Most of the time yes but a good "as found" shot is as good as it gets.

I'm gonna be walking some transmission lines in Nebraska tomorrow. What should I be on the lookout for when it comes to venemous snakes? Any good looking ones I should look for?

Could be prairie rattlesnakes depending on where you are.

I'll be on the lookout for them. Thanks.

I'll be almost smack down in the middle of Nebraska.

Found at Former Kelly AFB this morning in some grass near a dumpster. ~14-16" long. I walked right through that grassy area about 4-5 times last week.

Nice. Nice pattern on the snake. I've walked right past, over, (and on) rattle snakes and never gotten struck at or bitten.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

Its not dead but the toad is. Was relocated 7 mile away. Which may not be far enough away.

My wife sees these all the time walking near our house. I never see them. She did get a picture today. Said it didn't move as she and the dog just walked by.

These yellow belly water snakes seem more aggressive than rat snakes when being caught.

Very much so. Got struck at numerous times by the water snake I caught (posted above somewhere). Only got struck at once by the rat snake I caught (also posted above somewhere) and it was really a pathetic attempt at a strike. Rat snake was pretty chill.

That is a very accurate statement. Part of the reason water snakes get killed so frequently is that they are very aggressive and territorial snakes for the most part. In my experience, diamondback water snakes are a little more docile, but Nerodia erythrogaster (blotched/yellow-bellied/pain bellied) is a very aggressive species as are the broad banded water snakes. Not much experience with mississippi greens or other varieties.

Broad Banded water snakes are some mean mofos!

I've always argued that the more "bark" a snake has (posturing, striking, etc.) the more likely it is to be non-venomous. The pit vipers know they have a bite and aren't usually quick to show you. Just my personal observation though, and part of that may be influenced by the fact that I was usually trying to catch the non-venomous ones (provoking them) while generally just observing or more delicately handling (with a tool/stick) the venomous snakes. I don't play with venomous snakes anymore. I'm not as young and as stupid.

Agree. One got popped in our teal decoys before daylight last year bc he wouldn't swim away. Couldn't tell if it was a cottonmouth or not, so we blasted him. Used a stick to get him, and it was a DBWS. Poor fella. Felt bad afterwards, but we weren't taking chances in the dark wading in the water. He was a mean sumbich.

The first was when i walked up. The last was right before they tumbled in some leaves. Im not sure who won the battle. I was a bit disappointed i didnt see it to the end

Nothing wakes you up faster than grabbing a snake out of the decoy bag! It's like coffee, but more intense and the crap comes out quicker.

That's what we used to call garter snakes. Never knew it was called a patchnose.

They look very similar and ribbonsnakes have a concurrent range in the state so you could have seen both.
