While true, he's also got a chronic case of the yips. He throws the ball too high A LOT. At some point it stops being the yips and starts being who he is.
Except for the vast majority of the time where he doesnt do that.

They guy didn't play in like 5 games and led the NFL in interceptions. That's bad. That's very very bad. He isn't good and we will likely never win anything with him as our QB. I hope I'm wrong, but doubt I am.
His interception total means nothing. I refuse to hold the INTs against him where he made a perfect throw and the reciever tossed it to a DB. And there have been quite a few of those. If you ignore those (and you should), we would not be having this conversation and his numbers would look great.

How many, exactly, are on the wide receivers and not Dak? 3, 4, 5? I'm curious.

This is what I've been saying about the run game and Moore's tendency to bang his head against a wall.

You can't keep putting Dak in 3rd and long.

This, to me, is 100% an OC issue.

Purdy is a rookie. I'm not sure the answer to this, but when is the last time a rookie QB made it to super bowl?

Roethlisberger I believe was a rookie when they played Seattle.

I would still absolutely bet the Niners to win against Seattle, but Pete Carrol is going to bring the house and have those boys ready to rock against a rookie QB.

The only reason the 49ers have done as well as they have is their defense is ELITE. If they had a mid tier defense they wouldn't be nearly as successful as they have been. Granted Purdy has to make throws but their OC has designed game plans to help him and not expose his weaknesses. Almost wish we had someone like that...

I couldn't tell you the exact number, but I would guess 4 or 5. I know there was another one where Gallup fell down and the ball went right to the defender. I guarantee you if those were caught like they should be, he would have at least a couple more touchdown passes and fewer interceptions. His stats would better reflect the kind of season he has had.

Just saw that Indy claimed our backup center, Shepley, off the waiver wire. Probably a non-story, but it means he doesn't get any playoff checks. That stinks.

This is the case for every QB on every team. Just like the team's record, you are what your record says you are. Same for a QB's stats.

That's really not true. There have been an extraordinary number of passes tipped and or bounce off receivers that have been intercepted.

To your point, a QB is dependent upon someone on the other end of a completion. So to simply say there's no such thing as INTs that are not the QBs fault is kinda silly.

Need a serious upgrade this off season. I don't want to give up on Gallup because it could be lingering effects of his injury, but let's face it, he was replaceable BEFORE the injury, as well.

I'm not saying all those picks are the QB's fault. I'm saying that happens to every QB across the league. So it's not fair to say "well Dak had 4 or 5 interceptions that were the receivers fault and not Dak's fault" … you could watch all of Brady's, or Mahomes', or Rodgers' picks and you would find several that are the receiver's fault. You just didn't watch all those throws like you did Dak's.

I would say that over the long haul, you're probably right that it tends to even out, but that doesn't mean that you can't have years like this year that it's a major deviation from the norm. I mean when you look at Dak's INT% this year compared to past years it's WAY higher than normal. So, that tells you something is diff about this year.

I think it's a combination of things. I think Dak has been put the ball at risk more than in the past which he's got to pull back on, but when you combind that with his receivers struggling with drops and deflections, you have a year that deviates from the norm.

One more note on Dak, his career INT% is at 2.0% which is top ten ALL TIME. He historically does not throw a ton of INTs.

Hopefully Gallup can find his way, because right now he's a $14 mill cap hit in 2023 and $19 million in dead money. That is largely because his 2023 salary is guaranteed

Yeah, sometimes it takes guys more than a year to get back after an ACL. Hopefully he regains form next year.

Its why just looking at simple stats like tds and interceptions gives you an incomplete and inaccurate assessment of a QBs season

I'm a Dak fan and supporter....but his legacy is on the line Monday night.

Right now....he's just Tony Romo 2.0
He's pretty good....certainly capable of beating the bad and average teams. Dak and Romo could pull an upset or two a year....but neither has really come through when it mattered in the post season.

If Dak leads the Cowboys to a win on Monday night he passes Romo in terms of all time Cowboys quarterback ranking. Right now I have them dead even.

Romo never beat Tom Brady, and he never led the Cowboys to a road playoff victory.

This should be the easiest Cowboys playoff opponent since 2006 Seattle. There really is no excuse for them not to win this game.

No one wants to remember that game. Nightmare fuel, but as one poster said above, Dak has a real chance to right-some-wrongs this NFL weekend. I don't know if I would personally say he is better than Romo just by beating a pretty average Bucs team, but he can go along way to save not only himself, but the whole team some grief by having a good game. And honestly, I think this game is squarely on his shoulders barring some egregious coaching decision or atrocious defensive outing. Dak has to get it done, no matter what.

The Dez play happened with 4:42 left in the game. With a TD, Dallas would have gone for 2 and been up either 1 or 3. GB killed the last 4:08, largely due to Rodgers having his way with Dallas on two 3rd down throws (26 and 12 yard completions after 2 clock killing runs). I've always assumed Rodgers would have brought GB back for the win anyway

It's possible (maybe probable), but if it happened, people would still be saying Tony couldn't win the big game. He did all he could in that big game on the road and he doesn't get any credit for it.

I agree that Dak is the leader and he needs to have a good game, but I want to remind folks of a few things. Everyone talking about how they haven't been great down the stretch, they've still scored 27 points a game and that's WITH the poor 6 point game in Wash. Outside of that, they have scored 32 in their last 4. One of those (Jax) was a fluke loss where the D gave up 32 points. The D gave up 34 to the Eagles without their starting QB. They gave up 23 to a not very good Houston team, and 26 to a rookie QB starting his first game.

I think we should be more worried about the defense than Dak. Dak could go out and score 30 points and we still lose this game. Is that on him?

And I will also say, that while you can say this game is on Dak, he really needs help from Moore & McCarthy regarding the game plan. They need to show some creativity. I posted the stat yesterday about how poor they are at running on first down. They've got to stop banging their head against the wall if those first down runs aren't working. You are tying one hand behind Dak's back if you now only have 2 downs to get 10 yards instead of 3. I also think, as we've discussed, the WR issue is a real problem. I think you can combat that with two things. TEs and using Zeke and Pollard at the same time. Zeke is a great pass blocker and you can use Pollard in motion and in the slot along with your quality TEs. If WR #3 is a huge problem, just eliminate some of the snaps N. Brown is having to play and give those to 22 and 23 personnel.

Those are my thoughts today....
Yellerjacket
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with all of this. Dak has to play better, but Moore has got to step it up with his gameplan.
Like you said, the offense (outside of WAS) has been doing okay despite the INTs.

Of course, if the defense could provide any resistance againt the run, our pass rush could be a factor again and we will win this game, period.

Romo took more **** than he deserved. It's just easy to get caught up in that catch made the difference in that game when in reality the defenses inability to get a stop the entire half except for the first drive was the real issue

Run, run, run, run.

Don't try to get cute, Zeke and Pollard are great weapons. Use them.
