What's being billed as Skynyrd is not Skynyrd. ZZ Top still has 2/3 of the lineup including Billy Gibbons who is undoubtedly the biggest draw in the group. A group calling themselves Pantera without Dimebag is a joke and an insult to one of the greatest guitarists ever. All they have is Phil and the very replaceable bass player.
also known as Down on any other outing

I don't know, Phils vocal was like nothing else of the era and totally a part of their sound.

At least it's the right people filling in for the Abbot bros. Not some random young guys.

Funny how you, random guy on the internet, see it as a joke/insult to Dimebag, yet Zakk who was a personal close friend of him for many years doesn't think so.

Well Dime's brother made it clear for many years that there is no Pantera without Darrell so it's odd that you think a friend's opinion means more than a brother's.

I could not agree with you more. Its sad that in the case of Skynyrd, we are both very wrong. The original band played for 8 years before the plane crash. The current band has played for 36 years with the plane crash survivors, replacing members one at a time as they died off. When you carefully replace one guy at a time with the goal of not changing the sound, the band DNA can stay mostly intact. Add that to the fact that literal DNA (little brother Van Zant) is singing, and there is a chance that this version with decades of experience and a lot of sobriety is better than the early-70s version. Don't ask me no more questions, and I won't tell you no lies.

Unpucker the butthole a bit, no one is calling this a reunion. It's a tribute to carry on the legacy of The Abbotts and Pantera. They've all explained it as such.

I've heard it best as 'Just enjoy it, or don't, the choice is yours, but don't make that choice for someone else.'

So Vinnie wrote that from beyond the grave? Sure his heir(s) are OK with this because they are getting paid.

No offense, but you're kind of entering "kolache dork" territory. I'm going to see Pantera because I love their music and my mother never would have let 12 year old me go see them in the early 90's and it's better than seeing some knock off "tribute" band...I do wish it was the real/original Pantera though, I'll give you that. The venue will be filled with die hard fans who think along the same lines. I guess the few zealots who are boycotting bc they didn't change the name or whatever will stay home. Everyone wins.

I was lucky enough to see pantera in 97ish and 00. I still am excited to hell to see this lineup on a stage of this scale.

The naysayers can stay home and face the future regret for not seeing them!

I'm not staying home because of that. I don't want to pay the prices while having to deal with the Jerryworld mess. And I have nothing against tribute bands. They can be a lot of fun. My only point is that this is a tribute band and not Pantera.

That wasn't your only point.

But your other point got punted off the planet like Clark Kent with a practice football while he was cleaning up the field after school.

I saw Kenny Loggins last Thursday on his "This is It" final tour at Smart Financial Centre.

At 75, he can still hit most of the high notes -- and his songs have a lot of high notes. But he did struggle once or twice. You could tell each one was a game-time decision.

For the most part, though, he's still on top of his game. He's traded in the jazzier, multi-instrumental sound for a more rock-forward group, and they blazed away. The almost-sold-out crowd had a good time hearing his stories and reliving past hits.

I'm way more a fan of his album work than his monster soundtrack tunes, but of course he couldn't ignore those. And I was willing to hear "Footloose" one more time for the chance to be there.

I first saw Loggins in 1978 at the Summit, so it was bittersweet for me. We're both old.

I came to be a Skynyrd fan later in life. Seen 'em live about 5-6 times, all in the last 15 years or so. I loved their God & Guns album. As far as I'm concerned, the band fronted by Johnny Van Zant is the version of Skynyrd that I came to really love, and the martyred plane crash members are basically the songwriters. BTW, they were great at The Woodlands with ZZ Top about 8 days ago.

Now, as completely inconsistent as this may be, I would NOT carry on as Pantera without Dimebag & Vinnie.

Man, I have to say I seem to have a strong connection to bands I discovered when they were largely unknown and saw in a club. Then years later On the big stage I'm just rooting for them all the way.

Tonight that was ghost. Saw them at Boulder theater in 2013(?) with a few hundred people.
More Recently it was ball arena and tonight fiddlers green with oh I don't know 20k people.

Did something at a concert for the first time last night.
I initially purchased a reserved seat, cheapest price point so upper level and way off to the side.
I get to show, and there's a mostly empty row, except two fat goth girls with a seat in between them. Wouldn't you know it, it's my seat. They see me looking at seat numbers and ask if it's mine, I say yeh but that's fine I'll sit in one of these empty seats until some one comes.

Opener starts, someone comes to get my seat, so I begrudgingly sit in between them.

I hop on stubhub, vivid, etc. I find a seat dead center, front row (still upper level though) for sale, only $10!
Done, within 5 minutes, I had the new ticket, and moved. That seat ended up having empty seats around me as well, which was great.

Makes me want to consider just buying the lawn seat next time and keep an eye out for a cheap last second sale.
As I pulled it up and searched, I saw a center section lower level at $10 as well, but it had a strike through and said 'sold in the last 5 minutes'

Had I hopped on ticketmaster a tad earlier, I could have perused the empty seats on their chart, but when I checked, TM stopped sales for the show.
Stubhub and vivid don't show you seat numbers.

Also, holy hell Ghost has 9 members on stage!
Tons of backing vocals, presumably no longer backing tracks (certainly sounded live)

Funny part of the show;Towards the end, they blow confetti all over the stage and out to the crowd.
After that song, singer says "I want to stop for a second and talk about how important Jesus is"

You get this weird mixed reaction of laughter and boos (gotta know the band to understand I suppose)

Anyway, he continues, 'No I have to say I really need him right now, because all of this crap on the stage, it was suppose to land on you! Someone needs to clean this up!", and that moment a guy comes out with a leaf bower and starts blowing it all out to the crowd. Singer says "everyone, say hi to Jesus!" Then he shoos him off stage lol.

That's some funny **** right there.

I am going to try this based off of your experience. There has been more than one time that I have went to GA after seeing my reserved seat location. Seems like a last minute ticket upgrade might be a good idea.

Did Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra last night in Irving.

JEW was good as always, nothing specifically great about their performances but its been 30 years so they've refined the majority of this **** by now. It does always feel like to me that more than any other band that has had their longevity that having to play "that song" (The Middle) every time out has to grate on them.

Manchester Orchestra was great. Had seen them 10+ or so years ago after Mean Everything To Nothing came out and they were as tight as ever. Hull still leans wayyyyy to much into some of his rock idols like Morrissey acting like he doesn't really even want to be there ("We're Manchester Orchestra from Atlanta, Georgia and we have to say that"), but it doesn't detract from the sound. Not a fan of it being 100 degrees outside but we only get the last few lines of "I Can Feel A Hot One". And then my unrefined non-music-snob opinion... The Gold is an absolutely beautiful song. I know that there's certain songs that rely heavily on the studio, certain notes that it's just not possible for an artist to consistently hit on a live tour... So I wasn't expecting Hull to try and hit the high points in the song (and had already seen from tour videos that he doesn't). But what I don't like is the pivot to audience participation for those lines. I'm ok with an old crooner like REK letting the fans yell "I aint ever going back"... and a legacy act like Billy Joel allowing the entire ballpark to sing the chorus of Piano Man is always going to be epic. But audience participation should be reserved for those type songs -- I typically don't want to pay money to hear a bunch of drunk concert goers sing the lyrics.

Overall a great show though. I was not a fan of the double-headliner thing LiveNation started pushing a few years back but I've been to more than a handful now and it works. While it's a beating to drive out to Irving, TMF is still a really nice facility and they do a lot of the little stuff right like selling the pit to only 50% so it's an enjoyable experience.

We are going to see Foreigner Saturday at the Woodlands. This would be my third time to see them, but probably the first time in more than 10 years. Supposed to be their farewell tour, but who knows? KISS has had a couple, Crue has had at least one, Skynyrd had one and I could swear AC/DC had one, only to continue touring later. Cause I'm a dirty white boy...

I came across a video of Crue in like 1988.. he sounded like **** then. I'm thinking even in their prime, they were never that good live.. Too much booze and coke.

Funny to think about now, I'd be pissed if I paid $100 to see a band who didn't respect their fans, took it for granted and phoned in a booze fueled performance.

But most people aren't going to these shows to see these performers at peak performance or anywhere near it.

They are going to check bands and songs off a bucket list.

As I texted my buddy last year when he had to bail on the Motley/Def/Poison/JoanJett concert -- "Enjoy being on your deathbed and having to come to grips that you never heard Unskinny Bop live".

lol.. I had to look up to see if unskinny bop was Cru or Poison. I know the tune for sure, but couldn't decipher who was singing it.

Some friends talked me into seeing Poison, Ratt, Great White, and L.A. Guns back in '99. L.A. Guns had a tour bus breakdown and didn't make it, which was fine with me. I didn't know any of their stuff.

The rest of them were good. I don't care for Poison's songs, but they know how to put on a great show. They were complete pros and the stage show was big and flashy and a lot to take in. I would see them again if they were on a bill, but I'm not buying a ticket because they are playing.
