Every map I have found has kind of had the same pattern in Texas. This one is from herpsoftexas.org.

The herd of rabbits and mice that migrated back in after the erosion fences were put in and plants grew back. They were always there, just way more than I have seen it since then.

That snake was from near Freeport. I'd say that's SE or at least close enough. That's a decent map.

Definitely still a hognose. Not a cottonmouth. Whatever 12f mane calls it is the right answer. I don't think I've ever seen him wrong once on this thread in years.

This one was definitely tough but the head shape and somewhat visible nose give it away.

I fish eckerts a lot around the tubes and am always on the look out. Plenty of snakes in that area and in Spanish Grant.

Found a 2 foot or so hognose in one of my snake traps this afternoon. Snake was not happy, but gave me a classic hooded cobra hissing show followed by writhing upside down fake death, and trying to make a break for it when the coast looked clear.

Got some pics I'll post later. You can actually make out the bigger "venom teeth" that the hognose has about halfway back on its upper jaw.

Those are teeth the hognoses use secure their prey. They don't actually emit any "venom". They have modified saliva that counteracts the effects of toad poison, making them one of the few animals that can consume toads.

I can probably get a couple pictures of their teeth when I feed my Eastern and western hogs today.
