Got a quick trip to Tahoe/Incline Village at the end of the month (Jan 25-29). Supposed to ski Diamond Peak a couple of days.
May be doing more hiking than skiing. Or losing money at the craps table...

There is hope that this ridge breaks down around Jan 20th or so and brings some cold air and moisture around jan 23-25th. Obviously, still a long ways out, though.

Mt. Rose nearby has a 1,500 ft higher base elevation- 6700 compared to 8,200 ft. at Mt Rose. And the top elevation is much higher also. So it should have more/ better snow if Diamond Peak is lacking snow.

Leave Saturday for Steamboat. The highs are upper 30s all week. Wish it was a week earlier to enjoy the fresh powder from last weeks storm. Oh well, we'll make the most of it!

Good mountain. They've caught some good snow over the last two weeks. Headed there myself next month.

Yeah, Mt Rose has been on my list to check out! Have been wanting to "ski the chutes" for a while.

I've got free days at Diamond Peak though and their base actually looks okay. It'll likely just be some slick groomers. Definitely will keep Mt Rose in mind though.

Nothing expected in Colorado until the 24/25. That Storm should produce but they're been saying that all year. Hate to say it but I doubt we catch 6 over 14/15. Even if it snowed 5 ft wed still be below average.

So I guess the good news is snows in the long range forecast. Bad News is the state is back to the worst year on record over the last 40. We bumped to the 3rd and 5th percentile for a week or so but now we're back to 0%.

Sorry I haven't been on here much. Trying to figure out how to not close our shop 4 months into the open. Not looking promising.

Focus on value, though the margins might suck. Keep in mind a LOT of us Texans coming in learned to ski in NM and SoCo so sparse coverage and icy conditions are nothing new. It doesn't bother me at all, personally. The issue is going to be the locals who target more ideal conditions aren't getting them and aren't coming out, but those invested in coming in from a distance aren't going to want to needlessly make changes and will tend to make the best of it.

It's great for me because it means short or no lift lines and 30+ rides from base to peak in a day just lapping my favorite runs or good practice runs over and over until the lift is closed. For others it also means shorter lines and less crowded runs but surely there is a way to extract some value from that offering by focusing on the people it does draw in.

The place were getting crushed isn't from skiers from the south. It's from the NE. They have better conditions so NY, NH, PA are cancelling and staying at rte home owned Vail Resort mountain.

Hate to say that not true, but it's not true.

The locals are the ones here and they don't rent skis. Hotel occupancy in November and December were the lowest since COVID. Something like 72-79% when It's usually about 90-95%. Avon is even worse. Our old shop hasn't hit their totals from November 2025 and that includes Christmas New Years and soon to be MLK. It's a total **** show for local businesses. At least we didn't have a strike but damn the snow is just Awful and the longer this drags on the more cancellations we will have. If spring break and Presidents day are a bust then were fd.

BC - which direction would you steer me on a ~170 in a 90-100 waist? I got rid of the K2s I picked up before the season and I'm casually looking around.

5'7" 170lb, intermediate skier. I've got Kendos at 88 and Prodigy 3 at 106, was thinking it would be nice to have something in the middle, but my Kendos are my de facto rock ski now, so they'd be replacing those.

New rumor in town is the Back Bowls will likely not open ALL SEASON unless February brings epic levels of snow. Sunny and cold the next 14. Snow chances the 22-24 but the forecast keeps weakening. Down to 3-6 inches now from 12/18 on Monday. NOT surprised but that's another slit across the wrists for us.

Total snowfall for Vail Oct - Today : 67 inches… average at this point is about 130.

Sorry to hear. Maybe I'm less finicky than most and don't know it. Their loss in my view but I suppose people don't want to spend get usual amount of money got what they consider suboptimal.

I'm in a different category that I guess skews my perspective. I'll go at any opportunity and am already going on the cheap. Yeah, if entire groups and families are canceling thousands of dollars in vacation plans to go elsewhere that really has to hurt.

Just skied Beaver Creek today. Now pow but plenty of cover for us to ski non stop. Literally top to bottom without a line. Great skiing right now.

Welp. It's now officially official: 2025/2026 is the worst snow year at this point in the season for CO and NM in recorded history not just the past 40.

Even worse: BEST 2 week forecast in the for the entire state is 10 inches in Steamboat and that seems generous. Otherwise is 1-3 over the next 14 which means were going to be set daily record lows probably every day through the first of February.

Absolutely BRUTAL year.

Vail reported daily skiers through 1/15 we're down 22% vs 2024/25. That's a huge drop but right about what were seeing too.

Pray for an El Niño Feb/March in a La Nina year.

Best we can hope for is some regression to mean over time. Records happen, good and bad. I feel for the local businesses. I do my part, I am fine with icy crud and no lines. I'll lap manmade groomers all day. We have a big group going to Durango last week of Feb.

My concern is I want to get a third trip in in March or early April and thin base = early melt off = early end to season in driving range for me. That'll mean Wolf creek probably

Winter park got 8" yesterday and looks like 3 overnight.

Probably going to keep our late February trip.

Yep. Drove through that storm yesterday on I-70. Always a fun time.

And I agree with Mouth. If you're not a POW seeker that has to ski tree lines etc. the skiing is great. Sure it may hurt like hell when you fall but I probably skied some of my fastest runs on Thursday. Probably too fast.

Conditions Now arent bad. It's the spring that's Gonna suck because there's no base. Vail Is 46% of median. That means once the temps warm It's Gonna be bare ground by early to mid March and bare by April. We need cover now to extend the season into the spring or else they just close more and more until it's only a couple runs.

Praying.

Just landed in the boat and for sure, lots of farmland not covered. Disappointing to say the least but with 3 days of ski school for 2/3 kids, we'll make it work.
