Cowboys at Tampa is a likely first round matchup.
Still holding out hope for cowboys vs Seattle in round 1 if we can't pass Philly. How the hell do you even start training camp next year if you win 14 or 15 games, look like the 2nd or best team in the league at times, and lose in round 1 to the greatest QB of all time?

The only thing just as painful, if not more so, was the mavericks winning 67 games in 2007 and getting knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.
truth is... we should beat those guys. New Orleans sucks and had them on the ropes.

Whether it's Tampa Bay in the first round or not, the truth is you have to beat really good teams to make the Super Bowl. Got to also remember that Dallas is a pretty good team as well. One thing I'm seeing from the Cowboys right now is that they seem to be flipping a switch in the back half of the schedule which usually bodes well for playoff success. They are playing really good football right now.

just gotta stay healthy. Losing another starting CB could be trouble.

Getting Tyron back this week will be nice... I wonder what we do? move the rookie to LG or just keep Tyron in a backup role for a few more weeks.

That's a good question. The o-line really seems to be gelling. Is it one of those situations where you don't mess with a good thing?

I just read an article that says he might play against Jacksonville. So not too far away.

Agree w you though. The Oline has been good. And I heard a conversation on The Ticket this morning questioning if you really want to mess with that chemistry. But I think when you can bring back a hall of famer, you do it.

They're already toying with the OL in prep for his comeback. There was a series or two Sunday that Peters played LT and Smith moved to LG. When Tyron is 100% he will play LT and Smith LG.

Yep. They have been doing that for at least 2 weeks now (giving Peters LT reps and Tyler LG reps). Pretty smart for multiple reasons. It's a great problem to have multiple O-line options if somebody goes down.

Oh, there was something much more painful in 2011, but I try to repress that memory.

Somebody else said it earlier but I love the words in close captions that replace the bleeps.

Always fun when they win!

While watching the Sounds of the Sidelines I am always reminded of those amazing Cowboys Super Bowl Season highlight VHS tapes back in the 90's (Because it was Brad Sham's voice back then too). For all you kids out there, this was before the internet, before the DVR, etc... if you wanted to re-live a magical championship season you had to guy buy the tape at the end of the year! My dad always did and I wore those tapes out!!!

Anyway, I remember the '92 Cowboys championship tape... we lost a game to the Rams that we had absolutely no business losing and then a few weeks later lost a heart breaker to Washington. It was our 3rd loss of the season and to quote the guy doing the narration for the video "It was their most disappointing loss of the season... it would also be their last!".

Here's hoping that our 3rd loss of the season was also our most disappointing... and also our last!

I remember that Washington game. If I remember right, that game came down to an Aikman fumble where his arm was coming in a forward motion. I was 14 at the time. I remember being so pissed.

Found a clip of that game. The play I'm referring to starts at the 3:10 mark.

The 4th Q Sunday night reminded me of the 4th Q of SB 27...all it lacked was DLaw being chased down from behind by Paris Campbell who then strips the ball to prevent a no-doubter TD at the goal line...

IIRC, the Rams' Cleveland Gary (?) had a great game running the ball and the Cowboys just looked flat that day.

Still have my Sports Illustrated "Year In Sports" VHS tapes from the early 90's. I could watch the highlight reels on the end every single day.

Some comparisons between the '92 season and the 30 year anniversary '22 season that we can only hope play out the same way:

1. Dallas only had 3 losses all season
2. Philly was kicking everybody's ass early in the season, including a game against Dallas in Philly. But they cooled off and we handled them in our next game in Dallas and destroyed them in the Division round of the playoffs!
3. Dallas had one of the best rushing teams in the NFL and also one of the best QB pressuring defenses. They thrived on turnovers and ran the ball to control the games.

What's not similar about 30 years ago is I wasn't a middle aged old guy :-(

I was at that Philly playoff ass kicking. A buddy and I tried to buy some of the last remaining singles that went on sale at Texas Stadium during the week - WFAA interviewed us since we were last in line (basically no hope of actually getting any) and ended up airing it. Ended up buying a scalped pair while we were there; ultimately ended up sitting next to an Elvis impersonator. Good times.

What was the atmosphere like in Texas Stadium? I never went to a Cowboy game there but I remember thinking it sounded loud as hell watching those playoff games on tv.

Really good. JerryWorld has priced out so many hardcore fans that were long-time season ticketholders. The roof style also helped reverberate the sound. They were especially fired up for this game because everyone could sense that a champion was being assembled + Philly was so hated

The franchise was so successful for so long that not being to a conference championship game since 1983 felt like FOREVER. There was so much pent up hunger for and excitement about what was coming together. Really crazy that it's now been nearly 3 decades since the last one

The foundation of this team is the best I've seen since the 90s. We finally simultaneously have a great OL and Defense again. This is our best chance in forever. One major difference from 1993 is we will probably have to win 3 road games to make the SB. Thats a tall order for any team.

The Cowboys just happen to have one of only five head coaches in NFL history to actually pull that feat off and win a Super Bowl. Need McCarthy to channel his 2010 self.

Cowboys signed Mackensie Alexander.

When healthy he's actually better than Brown. Anyone remember us recruiting him here at A&M? He was a player I really wanted. His high school film was completely unreal

Yeah I think he was a 2nd round pick as well. My guess is he didn't stick in Minny due to injuries.

CB is still a pretty big need for help IMO. What's his injury situation?

I had forgotten that the Texans were the team that took Kenyon Green off the board and one of the reasons we "had to settle" for Tyler Smith.

Apparently Kenyon has been pretty terrible as a rookie which would have been an absolute disaster for us considering what happened to Tyron. Tyler Smith has been an absolute godsend!

Not judging, but this is from Cowboy's SBNation website
Quote:

Outside of Laremey Tunsil, the rest of the Texans' line has really struggled. Kenyon Green, who the Texans selected with the 15th pick in last year's draft, has had an abysmal rookie year. Green has a 26.3 pass-block grade and 51.5 run-block grade via PFF and has allowed 35 QB pressures, tied for the fifth-most in the league. Green also has been penalized 10 times on the year.

Ranger fans you're not dreaming! The Rangers are the World Series Champions!

Nice find Twilly.

I was listening to Kavanaugh and some Texans podcaster type guy talk about the upcoming game. It was the Texans guy that went on for about 15-30 seconds how Kenyon had just really struggled as a rookie and when you consider where he was drafted, you'd classify him as a pretty terrible pick.

Just clarifying where my comment came from... I certainly have not watched Kenyon play, who actually wants to watch the Texans play!

Rookies at #15 aren't always an absolute hit, especially in the trenches.

I also think part of the issue is that the Texans suck. Terribly ran organization that is reaching Detroit Lions level of suckage.

I'd be willing to bet he'd be doing much better if he were lined up next to Tyron.
