That sound like the balance in favor of personal rights is off. If I'm mistakenly accused (or an enemy files a false, anonymous report on me) of something and the FBI finds no evidence or cause, why should I have to be on the radar of the school or SRO's or have to check in or anything. It's an impossible situation for law enforcement and school admin given the rights we have as americans. But that's the balance we accept and the associated risk with the freedoms we appreciate.

Don't disagree but that will take a generation or two to change if we start today. And I don't see concurrence by society on how to do this or who should force / incentivize this change (government?). Not sure there is patience or risk threshold to wait that long.

True. It's a little like red flag laws, or at least has the same possibilities of infringement.

Schools have their own rules and students don't necessarily have the same expectations of right. It's something that commonly makes it way to court.

I don't know what the answer is, but, it seems pretty common that a school shooter was on the isd, local police or FBI's radar before they committed the act and there might be a way to use that info to stop these things before they start

Yep, and that didn't happen. They assumed wrong. As we all probably would have done in that time and situation.

I probably should have added "culture", but most of what I mentioned covered it.

I wish things weren't so divided, but it is what it is. The opportunities are there to become part of the positive culture of the United States, but many would rather blame others and not work or take responsibility.

Freedom is our strength, not diversity.

But if more people would embrace freedom and responsibility, all peoples and cultures could flourish. Asians, both Indian and East Asian do well in the US.

Notify the school, local police, his parents, all his neighbors?

I agree. Not much the FBI could've done. However, it should've been a red flag for the parents to secure the weapons and keep an eye over the kid like a hawk. I've got a feeling mom and dad are going to get charged with murder on this one as well.

Yes it has and yet we continue to add to the problem by allowing the continued invasion of our country by those unlike us and unlikely to want to be like us. The cultural rot of the folks who have been here for generations along with the culture of the invaders isn't something that can be fixed easily. Two or three generations and you might make a little progress, but I doubt very much can be changed.

I hear you. It sucks that we're so divided. I guess the best we can do is be our best selves and live the best lives possible, even if it is in spite of everything and everyone else.

His parents should have known. Doubt the FBi interviewed him without the parents knowledge

Making terroristic threats is not a crime? Could the FBI not tie threats to him?

Or is this the new FBi , letting him go, just in time for election season?

Following the tips from Discord users, authorities went to the Grays' residence and spoke to both Colt, who was then 13 and a student at Jefferson Middle School in Georgia, and his father, Colin, according to the report. Colin denied knowing what Discord was and Colt said he had deactivated his Discord account months prior. Discord is a free messaging app, predominantly used in the gaming community.
"Colt expressed concern that someone is accusing him of threatening to shoot up a school, stating that he would never say such a thing, even in a joking manner," the report says. "Colt stated he stopped using Discord because too many people kept hacking his account and he was afraid someone would use his information for nefarious purposes."
The tip the FBI received about the Discord account said it had been created in April 2023 after Colt said he deleted his account. Screenshots of the Discord account show that the username was in Russian and the translation of the Russian letters spells out the name Lanza. Authorities thought this referred to Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old who committed the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012.
"Due to the inconsistent nature of the information received by the FBI, the allegation that Colt or Colin is the user behind the Discord account that made the threat cannot be substantiated," the report concludes. "This case will be exceptionally cleared."
"The threats were generic and not a specific location or time," a spokesperson for the FBI Atlanta division told Yahoo News on Thursday. "At this time, we don't have further information to share other than what was in our statement on our social media channels."

The reason South Korea and Japan feel safe is because they didn't spend their entire history making sure a significant portion of their population didn't have anything. Look no further than Mississippi for an example of this. Almost 40% black and poorest state in the Union.

Rich people don't have high crime rates. Poor people do, and that's consistent around the world no matter the demographics. The easiest way to lower crime rates is to lift up your poor. The countries with the lowest poverty rates also are the safest. Japan and Korea are unique in their poor are rural. Rural life is cheaper than city life so it is easier to manage. See rural America for that validation. You can buy a functional house in WV for 30k. People in their cities are doing well for themselves.

Nope.

Are there zero poor people on vermont?

LOL

West Virginia is one of the poorest states and yet its crime rate is well below average.

Mississippi is also poor and ranks 39th lowest in violent crime rates but has the highest homicide rate in the country.

Why is it that kids who grow up with AR style weapons in the house seem to want to get their hands on them? Is there maybe a link between immature parents who like to virtue signal and bad parenting?

Makes you wonder.
No it doesn't.

Dad taught me how to shoot an AR-15 when I was a kid. I could hit targets at 150-200 yards with iron sights.

Never once did I think about using it for anything but shooting at the gun range.

The problem is not the guns, or the type of guns.

He may have a point. My kids grew up around ARs. One is now a competitive shooter and holds NRA instructor certifications, the other has been known to shoot a 20mm Gatling gun out of an airplane.
Show.Off.

I would be proud too :-)

The 14-year-old suspect had shown interest in previous mass shootings, particularly the 2018 attack in Parkland, Florida, said two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation. Included in the tip were several photo attachments that showed a user profile name written in Russian which when translated spelled the name Lanza, referring to the Sandy Hook elementary school shooter.

When confronted about it, Colin Gray said he didn't know the email associated with the account and said his son doesn't know Russian

Well the United States is never going to be a homogeneous society. A messy and contentious heterogenous society built from immigration is literally one of the foundations of the country.

And I'm a bit skeptical about a strong correlation between marriage rates and the number of school shootings. Seems like a large number of these shooters have come from homes with two married parents. Now, happily married, who knows.
