A 6L80E would be flipping sweet but I don't think my minimum wage job would be sufficient funding

I'm looking for an '01+ trans and so far it's looking like a minimum of $600 for one. I'm going to talk to one of my guys and see if he can find one, he always comes across awesome deals

I totally forgot that the 4L80E will make my truck feel like a slug with 3.42 gears...

Why? Lighter truck, and the 4L80E won't crap out on you if you hammer it.

Huh. I didn't realize that the 6L80E was a clutch-to-clutch transmission ... at least that's what google keeps saying. Is it really?

And yeah, the price for those seems exorbitant. But it'd be sweet to have in a pickup.

With the first tall gear of the 4L80E it will definitely hurt performance off the line. They sound great for hauling arse on the top end but down low they struggle, I was planning on a Yank 3200 stall when I get a cam but I may be putting that stall in before I get a cam to compensate for the loss of off the line performance.

Talked to my mentor and he said that gears would be more beneficial than a stall so I'm looking at getting at least some 3.90 gears

I had a Yank SSTB3600 on my TBSS. It would launch so hard my sunroof cover would slam back.

Of course, I had a lot more than a 5.3, but still ....GREAT TC.

So I may be going with 4.11 gears and a valuetrac, which is basically a truetrac knockoff. I've been reading up on them for the past hour and haven't seen one ill review.

Before a site member discount, the gears, master install kit, and valuetrac would be $495 shipped

So I got a little bit of work done, I was able to hook up my o2 sensors without extensions thank God.

After trying 5 different belt sizes I was able to find one that fit, I could get one probably .25" longer next time because I definitely had to work that belt to get it on the tensioner. The tensioner was maxed out and only had the edge of the belt on half of the tensioner pulley so I spun the pulley to get the belt to roll on track.

Once I got that done I overfilled the power steering pump and by that time it was time for me to shag ass from Baytown to Galveston so I could get to class on time.

Next time I get to work on it I'll be taking fluid out of the ps pump, making sure the belt doesn't jump, install the e-fans, finish wiring up the e-fan harness, and then getting some coolant in it to make sure the cooling system is working.

Not a mess of loose wires now...

A few temporary things are shown here, first the couplers on the air intake...sadly those are what it came with. Who the hell decided they should be blue? Dunno, but they are a dumbass. The second thing are the way the e-fans are mounted...I don't have the time to make a nice bracket to mount them right now so this will just have to do for now. On the left side you can see a few loose wires, the majority of those are for the e-fan harness, the rest of them I just ran out of wire loom.

All I really need to do is wire up the fan harness, cover a few more wires, tighten up the air intake, put hood and grille back on, and then it's off to the exhaust shop I go.

Word, it'll probably be a while till I get gears though. Since I was finally able to get my truck warmed up I was able to check the trans fluid...1 quart of ATF later it was going in reverse immediately.

Doing the fan wiring right now, not as bad as I expected it would be.

I just took it around the block with a scanner hooked up, the pcm isn't commanding the trans...so hopefully it's just that.

I would love to punch whoever thought it was a good idea to put the oil pressure sending unit on the back of the block in their damn eso****us
Silvy

I believe I fixed the oil leak...I took it for a cruise all the way down Seawall and saw no drops after a few stops. I didn't break 2k RPM though so hopefully it's good when the oil pressure is higher. It sure is a blast to drive though...once I hit 2nd gear it's time to start slowing down so I'm not breaking the speed limit too bad.

So now my question is, what's the best way to get oil stains off a driveway?

amidoinitrite?

A quick vid for y'all...only revved to 2500 RPM. I don't want a sound ordinance violation ticket lol

Well after going through three serpentine belts in three days I took the A/C compressor/f-body belt tensioner off and replaced it with a truck belt tensioner.

After doing that and taking it on a test drive the shifts didn't seem right...well after further testing I concluded the trans is starting to slip. I know a guy who builds transmissions in Florida and he has already quoted me $1400 for a built 4L60e shipped and all I would need is a torque converter so I may as well get a 3200 stall from Circle D while I'm at it

Circle D: your circle, their D.

Sucks...can't be over 1800 RPM when the trans is about to shift or else it doesn't shift...just revs.

And I'm broke as sh*t, going to be living off sammiches for a while.

I wouldn't think the 5.3 and the 5.7 have that much of a different torque curve where the transmission wouldn't behave similarly.
Silvy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
5.3 has a lot more power over the 5.7 TBI...I lost overdrive tonight while driving to my parents place.
Silvy

Well I'm going to have a local shop build and install trans, going to get stall, flexplate/bolts, and a trans cooler from Circle D, and AN fittings and braided hose from Summit for trans cooler lines.

Total cost ~$3,200
BigRobSA
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You going for a fully built trans (is yours the 700r4 or a 4Lxx?) or just certain hardened parts inside?

Yes, blown transmissions suck. I broke a fully built 4l70 in the FailBlazer.....just driving normal*.

*Of course, it was after about eleventy-thousand launches....but still.
