Finally read the chat, including what was released today. I actually appreciate getting to see the discussion.

The Atlantic thinks it got so.e "war plans" but the info itself is pretty tame.

I don't think any classified information is in there.

Is it a stupid beach of opsec? Yes. Should someone get punished? Probably.

Is the Atlantic/dems making a mountain out of a molehill? For sure.

Yeah if someone like Ben Shapiro "accidentally" was on Biden's signal chat because his initials were BS I'm fairly sure MANY people would be questioning how exactly could Shapiro get on that sensitive chat. What is classified about a carrier is going to launch f18s and use drones and tomahawk missiles? This is all publicly available info as far as assets on a carrier. The timing info is useless without target or location. Should the journo be in the group? No. That is the only issue. I did find it funny that Hegseth said "We are clean on OPSEC" when with hindsight, OPSEC was NOT clean.

Again, not really as huge a deal as all the detractors are making it out to be. But again, if there is more, I am persuadable to change my mind.

Also, I deployed many times. And these gentlemen are and should be held to a higher standard than regular joes...

But OPSEC was busted all the time by lower enlisted talking to their families, FRGs, etc.

Even if it's built in house it would still require commercial software components. Whether we use COTS software or develop in house, they all go through pretty rigorous devsecops processes. The same vulnerabilities remain.

our jets have been continuously overhead since they started shooting at boats. This is not an out of the ordinary sight to the people over there. This whole thing looks to be a fart in the wind. Now if there is more info to come, I reserve the right to change my mind. But as of now the only thing I'm concerned about is group membership integrity and verification.

They have a secure communication link that travels with them as part of their security detail. Based on what I've read, it takes a little time to setup and isn't the most user-friendly (probably something along the lines of if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Signal is easier to use and is fairly secure, but not if it's being used on a personal device.

Wrong. One of the more consequential EOs (two in fact) that Biden issued around securing our nations supply chains and boosting cyber security infrastructure remained in place. To suggest the trump administration doesn't care about IT security if a complete and disingenuous lie.

my first thought when this popped off a couple of days ago was "mole hunt". give something that looks to be a big deal that is not really and see how it gets out. But who knows really?

Am I the only one that is completely shocked that the highest levels of our Government (VP, SecDef, SecState, NSA, etc) are communicating back and forth on a app that any of us can download from the iPhone App store?

I would have thought they would have some form of dedicated software that was only available to a limited few.

Regardless, the notion that "we didn't discuss anything that was classified" is laughable on the surface. Anyone who has ever been in the military knows that practically everything is classified, even at the lowest "confidential" level. Just acknowledge it and move on.

Again, this was a leftover Recommendation to use Signal from Biden admin (and IT installed the apps on the executive branch employees phones before they got them). I've yet to see a democrat on the thread acknowledge this. Continuity between administrations in opsec/modes of communication is normal. As is Witkoff using his sole govt issue phone while in Moscow.
