Maybe, but Yahya Abdul-Mateen is 33 and Revolutions was only 16 years ago. If Morpheus is dead, Niobe isn't around, and Neo and Trinity are computer/digital characters only, I guess the story could jump forward 30+ years, but that seems unlikely.

Everything about this movie is surreal. The fact that it didn't exist until suddenly it not only existed, but is shooting in just a couple of months, to Keanu and Moss coming back, to announcing basically an unknown for the lead, and now this. So weird, but also so exciting too.

He may have been an unknown till pretty recently, but that guy has one hell of an agent. From the earlier article:

True, but at the absolute earliest this hits summer 2021, but it's looking more like holiday 2021 or even summer 2022. Regardless, there's no way they'd have a teaser that far in advance.
