I recently came across Haken's album virus. Polyphia-esque (if I remember what they sound like.. proggy complicated stuff).. but kinda meshed with tool like grooves/riffts. Then add clean vocals.

We had to endure a few 3 Doors Down songs during halftime of the 2015 A&M/LSU game in Baton Rouge. They rolled out a temporary stage and the band came out. It was quite....random.

And then many times in Houston.. buzzfests, scout bar, a few others.

We met them all a few times, including Dave Krusen who was playing the 25th anny tour.

No pictures from 94 unfortunately. Didn't know my wife then, but she saw the same show in Kansas lol.

Saw Candlebox back in the day at a small club in Dallas. Place was packed with a ton of people outside trying to get in. During the show I spotted an underage Kenny Wayne Shepherd at the bar. For the encore he jammed Petty's "Here Comes My Girl" with Candlebox. That was awesome. Unfortunately after the show I went home while KWS jumped over to a blues bar and jammed with that band the rest of the night. Heard all about it the next day.

Release debut album summer 93.. by the next year you're opening for Rush early 94, then Metallica summer/fall 94, and playing main stage at woodstock.

Kind of a mirror of PJ just a few years prior. Too bad they couldn't have put out a second album with 3-4 hits on it.. it would have completely changed their trajectory and future.

Didn't hurt that they were the first major record released by Madonna's Maverick label.

They had a lot of buzz behind them for that fact alone.

Of course, none of that would have mattered if the album sucked.

I'd say it was 4 hit singles with big radio airplay/mtv that blew it up.. not the maverick name. Your average consumer had no idea who was behind Maverick. My young teenager self certainly didn't.

The success was quickly in the shadow of Jagged little pill!

My recollection is that is was a pretty big deal that Maverick was Madonna's label but I was managing a music store at the time so maybe the genral public wasn't as aware.

I have zero memory of the Maverick label or any discussion of it back in the day.

But it's been a long time. I don't think Madonna even used her fake British accent full time back then.

Candlebox hit it because the album kicks ass and they were able to hop on the bandwagon of their seattle peers, who were still putting out top notch releases and all over radio.. If any other major label picked them up, I'm bet it would be the same outcome.

yeh my little cousin introduced them to me (I searched the band name in my phone and found the text.. june of 2018) and said he went to a show for Chon, and they were the opener. That was the first I heard of them, and remember really liking the GOAT song. Haven't followed them though, but I've def. heard playing god too.

I also listened the album front to back probably 50 times back in those couple of years.. so my perception of them being on the radio might be skewed a bit. I've heard all those songs a lot.

Killers concert in Houston just got postponed...AGAIN! Apparently I'm not meant to see them live. Seems very last minute this time. What's usually the cause of these reschedulings? Ticket sales seemed really good.

Eric Johnson had to postpone three shows in Florida last week due to the Rona in the band and/or crew.

Maybe it's that.

I was at that game too. There are dozens of us, dozens!

We saw the Mavericks in Beaumont last month. They're coming to Moody in June and to HOB, I think, in September. They are a ton of fun.

Morgan Wade on 4/1 in Dallas. She came through DFW last year as part of Stapletons big tour but I didn't want to spend that much so working out getting to see her in much smaller venue for much cheaper now.

I wasn't able to get tickets to her Houston show on this run but the times before that I've seen her she has put on a good show.
