Ya its super weird actually. Theres some days they dont open til like 9 am, which for a coffee shop is pretty wild
Had De Baca Golden Hour for the first time today. Excellent drinks, food, and service at a reasonable price. Will definitely go back.

Definitely don't go to Frice for the ambiance. But I love their food and friendly service. Portion size is at least 2-3 servings. I always plan on leftovers.
I thought it never had vegetables? Never has anywhere I have gotten it.

I was upset when Shun de Mom and Wokamole closed but the local *authentic* (I'm aware there's probably a better word) Chinese has improved. I never had Chef Cao's in my rotation but their *authentic* stuff has expanded and improved. They and Frice are my go to takeout places and I'm consistently pleased.
Chef Cao's isn't bad takeout.
We also like T. Jin's, C&C.

CS T-Jins has an excellent Shrimp with Salt and Pepper (pepper is jalapenos) . the Boonville T-Jins doesn't carry it.

Salt & Pepper Shrimp at Imperial in Bryan is my go-to dish.
Oishi for authentic Chinese and really fresh sushi.

I did have a steak from Saltgrass a couple weeks ago, granted it was a sirloin, and it was horrible.

Ok - we went back to 1860 tonight and I had the 8 ounce filet. I think I had the ribeye last time. That 8 ounce filet was really, really good. Perfectly cooked at M-R for me. I will be going back to try the 16-ounce aged ribeye very soon.
And I gotta say, it's really not that loud in there. It was full and we had a great conversation and I had no issues contributing. I am partially deaf so it really bothers me when it's too loud. No issues tonight. We had a group of college kids next to us that probably know some of the workers there because they were chatting it up with them and laughing the whole time. They apologized several times but no issues whatsoever. We were sitting in the bar area so maybe that was the difference?

I like 1860 too. We go after they open and sit at the bar. Great service and not as busy or noisy. Their red gravy is the best I've had anywhere.

If I'm not mistaken, they have $5 martini type drinks on Thursdays (like Cosmos, etc). I always forget.

Last time we were there (before last night) was May 2023 and there was a bar then. I remember the date because it was a special occasion for us. Very nice upscale bar. Lots of tvs. Sound turned off. I could see myself just hanging out at the bar if I wasn't with a party.
Also, they serve their red wines chilled which I really like. I'm not much a wine connoisseur but I love a nice hardy red with a good steak.
