SIAP, saw this in Community Impact - anyone tried it yet?

Quote:

Triple fusion restaurant Nova Eatery now open in College Station
An all new American, Latin and Asian fusion restaurant has opened in College Station.

Nova Eatery moved into the former Asian Market near the Texas Avenue HEB this spring.

What Nova offers: Nova Eatery's menu is a blend of hamburgers, seafood, tacos and burritos, pastas and sandwiches. It also offers "dirty sodas," which are soft drinks mixed with different syrups and creams.

According to the restaurant's website, along with diverse menu options and artisan-crafted tacos, the restaurant believes in "high-quality food and the sweetest moments of life."

Before you go: Nova Eatery has been open in College Station since mid-June, according to its social media page. Just off Harvey Road and Texas Avenue, the eatery is located close to Texas A&M University and next to HEB.
  • Opened June 12
  • 1713 Park Place, College Station

How is Tad's these days? I haven't been in a while and see mixed reviews.

. We need to start a list of restaurants that do this. So far, I have:

Tad's
1860 Italia
Holleman Tavern

Any others?

Add Napa Flats to the list.

Finally tried Madden's today. Solid food and service and maybe because it's happy hour, prices were insanely reasonable. The salmon tostada was excellent. Very happy to put it into the rotation.

I am not far from shipwreck. You should give it another shot. The new restaurant does not equal the old one.

Menu and drinks list looks better (both were pretty forgettable at the old one) so happy to check it out.

How? We could never turn into Red Lobster from University, you had to turn onto Lincoln and enter across from the hotel?

I just attempted a left into the Hyatt. There's a friggin median there. You have to drive all the way to Texas to turn around!!! Took me half an hour!!!

Drove right past the turn lane between McAlister and Hyatt House, the one next to Willie's, and the intersections at E Tarrow and Tarrow. Sounds about right for the people complaining about medians.

Yes. Pricing is $65/person, so you would just pay the $65 plus full tip. Not a bad deal. We have another one we are using tonight. It's from mothers day.

Add Napa Flats to the list.

Another restaurant that adds a 3% charge to credit purchases:

Maria Mia's

Getting tired of businesses passing off cost of doing business fees to their customers.

And their alternative is to raise prices across the board .

Businesses passing off the cost of doing business to their customers is kinda the point of a business.

Restaurants should adjust pricing to reflect the cost of accepting credit cards. The optics are terrible. I can use a credit card nearly anywhere else and not have a fee added due to the type of payment.

In Asia the price on the menu is the price- no tax adder, no tip adder, etc.

The US is not like any other nation. We tip ALOT and our restaurants and other service industries pass along sales tax and fees to customers. Not a big deal to me. If you don't like it, don't tip, don't use a credit card, or better yet, don't go to those establishments. It's one of the beautiful things about living in a free capitalistic country.

Our sales tax strategy is interesting. In a lot of other countries, it is included in the marked price.

On the one hand, having the marked price be the all-in price sure makes figuring out how much you will have to pay a lot easier. On the other hand, burying it in the price hides how much tax people are paying. The various surcharges on the bill are a way of making the public aware of the costs.

Take gas prices here. They show the all in price (and sometimes it is different for cash vs credit). It hides how much the federal and state gas taxes are adding to the price. No awareness, limited consequence for politicians increasing the tax.

As for credit vs cash pricing at restaurants, adding the credit surcharge or a cash discount makes the customer aware of the costs being imposed on the business and has the potential to shift customer behavior towards more cash. Increasing all the prices by 2-3% ultimately punishes cash customers and loses the behavior shift, driving up costs for the business.

I'd be curious how DoorDash/etc contribute. They are adding their own fees on top which would cover their credit processing fees and other things. What does the agreement between the restaurant and DoorDash/etc require. If an increase for dine-in to cover processing fees automatically causes an increase in DoorDash/etc, then delivery customers are now getting hit with double the processing fees (once from the restaurant's price increase and once from DoorDash's fees) even though the restaurant isn't processing the payment.
