Well he didn't reappear. I did convince her not to kill it and to just grab it bring it over and it will likely bite her but it won't hurt very bad. She's on board. She loves her frogs and doesn't want them eating them.

I thought this was going to be about the signs behind the snake.

The snake wouldn't tell me who he was out campaigning for unfortunately...

She's more comfortable handling that snake than about 99% of men would be I reckon.

This was taken by a friend in Florida. He says it was a Cottonmouth, but doesn't look stout enough to me. Can't see the head very well. I know this board will know!

No - Banded Water Snake would be my guess. One of the IG Herp dudes I follow was just in Georgia and caught one.

We're talking about Florida so it could possibly be some crazy Vietnamese water viper...

I would also say banded water snake... definitely Nerodia.

While I was at work yesterday evening, my wife texted me this photo. It's the window in our back door by the kitchen, so about 3-4 feet above ground level. She wanted to know what kind it was, and I initially texted back anaconda. She was not amused!

If it's climbing in Texas there's a 95% chance it's a rat snake.

As one of our thread brother's so eloquently put it, "high as your hat? Probably a rat"

As silly as this sounds,....in years past I would have instantly killed them all as I have done for years....I was a tried and true member of the "only good snake is a dead one" tribe....

After watching this thread for all this time, I can honestly say that even the copperheads in my yard get moved into the woods living to see another day....

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I love them like some of you, but you have made me a believer in the fact that they don't have to die.

I'm thinking there was the power of suggestion going on because of this thread because last night I had a very vivid dream that I did a dumbass thing I'd never do IRL and was handling a coral snake which took the opportunity to latch on to my thumb. I remember getting it off my thumb, coming inside and telling the wife I needed to go to the hospital and was very calm about it while she freaked out. But I don't remember anything after that.

I know yall have said this before and I am not doubting it...but what would cause a copper head to climb into a tree? The only picture I have provided to these threads was a copper head I nearly grabbed in some spanish moss on a live oak branch.

One of the primary food sources for them in the summer is cicadas.

Been a little slow at my place. A couple of small copperheads, a red stripe ribbon snake, and that's about it.

Maybe they are tired of wearing their new headdresses!

More like they're on strike until they get some fancy headdresses!

They can't climb like a rat snake can though, right? Wouldn't it have to be a tree that was leaning or access to it from something else???

They'll wait at the base of trees.

The one I almost grabbed was in a free standing live oak. I was actually standing in the bed of my truck at the time removing low hanging limbs so they didn't scratch the top of my truck when I parked.
ttha_aggie_09

Nope, they can climb. I don't think they're as good as of climbers or as inclined to do so as rats. I would probably say that's due to their length but not sure.
