Development Update 1.11.18



Eververse
  • Shifting focus on activity rewards instead of Bright Engrams (ghosts, sparrows, ships will be moved to achievement reward pools)
  • provide a gameplay path to earn bright engrams and all contained rewards (including event engrams)
  • Give players more direct purchase options and make adjustments to bright engrams so players can get what they want.

Adding Ghosts, Sparrows, and Ships to activities, earn engrams from milestones, and better direct purchases.

Changes in Crimson Days Event (Feb 13th)
  • Completing the Nightfall (Legendary Emote), the Raid (Weapon Skin), and the Crimson Days milestones (Exotic Sparrow) during the event will reward you with exclusive gear.
  • Earn both the Crimson Engram and the Illuminated Engram on level-up.
  • Crimson Engrams can also drop from completing the Crimson Days match and from completing the Crimson Days milestone on each character.
  • Each Crimson Engram is very strongly weighted to new rewards when decrypted until all new items have been obtained.

3 new Crimson Days exclusive items rewarded from nightfall, raid, and milestones. Crimson Engrams won't replace Illuminated Engrams like in the Dawning. Crimson Engrams can drop from crucible and milestones. Duplicate reduction on Crimson Engrams.

XP Rates
  • Basically saying that they think it's too slow and lopsided towards grinding specific activities. They are still figuring a way to do this without nerfing the xp on the easier activities.

XP adjustments coming eventually but no definitive plan yet.


FUTURE ROAD MAP
Jan 30th
  • Masterwork Armor - Intrinsic perk is increased damage reduction during Super. You can re-roll stat type using the Masterwork Cores and shards.
  • Raid Reward Rework - Raid rewards will now feature mods with Raid specific perks. Raid items will drop from each major encounter. The raid vendor will also directly sell leviathan and eater of worlds armor and weapons for purchase with raid tokens and legendary shards. Also adding a new Ghost with raid specific perks that has a chance to drop from the final encounters.

Masterwork armor: Increased protection during super and rerollable stats. Raid rewards will have a raid mod, drops from each major encounter, vendor rework, ghost from final bosses.

February Update
  • Stirke Scoring + High Score Tracking - Scoring is replacing the time limit mechanic in Nightfalls. Scoring is similar to D1 but with adjustments to emphasize competitive execution of Strike Objectives and support for player selectable score modifiers. High Scores will exposed in=game via new emblems and will unlock rewards. Also, there are plans for Clan and Community High Scores in the works.
  • Mods 2.0 - Full rework. Focus on reducing redundant mods, more unique theming, and greatly increasing their impact on your power. This may come in Feb. or Spring.
  • Quickplay Improvements - Adjusting game mode rules to increase the pace of game play and power ammo acquisition in Quickplay.
  • Exotic Repetition Reduction - Prevents you from getting 2 duplicates in a row. (Meaning you can still get duplicates just not the same one back to back.)
  • Fireteam members on Destination Map - Finally.

Nightfall reworked to include strike scoring instead of timer. Additional rewards based on score. No definitive plan on mods yet but focus on decreasing redundancy and their impact on power. Adjusting crucible pace of game. Back to back exotic prevention. Fireteams on map.

Spring 2018
  • Crucible Ranks. 2 types of ranks. Valor - Rank goes up by completing matches and no loss penalties. Glory - Rank goes up when you win and down when you lose.
  • Private Matches
  • 6v6 Playlist (in addition to the current 4v4 ones)
  • Mayhem Event - Return as a limited time event.
  • Planning changes to make quitting less common and improving security behind the scenes.

Crucible Ranks: Valor (completion based) and Glory (Winning based), private matches, 6v6, mayhem event,

Additional Highlights
  • Weapon and Ability Balance Pass - Info released leading up to Season 3
  • Exotic Weapon and Armor Balance Pass - Each exotic is getting a look at to ensure it stands out from the rest of the gear and offer new exting ways to play.
  • Seasonal Reputation - Vendors will have seasonal rank for seasonal rewards.
  • Improved Iron Banner and Faction Rallies - focus on making them unique.
  • Playlist Repetition Reduction - Reduces chances of dropping you in the same strike or crucible map as just completed.
  • End Game Player Pursuits - Shift rewards from Bright Engrams to the end game
  • Multi Emote - Customize all 4 emote slots.
  • Vault Space - Short term solution is adding 50 slots. Still working on it. Adding exotic accessory slot so exotic sparrows, ships, and ghosts don't take up inventory slots.
  • Heroic Strike Changes - adding modifiers.

Fall 2018 (or sooner)
  • Item Collections and Records

So long story short...

Bungie's Longterm Goals- Sandbox changes to weapons, abilities, and exotics, Improved Iron Banner/Faction Rallies, Endgame Rewards.

Eververse - Move some (all?) ghosts, ships, and sparrows to world rewards.


FUTURE ROAD MAP

These updates are great and all... but I feel like 90% of them are either getting us back to where we were with D1, or undoing a stupid decisions (Eververse).

Masterwork armor just providing extra armor in supers is very lackluster. 50 extra vault spaces isn't much.

Destiny 1 was great. I just don't think Bungie/Activision is serious about making Destiny 2 great. I don't feel a need to jump back in.

Overall the changes are pretty good. This update is actually pretty much exactly what I was expecting. Only problem is I wish they'd have some QoL update ready immediately. Seems like the things bugging me the most are things they could throw in an update by the end of the month but I don't know I'm not a game developer.

Things I love:
  • Moving Ships, Sparrows, and Ghosts out to the world.
  • Guaranteed raid rewards on major encounters.
  • Replacing the Nightfall Timer with point scoring.
  • Fireteam members on the map.
  • 6v6 is good.
  • No more loading into the Garden World 3 times in a row.
  • Multi-emote: I want all the Chicken Dances
  • Even just the mention of changes to the weapon system (Primary, Special, Heavy Please)
  • Masterwork Exotics: Could you imagine the Riskrunner chaining orbs like crazy.

Things I Meh:
  • Masterwork Armor: Boring Perk but masterwork armor needed to be a thing (bonus perk should be if it's exotic: When you're shield breaks (get in the red) you generate an orb and major increased protection in super; helmet: increased orb production when in your super; Gauntlets: increased recovery when in your super; Chest: increased resilience when in your super, Legs: increased mobility when in your super).
  • Vault space: 50 by itself isn't much but they are still working on a more permanent solution. Don't know why collection kiosks aren't a thing since weapon rolls are static.
  • Exotic repetition reduction: They've worked on it before but I think 6th times the charm (the solution should be making 40% or so of the exotics as quest rewards and then the rest should be drops like they are now but at a much slower rate and without ANY duplicates).
  • New Crucible Ranks: Really not a bad idea but since I'm not much of a crucible player I don't see the draw of it. It's not even a leaderboard, just another ranking up to higher level.
  • Private Matches: Something that should have been there from day 1 so that I can choose never to use it whenever I want like in D1.
  • Mayhem Event: Loved Mayhem, sad it's leaving but hopefully it'll come around once or twice a month. (Should be a last week of the month or weekends or even just the day before weekly reset.)

Things I Hate:
  • Heroic Strike Modifiers: Depends on if they add D2 or D1 type modifiers.
  • Additional Crucible Playlists being in the "Fall 2018 (or sooner)" section. Better be the sooner.
  • Shaders and Dismantling being in the "Fall 2018 (or sooner)" section. REALLY better be the sooner.
  • Absolutely no mention of adding collectibles back in. That was a rumor yesterday I was most excited about. I mean...Dead ghosts lying around just makes so much damn sense.
  • No strike specific loot: Maybe they are moving the ghosts, ships, and stuff to strikes but I want weapons damn it.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear though. This wasn't meant to be a content update. It was meant to be them steering the ship in the right direction. Which I think they have. Yes, they are pointing the right way now but they still gotta deliver on where they say they are heading and preferably get a quick start.

This is bc the Live Team is in charge now. The code was split after the release of The Taken King, so none of the Live team's improvements in years 2 & 3 made it to D2.

The Live team is trying to un**** everything right now.

Seems to me that the Live Team should be the Dev team.

Great to know the road map, but I'm thinking it's a little too late for the majority of players. They'll have to have a TTK type re launch with the game to fix a lot of this.

I get that. I'm just saying that it sucks that we're like 4 months into this game, and we're still trying to bring it back to the D1 levels of good. I'm glad they're trying to head in the right direction, I just wish all the effort they're putting into it to make it the way D1 was, was being put into new stuff and deepening the game

I think Bungie had their shot and blew it. I don't think they'll ever get a sizeable portion of the player base back. Especially not when changes are rolled out so damn slowly.

You don't need to roll out the game and let the entire player base try it before you realize that:
-4v4 only crucible sucks
-maybe you should be able to pick which type of crucible game you jump into
-picking strikes non-randomly is good
-weapons and armor from the raid should help with the raid

Dang. No faction rally breakdown? This game really is in the crapper.

I don't know where to look for info if I don't have Beezy spoonfeeding it to me.

Looks like all 3 weapons are auto rifles. I can't really tell which one would be best. I might be leaning towards dead orbit because of the higher stability.

edit: Looks like the hot-fix posted yesterday that allowed everyone regardless of DLC ownership to do the faction rallies removed a bunch of weapons that were datamined as curse of osiris weapons. However, looking back through the This Week At Bungie posts, everything is worded so that no new weapons were mentioned. Only armor ornaments. So either they are sitting on weapons for some reason or they pulled them from the loot pool.

The state of the game makes me so, so sad. The managers in charge of the game truly are horrible at their jobs. Maybe they're making a ton of cash off of Eververse, because it is shocking that someone higher up in Bungie or Activision hasn't steeped in and started putting out fires yet.

I know you guys disagree but I'm still having a great time playing the game. Just started my first alt (warlock) this weekend. The HDR update looks great and I enjoy the masterwork weapon idea although I haven't found one I really want as of yet.

Sure it could be significantly better and I hope they continue to hammer away at it but it is my go to game still with a bit over 100 hours in.

Of course I don't play many hours/week so I could see how I would get burned out if I played a ton.

For a lot of games with online currencies, I understand why people would pay the money for the subtransactions. I don't understand why people would pay a dime for them in this game though. I played for a couple hours each of the past two days, and I enjoyed it as a casual thing to do to pass time, but I just don't see the grindability that we had for Destiny 1.

So Bungie's response to the new weapons not dropping.


There will be 3 faction rallies this season.

  • 1st (this one) - The only new weapons are the winner's rewards (autorifles). (1 winner's reward, no loot pool)
  • 2nd - Another weapon type will be the winner's reward (not autorifle). Autorifles and one other weapon are added to the faction rewards engram. (1 winner's reward, 2 loot pool)
  • 3rd - For the final faction war, there will be another winner's reward (not autorifle or the second winner's reward). They will add the remaining weapon type to the loot pool in addition to the winner's reward of the second faction rally. (1 winner's reward, 4 loot pool)

So basically don't play until the 3rd faction rally because you know how they made the winner's reward 50,000 glimmer if you weren't pledged to that faction? It'll be free and in the loot pool the next time around.


They didn't want to have players quit by the 3rd faction rally so they made it the only one that's rewarding.

Also their solution to the token farms from previous faction rallies?

"Right now if a player opens more than 2 chests in a 10 minute period they will not receive additional rewards from Lost Sector chests for 10 minutes."

So I hope those lost sectors take you more than 5 minutes.

I haven't played in months aside from 1 day to get through curse of osiras, and reading all this stuff here makes we want to vomit. It is clear now that Bungie has gone the way of EA and just cares about the piles of money they can squeeze out of us which is a shame. They had such potential with these games and have basically squandered it away in the name of the almighty dollar. You want story or meaningful gameplay?? Too bad. Look at all the shiny stuff our microtransaction vendor has. Oh everyone quit playing? Let's just move all the rewards to the last freaking season so the few that are left get to earn the same crap over and over for months. That'll surely make people want to play. Just one boneheaded decision after another.

Bungie may need to scrap the D2 plan and push forward quickly with D3 if they want to save the franchise.

There is a huge lack of trust now from the fanbase to the company. The entire thing with faction rewards and everything else is crazy.

I listened to a podcast the other day that said it best.

"It seems like the folks who implement changes don't talk to the folks who playtest and deal with the community."

Makes me sad because I love this world and this lore and the gunplay of destiny.
