Democrat elected officials in Georgia already blaming guns and calling for gun bans/confiscation.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Would just like to point out that these didn't happen 50 years ago when guns were not locked up, but the crazy people were.

You could have a rifle on the rack in your pickup in the school parking lot, but bad kids were suspended, sent to juvie, sent to a children's home, sent to reform school, made to enlist in the army, or in a mental institution.

Now the only ones getting locked up are the kids who accidentally bring hunting ammo to school in their car, and the bad kids are "accepted" and "celebrated.

Add social media and 24 hour news cycle, and here we are.

There's a lot more crazy people now. Locking them all up would bankrupt the country.

Gotta take advantage of this narrow window to scream for gun control before it comes out as a drug deal gone wrong or gang related beef and it gets memory holed

So, I'm sure your solution is to just ban guns then?

It's a losing position. It just is. It's one of those positions that may get the base riled up but in the end when it matter gun control in most parts of the country is a losing position.

No. I believe in the 2nd amendment. Not sure what a reasonable solution is.

Can't speak to the details here, but at my kids HS, there is always a police car parked out front. All the doors are locked. At the main entrances, there are two sets of doors.

Point being, harden the targets. Funny how there are so few inner city mass shootings like the ones we see in the suburbs.

As one would expect, we have about eleventy reporters on this. I somehow avoided getting shuffled there today, but I've already been told I'll be on it in the morning.

Be warned though, if he's a white shooter, the left will go crazy about him being alive only because he's white, even though many scenarios prove that wrong.

I'm so sick of these sickos doing this crap.

We have the same setup but both are glass windows, would only slow down someone with a gun trying to get in but I think that is the point. Plus cameras all over the place

Isn't that a shame. In my day you could walk in and out of any school. That said, I'm glad to hear it

Every school should have this posted in front of their building. A lot of these shooters do these things in so-called no gun zones for a reason. I'm sure the left wouldn't do it, but they should. Even if they don't have them there.

About 500,000 were hospitalized in 1955.

About 37,000 are today.

Population is over double 1955 levels, and we are institutionalizing less than 8% of the numbers we did when the population was half of today's.

You don't have to lock them all up, just start with the worst and work your way up. Been to Albuquerque lately? What they spend on homeless and security to protect normal people from homeless would easily pay to care for tens of thousands.

This is such an obvious answer. It amazes me that people either don't see it or don't want to admit it.

Good points. I didn't know those numbers. Thanks for sharing.

I imagine the number of really mentally ill people is in the millions. Having lived in LA and now Fort Lauderdale, they're everywhere. Talking to themselves. Many are violent.

Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, NYC, OKC, Kansas City, I've seen the same thing.

They are all over every downtown.

If he's white, the shooting will be blamed on racism. If he's black, it'll be placed on racism. Or Mexican.

It's really shocking to me. I grew up in Ft Worth and lived the first 38 years of my life in big cities all over the country. Now after being in the country for ten years I go back and it is crazy to see how many there are. It is much much worse than it was. I think there are a lot of reasons for that. One being when they were locked up they didn't breed.

the best solution is never on the surface. We need a country of mentally healthy people and a strong deterrence to violent people.

Unfortunately, we travel there often on business. The good news is that most hotels will provide security, and most places are relatively safe. Leave nothing in your car. Keep your head out of your butt, and avoid homeless.

In Santa Fe, stay north of town at someplace like Buffalo Thunder.

We've been going to ABQ for around 20 years. Have had scammers approach us in the hotel lot twice, one crazy person scream at me for ignoring them (on purpose) and one attempted car break in.

The latter turned out to be funny. It was a 17-year-old chevy pickup. They tried to punch the lock and turn it. Instead, it broke the plastic door handle, and the lock fell into the door. They couldn't open the door, we could still get in and out with the key fob and electric locks.

I would put that more at 95-98% mentally ill. There are very few that are circumstantial. Though I did actually meet one the other day that was 19 but that's a little different story.

Fentanyl is making the situation exponentially worse.

Who cares. It is a losing issue.

It's like Republicans pushing for a total abortion ban. It gets the hard right excited but in the end is a losing position electorally. So is election deniers for both sides. Losing positions electorally. Gun confiscation is a losing position. They can grandstand all they want.
