Thought they did a good job adapting it. Only thing I wish they would have done differently is recreating her actual experience with the game where it didn't work and Ellie used her imagination with Riley describing it. Shortened from the game, of course, but I found it to be such a cool, impactful moment in the game where you have these kids working with what little they have to imagine a normal life. I do hope that when they do the museum in season 2 or 3 or whenever they have it, that they don't skimp on her trip into space.

Last night served the story and plot incredibly well, imo. It provides the explanation as to why she stayed with Joel instead of leaving him for dead. I don't consider it a bottle episode at all. It was definitely slower, but when non gamers see the final two episodes I think they'll understand the show needed a slower episode here.

I have incredibly high expectations for the last two episodes. I hope they stick the landing.
THIS. And it was even stated as such in that 5 minute post episode recap.

I agree.

I am SHOCKED that the other thread hates the episode. SHOCKED I tell you.

Can't wait for episode 8!!!! Do y'all think episode 8 ends with Joel and Ellie escaping the cannibals or do they leave it on a cliffhanger and they escape at the beginning of episode 9?

Cause there's a lot to cover still to combine that while next segment into one episode…

Based on the shots in the preview, think it ends with them escaping. How much machete chopping will they show?

No clue or theory on the above two posts but I do know it must have taken me about 50 attempts at least in the burning restaurant you can see in the trailer to advance the first time I played it. It was so frustrating. I can't wait for that scene.

honestly the thing im curious about seeing the most for episode 8 is how they're going to kill troy baker's character....im going to assume he's playing the guy that gets killed right when Ellie escapes from about to be ing butchered on the table with David....so that would have Troy Baker, the voice of Joel from the game getting killed by the Bella Ramsay playing Ellie in the show.........that'd just be awesome!

Agreed. It wasn't horrible, just really underwhelming, especially compared to the first 6 episodes which have been outstanding.

I haven't played the game (I'm here because the other thread is an absolute train wreck), but most of the positive comments i've seen have just been some version of "Oh wow, that was EXACTLY like the Left Behind DLC!!". That's great, but the story is still boring, especially for people who haven't played the game.

This. I loved the DLC but it didn't translate as well into a live-action episode of a 9-ep series like Druckmann/Mazan probably hoped it would have. The second weakest episode of the season so far.

I like to think this was a very "heady" episode making you think vs. be entertained. You understand the driving force for Ellie caring for Joel. She's already lost someone she loves and she isn't going to let that happen again.

I still wish the series would have taking the next step and told us what the next morning looked like with Ellie and Riley. If you think back to when we met Ellie, she was chained to the radiator in the Firefly safehouse. I am guessing Ellie and Riley went back to the Fireflies (Marlene) and told them what happened. Ellie locked in one room, Riley in another. Riley turned...Ellie didn't...setting off the story of TLOU.

That's what I was hoping for. The idea that Ellie had strong feelings about her best friend and that their experience shaped present day Ellie could've been done in about 20 minutes given the showrunners' track record. I mean, we collectively cried for Sarah, Henry, Sam, Bill, and Frank in less than 40 minutes of screen time each.

Would've liked to see the immediate fallout of Ellie/Riley in the mall. Would've liked to see more about how Ellie/Joel got out of the university and to this safehouse. There is credit to be given for faithfully remaking game content, but they stuck too close to the script IMO. Especially knowing that they are more than capable of exploring non-game material. Some missed opportunities here.

I agree with this. While I enjoyed the episode I did think/hope that we were going to get to see how Ellie reacted to:

1. Having to kill Riley
2. Slowly learning how she's immune
3. Getting to see how she came into the Firefly's hands

Wouldv'e been really interesting to have gotten to see that....

Who knows....maybe they'll surprise us in the opening credits this Sunday....

Haven't watched yet but you totally refreshed my memory. I lied when I said it took me 50 times to get past that scene. I think it was more like a hundred. All the makings of a great game scene when you pull all your hair out and throw a controller at the screen.

My post probably belongs on the Nerdery. In fact now I'm intrigued to find an old thread on there about the first installment...

In the next episode preview…

That shot of the person from behind running through the woods.

That Ashley Johnson, or could it be Abby when she's running towards the hospital in TLOU2?

Holy sheeeit!! I came to post nearly the identical thing.

Don't mean this to sound negative in any way but I feel sorry for the watchers that haven't played the game. That was so badass.

That Ellie rage was something else as was Joel's. I think this was the second best episode imo but the single best at game to film adaptation. Blown away.

I had the same impression of your spoiler tag at first but there is a long way to go before we even get to that story so I don't think so. Then again, this show has been known to skip around a lot so who knows.

You are spot on. That is her. AJ (Ellie's mom in the story) you can clearly see her face and pregnant at 0:14 of the ep 9 trailer. She is wearing the same army jacket you see from behind in the woods.

Season 1 Ep 9 trailer

I also have a good idea on why Ellie is "immune" based on this trailer: As far as I can tell this is never really hashed out clearly (other than the recorder memos in the SLC hospital) - Check out the trailer and watch at .5 or .25 speed. Whil ein child birth, Ellie's mom is attacked by infected woman. Ellie's mom is bitten during child birth but before Ellie is born. So the fungus has been transferred to Ellie via the umbilical cord. Maybe the fungus can't survive without a viable host and a baby child doesn't have enough to allow for fungus to survive. So it "infected" her but not "INFECTED" We know from Part 2 recordings that Ellie has a version of the fungus already in her brain that is basically blocking the new bite from infection.

Also look at the room Ellie is born in....sure looks a LOT like the opening home screen from the game, no? That window and curtain on the right?

Also..also...based on background from trailer at 0:16...I think we might be getting giraffes!

Gamer observation deep cut. The mom of the daughter whose dad Joel killed from David's camp…is that the same mo-cap actress who played Mel in TLOU2???

Totally forgot that Nolan North (Nathan Drake) voiced David in the game. Did anyone see Nolan North in the series or did we just get the beach cameo of him in the Uncharted movie?

Nolan North as David was the best voice performance in the game, no disrespect to Baker/Johnson. He's really the GOAT.

Don't think he's in the show anywhere, even as an uncredited extra.

I thought the show did a great job at making David more terrifying than he was in the game. I thought the episode would lack due to the relatively short run time but I thought it was great, everything they did made sense. I'm sad that we've got one episode to go, this show has been so great.

Guess not being a fan of the game didn't help. I made it about two episodes and it felt like little more than yet another post apocalyptic zombie show with little behind it. If someone can tell me it gets a real set of plot lines other than "avoid the flesh eater" maybe I will give it another go.
