5.3 and boost the piss outta it. Replacing a blown 5.3 will be much cheaper than blowing a 6.0.

Pretty much just going to clean up the engine, Isky turbo cam, ARP rod bolts, and head studs

Apparently, BigRob didnt like all my questions on the other thread and its more pertinent here anyway.

What was your criteria for heads that lead you to the 243 heads. As I said in the other thread, if you werent specifically looking for 243 heads from an LS6 to get the sodium filled valves and different valve springs, then I would think 799 heads were easier to come by and probably cheaper.

Reason I ask, I have been contemplating (not that it would happen anytime soon) an LS budget build for the Z06 instead of molesting the LS6. I would think you could find an iron block and some cheaper heads that would more than make up for the extra weight.

I was looking for 243's or 799's since they flow better than the 706's I have now.

Surprisingly, I see more 243's for sale rather than 799's. There shouldn't be any price difference between the two since they have the same specs. $500 for brand new heads isn't bad.

I'm just building for a N/A application and will be throwing a lil somethin somethin on top

All LS engines have aluminum heads except for a few of the early year LQ4's

The guy I bought the heads from had a L33 block. Those are an aluminum block 5.3 with flat top pistons that came with 799 heads. I'm contemplating trading DA PUBLICAN for that block.

Not at all my good friend. I just wanted to post a picture of salt, since we're talking "sodium" and most people conflate the two.

I had been abreast of this purchase already.

And, for the L33 (from wiki):

quote:
The Vortec 5300 L33 (VIN code "B") is an aluminum block version of the LM7, and was referred to as the Vortec 5300 HO in marketing materials. However it should be noted that the L33 uses a flat top piston from the 4.8L instead of the standard dish piston found in the LM7. It also uses 799 cylinder heads, which are identical to the 243 casting found on the LS6 and LS2 with the exception to the Corvette spec valve springs, and hollow stem exhaust valves on the 2002-2004 LS6. This combination increased the compression from 9.5:1 to 10.0:1. Also the L33 had a specific camshaft not shared with any other engine, with lobe lift of 7.2 mm, 193 degrees of intake and exhaust duration, and a 116 degree lobe separation angle. As a result power increased by 15 hp (11 kW), to 310 hp (230 kW) and 335 lbft (441 Nm). It was only available on extended cab 4WD pickup trucks. Only 25% of trucks made in 2005 had the L33 engine.

Awwww yeah!

Didnt know about the aluminum L33 5.3. That's an intriguing combination. Although, for my application, Im looking for cubes moreso than boost. So I would think the iron block would be cheaper and more robust when you get that thin on the cylinder walls. Maybe I'm over thinking it...the aluminum blocks are iron sleeved anyhow.

But I really dont want to molest my LS6. So, at some point i can swap ls6 back in and say unmolested and its only been driven to church on sundays

This.

That was my original thinking too. but if i could steal a 4.8/5.3 with 799 heads, bore and stroke the sheet out of it, i might be cheaper than a lq4/9. Especially if cubes were my only concern (>6.0) and I would do the same work to an lq4/lq9 .
